Elvis performs what MANY CONSIDER to be the VERY FIRST music video. It was part of his movie so the movie crew shot it. JAILHOUSE ROCK was a GAME CHANGER just as much as HOUND DOG was. Elvis laid the groundwork for BLACK ARTISTS TO BE PAID. Elvis was the first major white artist to hire a VERY diverse band black artists. "The SWEET INSPIRATIONS" would be paid very well, and more importantly treated royally. Without Elvis paying his dues, Little Richard, James Brown, Michael Jackson and many other legends woulds not have made it that far, if at all. Elvis and the legends - many of them black, describe R&R as a music of YOUNG PEOPLE. It wasn't a "race music". It was YOUNG PEOPLE MUSIC. There was a youth revolution going on in the 1950, a counter culture, and Elvis and many of the black legends of music were creating sounds by fusing all the music genres and changing up the tempo and adding a sexual message to the music. Noone better than EP at this. He absolutely dominated and he brought everyone along with him, changing the business model for black artists and enriched many of the fans around him who were poor. He died almost penniless but his generosity is just as legendary as his music. He actually choreographed his own moves in the movie "Jailhouse Rock" which was a great movie where he plays a bad boy. He made 31 movies and most had sound track albums. Another great dance number in "Mean Woman Blues" from the movie "Loving You". Nobody saw anything like him in the 50's I was a kid then. He was actually earth shadowing to me. Elvis was not 'one ' of the greatest, he WAS the greatest of all time...Elvis was voted #1 Entertainer of The Last Century...Coming in at #2 was Frank Sinatra, and everyone else follows...Think about all the entertainer from 1899-1999, Elvis beat them all...And if ever there was a 'rag to riches ' life story, Elvis was an epitome of it.. A thousand years from now, if western civilization still exist, Elvis will STILL be talked about..

This was a scene from Elvis's 1957 movie 'Jailhouse Rock' so if it looks like a set it was because his character was performing on a TV show as part of the plot. Taken in isolation it looks like a music video but they didn't really start until the 1980s.

I grew up with Elvis as my star in the 50's and he always will be, Jailhouse Rock to me was the solidification of all Rock and Roll Period! The Zenith was hit until the revival of aiming to be the best came through the Beatles, it was Jailhouse Rock that spawned Mac the Knife by Bobby Darin too!

Elvis is the greatest of all time, would you react to Elvis singing Just Pretend in Vegas 1970 and If I Can Dream in the,68 comeback special a tribute to MLK and RFk who were both assassinated the same year, this was written just for Elvis to spread the message , I believe that this song is more relevant today and should be shown around the world on tv commercials and radio channels, to share the love and understanding that Elvis grew up with , react to the White suit in this song ,If I Can Dream, I promise you will be shocked.
