Her first bit hit was released in June 1999 so she was actually 18 years old since she was born in August 1980 (she doesn't turn 19 until two months after the release). The recording of the big hit was done in 1998-1999, so that could of been when she was 17 or 18 depending at what point in the year she recorded, prior to Aug 1989 or after. So thanks for pointing out my error, but next time make sure your correction is actually accurate. She was 18 years old when it was released!

I'll never forget this story... Christina was in high school but had to be tutored while doing these early songs. A friend found her a date for the prom & she decided to go to try & have a normal high school experience again. Everything went great until the DJ put on "Genie". Everyone went to their seats. Her peers rejected her & she was so hurt. 😢 She went on to become the mega pop star we all love but she has often talked about that. Teens can be so mean & jealous.

I think this is the best her voice ever sounded. These types of songs are hard to make sound good. Anyone with a good voice and deep longs can do that powerful stuff that so many people love, that was on American Idol all the time. But not many people can do a song like this and make it sound good. But sure, if you are into the the deep lung songs then she will blow you away at that too. I just think these types of songs are even harder technically.

I personally enjoy singers who don't go all out 100% of the time in their music. This is smooth as hell. We know Christina can sing and do runs like crazy but it gets tiring if that's the only thing a singer does in every song (unless it's genre specific which is different) but then again it's the reason i don't enjoy hardcore rock

This is her debut single and isn’t a great representation of her music as she was kinda pushed down the whole cheesy pop route which she dropped after her first album, her later albums are completely different so I’m excited to see you react to more, she explores a lot of different genres. My personal recommendations are Fighter, Aint No Other Man, Candyman, Beautiful, The Voice Within, Hurt (shows off her voice amazingly) and Dirrty 😏 This song also doesn’t show off her vocal abilities at all, she was holding back on this song lol
