The combat looks good, but, The Chinese Room has ZERO experience making RPGs, and, it definitely shows. The stupid trope of not showing what a dialogue option is actually going to say is SO stupid, and, over-used.

When playing as a character, internal monologue tends to fill in dialogue options. You, quite literally, don't need to voice the character actor (or in this case; double voice the character actor), people used to 'fill in the blanks' to fit their RPG needs... who decided that people were no longer able to think for themselves and we all needed to be guided to the 'correct' conclusions? It follows from lazy gameplay options; the 'copy & paste' level map design, 'pre-chosen' game character, 'generic' sidekick or the 'filler' fetch quest.

The combat looks good? Seriously, REALLY?? You expectation are so low. I per-purchased this title 4 years ago for $77.00. This definitely doesn't worth this price. Maybe what is paid heightens my expectation exponentially.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of this whole 'we should be grateful we're getting a game set in the VTM universe that isn't a visual novel' attitude I see on the BL2 discord and from KZbinrs. Paradox is not doing us a favour by making this game, paradox is doing it so they can line their pockets with money. They are a business, it is not because they care about the fans or the legacy of bloodlines, it is simply just a pay day for them. The spiritual successor to bloodlines is dead in the water, this is hot garbage.

@@neoravencroft Yeah, in that 30 minutes video you can briefly see menu system and they COMPLETELY removed any RPG systems besides "Ability Tree", Codex and "Outfits" (Source: pause at 3.17 in the video above). No disciplines, feats, perks or anything VTMB or just cRPG related. Also looks like theere will be no inventory! It's gonna suck even as a generic Action RPG with Vampires. A shame really. I feel betrayed as a VTMB and (old) Paradox fan. Really painfull to see your favourite GSG publisher from 2000s turning into a corporate mess like EA or Ubisoft.

I enjoyed your video. Thanks for making it! Did you notice the four-directional empty user interface stuff above the healthbar in the lower left corner of the demonstration footage? I'm wondering what that's going to be. My first thought is that it will be the directional controller buttons (since the devs seem focused on gamepad gameplay over keyboard/mouse), but what will go on them? My theory is that we'll have blood bags on one of those buttons (even though an elder's Blood Potency should be too high to use it) for healing, and other consumables or highly situational items automatically slotted to (and not modifiable from since there's no inventory in the in-game menu shown (during the newspaper parts)). Maybe they'll add weapons, but all of the footage only has barehanded physical combat, so I'm highly doubting the player will be able to wield guns or melee weapons. If they don't have that in a Bloodlines sequel, I'm going to be very disappointed...

Pretty much every voiced game gives the player a name or is known as a very specific set of nicknames. The lone wanderer, the courier, the sole survivor/(blue), the witcher/Geralt, the nerevar, hero of kvatch, the dragoneborn, V, Shepherd. I suppose in this game they could have used Sheriff. I think Phyre just seems so... cringe to a lot of people they really want something different. Perhaps a reminds a lot of people of their teenage selves, maybe. It comes across very... vam-pyre with a y. There's almost no way they'll change it, they've probably recorded too much dialogue with it.

Compared to the trailer we got last time, before the game was delayed, it actually looks great! I remember the characters in that one looked very uh... idk, bad? But they clearly worked hard to improve them and it shows. The story was interesting, combat looks smooth (and considering that Brujah is like a warrior class, it still felt like there were intricacies that could be interesting which you dont always get with the pure melee build in games so that's good!) I know a lot of people are going nuts about the character having a name and the voice in their head - did we travel back in time and get all the same people who hated Navi in ocarina of time or something? lol! But seriously, it doesnt bother me at all and people should really cool off! A companion character can add a lot to the feeling of the game. Some games feel empty, mindless. Maybe these others like those empty feeling games? But bloodlines is a character and plot heavy game, not just a sandbox. Characterization and personality is the bread and butter of this genre, so these choices are very appropriate. I think that Phyre is probably also chosen as a gender neutral name so that it can apply to either gender if we go with male. :)

The only interrupting voices inside my head should come from the fact that I'm Malkavian. OH RIGHT, there's only 4 clans, 50 shades of Phyre and if these mofos are Goth then I'm a fokken Queen of Sheba. Can these baboons even make a Malkavian dialogue that won't turn out to be an utter (what's that modern word? oh yeah -) cringe? Cause I'll bet you right now if you think this is ever gonna evolve into a satisfying Bloodlines sequel. I'm sorry, but all I see is red flags here.

1:01:58 They were referring to the code of conduct, vampires must adhere to, to keep their society mostly hidden from non vampires. Failing to do so, draws hunters, which causes lost assests. I don't blame The Chinese Room for this, but, I don't think they know how to justify the Bloodlines tag. Management, Ip holders, and investment tycoons, are responsible. Also, these writers need to back off on the whole, " character talks to themselves in full conversation mode" routine. That's my bit, and lemme tell you from real world experience, it gets hella annoying.

Positive thing: Saves you money! BTW, the power used in this video is Mental Maze. So it is both a vampire skill and it is in the books. However, it is malkavian power, not nosferatu. I don't know why they decided to play with malkavian powers when you have a Nos boss when Nos have some of the scariest powers (at least on flavour department).

Its unfortunate that ultimately Paradox is the author of this miasma of negativity that won't go away. Picking an inexperienced developer to resurrect a 14 year dormant game series, unleashing several extremely expensive pre-order tiers and over marketing a return of World of Darkness themed games with Bloodlines 2 as its crown jewel, crudely throwing off that dev when they couldn't meet an unrealistic deadline and then inflicting a year and a half long silence of their replacement has done nothing but dig a 1000 mile deep PR grave for Chinese Room to dig themselves out of. Which only seems to sinkhole deeper into the earth with each passing video, probably because much of these growing pains could have already transpired back maybe in 2022 instead of people just now decrying the protagonist's silly name who knows how closer we wander towards a still nebulous release date. Yes, I do think Chinese Room in its current incarnation still likely doesn't have the chops to deliver the exact flavor of Immersive Sim Bloodlines calls for; however, like Hardsuit Labs, I think they were put into a position they couldn't win, at least in a way everyone wants. I sympathize with them even if I don't agree with decisions they took for their version of the game. Because if this was just another VtM game without Bloodlines 2in the name, they wouldn't receive half of the hate they're getting. But then again, they wouldn't have as many eyes on them as they do because I didn't know Vampire the Masquerade: Justice Just released.

About coments part ... aka, the only part i could actualy hear. Yes, we obviously know there are games where you play as a pre-set characters ... but its also true that in most (i would say all, but if i would somebody would surely find some obscure game where its not true) RPGs, when you play some pre-set character, that character have some history ... and you often WANT to play as those characters. You used Geralt as an example ... that is character that is appealing, bcs you can play as that big hero you want. When you look as somebody entierly new ... its Elder Scrolls, its Dragon Age, its Mass Effect, its i dunno dozens and dozens other games ... you cant just come in with entirely new character and expect people to be exited about "becoming" someone they never heard about five minutes ago. :-/ I mean ... okey you can, and sometimes it can work (as it did for Cal Kestis in Star Wars) ... but there at very least it was part of the plan from very beginning. Problem of this game is that we had some promises, lots of promises, and character creator was big one, and people were very exited about it ... when you remove such thing, any protagonist no matter how awesome (and to be honest Phyre dont even seem so awesome) will suffer for just that, bcs all people see is that Chineese Room took away one of their toys. Its true its just design choice ... but it was still bad choice. :-/ As for Josh ... i also believe (as the autor of that coment) that nobody from the Devs played the first game ... And to be perfectly honest ... since he (as you said) isnt developer ... and since he was hired after the game (allegedly) was allready done ... I dont really see how is his presence relevant to the coment. :-/ You say its "simmilar" to Bloodlines ... simmilar how? A little later you mentioned that Bloodlines 1 was very focused on allowing people to make full Stealth playtrough ... And i agree with that statement. Except i dont see it as positively. :-/ One of my problems with Bloodlines 1 was that there was several missions (some of them were even main missions) that were only solvable in one way ... either only stealth (museum, imalia quest, elisabeth dane, etc.) or only combat (mostly sewer labyrith, but basicaly whole ending was made this way) but there was litterally no use for Social character in those segments ... One of things that was promised by HSL was that except bosses (wich is understandable) whole game will allways offer direct aproach (aka combat), stealth aproach, social aproach (wich branch futher to persuation, intimidation, seduction, bribing, etc.) and some random stuff you can do just for fun of it ... While in this version, all Chineese Room is talking about is action, combat, action, combat, action, combat ... it makes me worried. :-/ Agreed ... Chineese Room inherit the peoject, bcs they (reportedly) directly asked for it ... People allready expected something, i dunno whos bright idea was to throw it all away and rework everthing, but it was simply bad call. :-/

O_o Ofc. people are mad now ... bcs they were allready excepting things ... things like character creator, weapons, voice of Brian Mitsoda, Malkavians, blood resonance, etc. It feels a bit like some really weird kind of revenge ... as if Chineese Room didnt actualy wanted to make this game, but they were forced to, so they deliberately decided to make it bad. O_o Otherwise, i simply cant understand it.

@@pearyoshi Oh yes, they certainly did ... Scraped everything but models (even music as it seems, wich is shame, Rick's new intro was awesome) ... and recycled as much as they could ... What makes me angry is that they very often are talking about those asets as "we made", "we created", "we thought" and so on. :-/ Telekinesis isnt any cool power they invented to represent how is our Elder strong ... its recycled Mentalism that was implemented. Tolly (the nosferatu with hump), with wich one of dudes on re-introduction this game were braging about is not his creation ... its just reused model of Samuel. And so on and so on ... I mean, we know those things, we allready seen them ... there is no reason to not admit that they simply reused what they got. :-/

@@pearyoshi Yes it is. Or do you mean that there is no character creator in Fallout 1 & 2 or Baldur's Gate 1 & 2? You can choose a clan (like you can choose a class in d&d) and you can attribute a few points in your character sheet wich will greatly impact how you play the game for the first hours depending on wich skills you chose to boost at the beginning. You can say that it's bare bone, you can say that they should have give the player more options, but there is definitly a character creator at the beginning of the game.

I don’t like how limited the dialogue options are I understand how it’s an early trailer but where in the first bloodlines you had to go through a conversation the fact it appears theirs only 3 options in each part of the conversation makes it appear very limited. Truthfully we don’t really know a lot of what the game is gonna be like since this is pretty much the first in game video we have seen I hope the next trailer that we get isn’t a quest, but just how Seattle looks and how you interact with it, and the ability to explore it, that we will be able to see and the atmosphere of it has. I think it’s too early to get a good impression because we just don’t know enough or have even seen enough yet. But they need to take the time they need to make it really all come together the franchise cannot have this game bomb if we want them to progress and have more games like the original bloodlines.

I for one are looking forward to the game like a lot of people I'm disappointed that they went with a named character how I did like what I had seen from the game footage here's hoping for good character customization.

Contrary to what you said about the developers making up the Discipline that Wilem uses, it does bear some resemblance the fourth level of Melpominee from older editions of VtM. Although, it would be kind of odd for a Nosferatu to posses the powers of a rare bloodline like the Daughters of Cacophony.

the game is pre alpha hopfuly it gets better as there is still time before fall for a release announchment this year but i will say this one complant the last clan that seems to focus on stealth is not nosferatu so why put willim in the that clan trailer?

They already said it's post alpha, not pre alpha, which means the game is completed and they're only improving what they have. They put Willem in that trailer, because of the dialogues about Cairo and Phyre being called the Slayer. About Melpominee, a vampire only needs a master to learn a Discipline from another Clan, and even though I don't think it's that one, despite the rarity, it could be possible and plausible Willem could learn that. Phyre mentions Willem knows how to use the mark against her, so, that scream may be related to the mark only. They're, of course, not going to show all the Clans and bloodlines on the game, so, if they wanted, they could include bits and references here and there, VTMB had a sword that was from the Tal'mahe'Ra Sect. VTMR tried, they had all the Clans minus Ravnos.

One thing that upsets me in vampire games, is when they fight like humans. I miss the fighting style in Blood Omen, where you use your claws. In other games I've seen them use guns, and here with fists. I have to ask, what's the point of being a none human Vampire when you are stuck with human limitations.

In VTM, each Clan, which are formed by bloodlines, they all have different characteristics, so, some can use claws, others turn into mist, shapeshift to wolves, make magic, etc. They're not all the same, although, in the version of Paradox, they removed some things like Dementation, which it could play with the sanity of others.

depends on their clan AND how close up they are in the bloodline, meaning vampires close to the founders generations are stronger, each new vampire made is weaker than their sire, after almost a dozen generations they become thinbloods and outcasts, this is the lore in vtm, so when you play the pnp your party is usually of a lower rank later generation and might be of a non phyisically gifted clan and you also might had been weak in life, so while being used by older vampires you might face other older vampires, thats when you bring up some dragonbreath 12 gauge into their face because they are stronger than you will ever be, unless you diablirize an older vampires and become hunted because you will smell of diablerie to every vampire.

Yes, they take a cut of profits, but you don't get any profits unless you are selling the game. Crowdsourcing and external publishers are explicitly banned in the Unbound agreement. There is no way I'm going to make a whole game without pay. I need at least something to cover my rent while I work on it. That's why I decided to make my own original IP first. I'll likely only circle back if Paradox agrees to a publishing deal with Sea of Time. The Unbound model will not work for that project.

Forget to say, you mean Mage: The Ascension. Awakening is for Chronicles of Darkness, which is not the same setting. Don't know about Awakening, but, making a video game that makes justice to Ascension is probably impossible.

Given the troubled development process, I feel people are being a little rough on the game. I get wanting it to be the best it can be, but it can't be easy "finishing someone else's homework" so to say. Especially when we don't know how much had to be changed because of the feedback given when hardsuit was having a rough go of it. I remember seeing a lot of upset at playing a thinblood, as well as pretty much everything else that hardsuit had showcased at the time. Now people are mad a thinblood has been hamfisted into an elder plot and now ** I wonder how much of that shift in story the community may actually be responsible for. ** Yall hated EVERYTHING about the game hardsuit showed off in 2019, and ya wonder why it all got scrapped and replaced to be the OPPOSITE of what it was going for. Also: "Why are we getting cyberpunk in bloodlines" Idk all it took was a cartoon commercial (edgerunners) for everyone to forget Cyberpunk was shitty soooo i can see why paradox thought copying them was viable.

I think that every Vampire fans would really love to be able to only say good things about Bloodlines 2, except it's really hard to. For instance, in their presentation, they describe Brujah as people who sometimes lose their temper... that's like describing everybody on planet Earth. To me, the game looks very cheap, almost like an indie game. I've played Like a Dragon not that long ago, so maybe I'm spoiled on that end, because in my opinion, Ryu ga Gotoku studio really nailed it, making you feel like everything is real and like you are living the game itself. It's so beautiful and with incredible acting and motion capture. Here though, the character design don't help me get into the game at all, it's way too cheap for today's standards. Whatever they are trying to do, they wasted so much money on failures, and they don't seem to want to fully commit on Bloodlines 2 to make it the great game it's supposed to be. About your videos, I really enjoy your input, but about the saying nice things part, I think being fair and just, acknowledging both what's good and bad on the same flow is more interesting. (like a mix of this video and your last). Thank you for your great vids!
