I Ruined My Mercedes With This Modification (Muffler Delete was a mistake)

I loved the tone from the aftermarket exhaust, but I wished it had less bass and no drone at all at highway speed. A muffler delete is always going to have something you don't want from the exhaust, especially on a daily. Unless it's something you want/like! Again didn't want anything really noticeable on this car because its the daily and I already have the CLK W209 loud! I hope you guys pick up something from this video!

If you want a good sound without being too loud you should put a short ram intake that may give you the sound you’re looking for

Thats a good point. There is little R&D for these cars on whats in the market for air intakes. You almost have to create your custom intake

I heard from other c230 owners that they are mini resonators. It didn’t have secondary cat materials in it. It has a carbon fiber material in it like what a resonator would have. It’s probably different on the c32 AMG is my guess

I Have a E klass 3.5 09 AMG what worked for Me was ECU Tune. Hood forced induction intake from rear intake of Hood. delete Resonator its very as well. Secondary Cats deleted Straight pipe replaced. Left Both AMG Muffers but Placed Two Custom Stainless Steel Bi Pass pipes 1 3/4 inch curved pointing downward. Really only go into effect Under heavier Load Givingvand impressive Tone. currently producing 340 HP only run High Octang.

As a huge Mercedes fan/supporter/long-time owner, I couldn't imagine wanting to change the muffler/exhaust on any mercedes. The Benz engines/exhaust just sound way too good/clean to want to change. That's what hondas are for haha

The mufflers were decent not the best from Mercedes during that time until the c63 came out, that’s when AMG started making good sounding mufflers!

Issue with not just Mercedes but most luxury cars unless we’re talking m series and amgs they all quiet the exhaust to the point you can’t hear the engine at all. My Lexus is a v8 and it was dead silent before i did the muffler delete, has like 4 cats ,2 res, and 2 mufflers stock.

​@256jayy3 I agree. I have a w211 E500 and W212 E550. Mercedes engineer the non-amg V8's to be extremely contained and zero exhaust. They do open up every now and then, but they're like a beast that's been silenced. I just had my W211 modified and it sounds fantastic!!! Trick is to find someone GOOD who can open them up with no drone. My 211 has a deep, rich, big V8 gurgle, but when rpm's level out its quite, quite when idling, and with the windows up the cabin is isolated and you hear the rear exhaust outside the car. Big, beautiful V8 sound whilst keeping g the Benz qualities. Dropped my w212 off the have the same guy do it.

Probably getting a W211 E500 next month. Probably doing something similar, keeping the stock mufflers, mid muffler delete + x pipe. MAYBE, we’ll see, maybe replacing the stock mufflers with some ’shittier’ ones. I’ve already got a really loud car, very bass heavy. And it’s just too much on the highway (5spd manual laying at 3-4k rpm at highway speeds)

I have a 05 C230 1.8l supercharger, I personally removed the stock muffler and had the shop install a Carven muffler with a new stock looking matte black tip and yes there is a good amount of drone but for being a 1.8l to me it was worth it and sounds amazing.

Just did a muffler delete on my wife's c230 yesterday while I was swapping the starter. Car sounds BEAUTIFUL! Wife and I both love it, so it's staying how it is. This guy is just a pussy

It's funny i've tried almost everything conceivable with my benz exhaust setup and i'm getting ready to try one more setup. But the muffler swap you did is probably the fault of that aftermarket muffler... I remember I put two small magnaflows on the back of my setup and it was actually louder and more droney than straight piping the car. It looks like you used vibrant ultra quiets... which typically don't quiet too much as mufflers they are more of a resonator. Have you tried using larger mufflers to swap? Like a magnaflow or flowfx oval size? Now that you have cut out the resonator and 2nd cats (they actually restrict flow a lot). It will be much louder.

I didn't try using any other mufflers. I didn't want to keep spending money for the sound I was going for on the car. Since it's just the daily! Those two were not cats. They were mini resonators. I mentioned it in the video. It was a straight-through. And cutting those three out didn't change the sound. Only gave it a nice revving sound and a little acceleration tone

Those things in the back even though they look like bottle resonators assist with heating the primary cats so benz and some other companies call them secondary cats. When I took them out on my 550 boy did it open stuff up even more than cutting off the resonator did, I actually put a couple bottle resonators back on there because it was flowing too fast.

The only way to get sound out of it is to change the muffler to a nice chambered muffler. Just getting rid of all the resonators will give you a nice sound when you rev it but when driving you would have to step on it in order for you to hear it. not much difference.

You can do a ECU tune and possibly a TCU tune as well! gain about 20HP gain and torque. Should wake up the car.

Hmm I might do this. I use mine as a daily. My expedition, when it was a daily at the time had a mishap with the exhaust (easy fix in a minute) and kept it loud. Drone was real. Fun at first but as a daily... Maybe not. Thought about straight piping the C230 but I also read online some saying to not do it as power could be lost with the supercharger and instead suggested to do a resonator delete as it's not as drastic as a straight pipe. Got the C230 Kompressor. Also it still sounds nice. Might do this and thinking of doing so stuff to make the supercharger louder, which I might do eventually. I want loud but not drone loud. Gotta find the balance lol Great Video!

@@marcusm9206 there are two engine mounts and a transmission mount. Usually after sometime they go bad from the high torque from the car. But the non AMG or 500 cars aren’t that quick so it take longer before they go out. But when they go bad that’s when you would have to change it. Maybe that’s what they were trying to do on yours.
