I remember when I first returned to Minecraft after the ocean update and I thought the Tridents were a mod

I think the main thing that makes people feel this way are these two things: 1. Newer updates care less about sticking perfectly to minecrafts rigid grid and unfluid animations, so things like leads, tridents, and bells feel modded because they are 3d moving things that completely ignore the grid for their movements, and creatures like the sniffer, gaurdians, and armadillo are covered in little animations that are very smooth, so it makes them feel out of place. (Ear wiggling, wobbling in idle animations, smooth curl ups, etc) 2. Difference in art and shading techniques from older to newer minecraft. If you look at a mob like the zombie or creeper, there is little to no shading, and the tiny amount there is is usually flatly shaded. Meanwhile newer mobs are covered in self shadow, small intentional details, sometimes almost even shading that looks like reflections (sniffer, piglins, and armadillo are goid examples), which when combined with the animations, makes everything feel out of place in the simple flat rigid world of old minecraft. Im not saying the new features are bad, or that the old features are bad, i just think they clash. If mojang wants to make the artstyle more cohesive, i recommend either changing the newer features to match more with the older features and artstyle, or just accepting that indev textures and animations were meant to be effectively placeholders, and they should redo all the old stuff to make it fit more with minecrafts more finalized artstyle. It would make alot of older fans upset (just as we saw with the ore design changes a few years back), but they will move on and learn to accept the way things look now. Im sure alot of people have probably forgotten that minecraft even changed the ore textures at all by now, and its because the new designs are more cohesive with the newer artstyle and genuinely improve readability at a distance even in a big open really dark cave. No one likes when things change, especially when it feels like they didnt need to, but ultimately everyone will come to realize that this game is not the same "game" that it was while it was in early development, things change, and the game would be way less fun and replayable for the majority audience if it got rid of all of these "out of style" features, that all genuinely improve the game in some way or another. As much as i rag on the newer mobs for being "mostly functionally useless", atleast they look good. If we got a useless mob that looked like crap, i would be more upset, because the game would be exactly the same if not a little better without them, but they dont look bad they look really good. The sniffer has an excellent design that fits minecrafts strangeness very well, i just wish it had some good functionality alongside it. I also kind of wish mojang wouldnt keep using the ender dragon as a standard for what minecraft mobs should look and feel like, but its not my game lol :)

In fact, those two were some of the only old vanilla things he thought were modded, the other being the lead (have poor memory so might be missing some things) but those three were pretty much it with the old stuff, every other vanilla thing he said was modded were the latest things.
