What struck me was, this has got to be the most straight-ass Rock band ever. This is a band that came onto the scene in the late 60s, but there's no Drug OD's, weird sex scandals, rampant alcohol consumption. I'm sure the band members have had more than their share of vices, but partying was never a focus with these guys. Just something that came to mind for some reason... It's a great doc, and I highly recommend it. Yeah, I wish there was more footage of just the band playing, but overall it's worth taking a look...

I wasn't all that impressed with the interviewer, I thought he was digging around a lot with the other bandmates to get them to say bad things about Fripp. I didn't learn a lot about their music which was my hope with this doc and I don't really care about all the drama which seems to be the point of the film. I heard the interviewer doesn't like King Crimson's music which is always a red flag. The interviewer should be well versed in the bands music before making this type of documentary, especially with a band like Crimson. I think it was a missed opportunity here to learn more about their songs and what went into making their albums. But maybe that would require a much longer video. I know Belew said Toby used the worst 4 minutes of his interview so it shows him as being negative. Tony Levin didn't give him an interview at all which was probably for the best. The one bright spot for me was the Bill Rieflin parts. It was very touching and at the same time difficult to watch.

I watched it last week. It was just ok for me (a KC fan since first hearing their catalog when I was a teen in the early ‘80s). Fripp was his usual eccentric/caustic self, the “current” members seemed terrified of him and the former members seemed either bemused or bewildered by their past experiences in the band (only Bruford was his usual aloof/cool self). The scant live performance footage did next to nothing to illustrate why the audience was so enamored. I think the filmmaker was given a near impossible task and did the best he could.

I thought the Zappa one was fun to watch, but it was way too limited in who they featured. Then again, they could probably make a 10-hour series about Frank and still not get through everything/everyone. I just watched the KC doc a second time last week and it's very good. Enjoyable and educational.
@TTM96912 жыл бұрын
@@MakeWeirdMusic Exactly. FOr someone like Frank, you need more than 2 hours. And in that documentary, as you say, very limited who was talked to. No complete songs. No guitar solo. They have lots of great footage of count-ins, and stage banter, and being introduced and walking onstage. At the end of the documentary, you don't have a single Zappa song stuck in your head, nor are you dying to hear any thing else. A total failure if you want to introduce someone to Zappa. They should have done it like the Dead documentary a few years ago, a five part documentary. When you have a band that does long songs like Zappa, or the Dead, that's the only way to do it.

There is a famous story Gurdjieff mentions, which may explain his mind/body statement. He uses a carriage to illustrate the point, which was all the rage back then. The carriage is the body. Some people only work on the body. The horse carrying the carriage is the emotional center. Some live there. The driver...the driver guides the horse, and many people identify with the driver. The thinker. The mind. But the person behind it all is the passenger, who tells the driver where he wants to go. Then, upon destination, she thanks the driver, horse and carriage for being in top condition to get her there safely. Safe passenging! Impressed that you know "Fracture". When playing drums, I always include bits from that song. Bruford has always been ear candy for the percussion tongue. I have a synchronicitous relationship with the band, swirling a scintillance of birthdays and deathdays involving January the 13th, King Crimson's birthday as well. I recently heard that progressive music was a child of Sgt. Pepper, through King Crimson. Can't wait to see the vid, and your other posts. Peace. PS: Every inch of my own music is weird.

I was very into fripp as a teenager. I saw him at the kitchen in New York and was introduced to him by a disc jockey that I came with. It wasn't through his influence but I also got into the gurdieff for a time and had some interaction with Elizabeth Bennett Fripp teachers wife and many others. And to put some friction into this whole comment section, which probably would be something that some might appreciate owing to the philosophy discussed here, I'm very glad that I got more into classical music and escaped The Rock and Prog bandwagon. From my perspective prog rock is not very different than rock. You have to look at the over arching philosophical, literary, and academic sides of it. Classical music allows you to escape all the nonsense accompanying Rock when you're in the classical orbit completely. These days, I really don't much like any King crimson post 1975. I find a band like magma to have put out much more important work after that date.

A doco would've had more than just the brief Tv clip w Greg Lake. Etc. But -- Not a doco!! A snapshot?....a serious of thoughts from many brilliant people?...a drifting love letter from a band leader who is FINALY happy in his band?....The most non-diverse audience shots since....the 1930s? I mean it could be termed any of a dozen other things. LOL -- Not that important but...also yeah it is, cos the thread thru the movie which deals with PHILOSOPHY....is fascinating and I'm so happy it went there. Bottom Line: Agree 100% that it was fantastic, brilliantly done, raw, super cool. I got the DVD after the screening, and I was part of the Q&A, as someone who has worked with more Crimson Alumni than...well anyone besides a long time crew member, or of course Robert & Tony. Not a lot of Robert Fripp??? I'm a huge KC fan (since the age of fourteen of course) but I'm feeling KC saturated. I'm glad I have good non Wilson ruined reissues of my favorites on vinyl, but damn it was hard to pull off. So much product and so much attitude makes me turn to the new "King" as in King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.

Yeah, I feel KC-saturated as well. They have done a good job with their marketing lol. Thanks Daniel

I didn’t care for it. It only touched on part of the huge legacy of KC.

Yeah… Playing Fracture while having a conversation as those strumming an open E chord? You’ve arrived.

skipping days of practice is the best thing you can do.every time you pick the guitar back up its easier to play what youve been trying to while practicing.

No offense, but I’ll take Roberts word for it haha

I have to agree. If I skip a day or two, I find that when I return, I can play, or almost play, what had been hard for me two or three days earlier. I think muscle memory needs time to buildup. This may not work for Mr. Fripp, we're all different; but his way has certainly gotten results!

Listening to you weigh your opinion about the meaning Bruford has to King Crimson is like telling my body to swim in a pool of feces to become a better athlete/person. It is your typical Gurdjieff-Crowley-Hubbard mindfuck gaslighting pseudo-social psyops trope. Shane on the flegeling hipster ingenue poser. This happens when someone without gravity improvises for padding reasons, the results are less than mediocre and enter the realm of bland interesting platitude_ coming from a so-called declared fan.

That's some good word-thinking, Marcos. I have no idea what you are trying to say, but congratulations for stringing it together.

@@MakeWeirdMusic It's good enough for me to get it off my chest. As it was through your agency that caused a grievance, also your disunderstanding of the issue does not make you look suave & cool, au contraire mes demon! At best by denigrating Bill's role in the band your showing the ineptitude of a neophyte and proclaiming steadfast honorary membership as a veritable prince 'careta' or as Gurdjieff himself would have coined you with the Kars nickname of "yab-shab'
@MakeWeirdMusic2 жыл бұрын
How did I denigrate Bruford? The only Bill I talked about was Bill Rieflin. Also it’s always fun when people claim they know what a dead person would be doing today and who they would like or dislike.

@@MakeWeirdMusic Anyone who suggests Mr.Bruford's contribution to King Crimson or what he expresses on that subject as being superfluously extrinsic or uninteresting should be sent to both Wittgenstein schools: Schule Ludwig would prepare you physically for Paul's Left Hand School. Maybe after processing that experience your peristaltic armature would become mature enough for re-evaluating Subud.

Complete rubbish documentary. Really? 15 minutes on a Nun who is a fan? WTF? 5 minutes devoted to random people dancing in the rain? Trailer absolutely misleading. Don't waste the money.
