YOU MISSED SOMETHING BIG. When the frogger, and father were fighting, the father told him that he would get in trouble for killing a cop because he didn't know who the kid was yet. He was standing in the dark. Then the kid moved into the light, and the Dad recognized him, and he knew that the kid would get away with killing him since he was the murderer. That's when he changed his tactic, and starts explaining about why he did this, hoping for sympathy. Obviously, it didn't work. That's why when the other cop comes in, and the kid calls him by name, the cop looks at him, and instantly knows who he is.

@@sv1nt0 a mixture of trauma and the power dynamic of his abuser. It's tragic, but a very real circumstance. Even if he were capable of speaking, there is a great chance that Greg could use his power in the police force to immediately silence him. If you look closely in the scene, Greg isn't even slightly nervous. He looks weirdly calm, even not considering the context. This is probably (assuming the screenwriters and actors thought this well into it and it wasn't just a convenient coincidence) because he knows that Tommy is completely voiceless in the matter, and it makes Greg feel powerful.

Meanwhile Alec himself is also no angel so even during the slow burn reveal we’re still thinking that he’s going to be the villain. I don’t know, to me, this is one of the best twists I’ve seen in a long time.
@Goldenkitten13 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't know what Flix problem with it was. It's like his only complaint is that the first part doesn't serve a purpose to the larger story but it totally does, making it so everyone (or anything) could be doing this only to reveal it was none of them. I don't know, it just seems like for someone who reviews horror movies for a living he seems to have a really hard time understanding what a red herring is. He sounds disappointed that it wasn't supernatural and was instead a home invasion and I would understand if that just wasn't his thing but he's covered plenty of movies where things turned out not to be supernatural and didn't give them shit. It's just a really weird vibe in this review.

The family don't ask enough questions when things start happening. A girl let the tradesman in? Who locked dad in the wardrobe? Where are the missing photos? Anyone would not rest until they got an answer to it but they just get swept aside. Those things added intrigue but didn't need to happen for the same plot and ending to unfold.

Man, you and I had completely different takes on this movie. I loved it, and wasn't bothered by the lack of a supernatural element. The purpose of the first half and all those misdirects is, to me, to wrap the viewer in the chaos and confusion as much as the characters. Essentially the phroggers (mainly Alec) are gaslighting them, and that carries over to the audience as well. So when we start learning what's actually going on, we're disarmed a bit, but also put even further on our guard because of how close they were this whole time. Couple that with slowly learning that Alec is unhinged, meaning not only the family but possibly Mindy as well, are in danger, and you get a unique kind of building suspense that I really appreciate. I agree that the metal cable reveal doesn't work, but that was my one major gripe with the movie.

Going out on a limb here, when the father gets pissed on and doesn't seem all too shocked the next morning it can safely be assumed that he has pissed himself before. It was long believed that serial killers are notoriously known for being bed wetters.Regardless of the statistical reliability of this characteristic of serial killers it has been noted as an observable pattern amongst some serial killers. If this is the case in the film, which i think it is, it's a great nod to serial killer theory.

I really loved the change of perspective within this movie. It was a change of pace from all of the mediocre supernatural films I had seen, and it became a shared category of corrupt human nature. It reminds me of a lecture I had attended about "The Dangers of a Single Story". Most of the time we only ever hear one-sided depictions - or rather one story - as a whole, when there are so many more out there that have the ability to contrast and build upon previous concepts. I respect the effort within this film to broaden the perceptions of a single-family and their troubles into a much bigger picture.

It's in the scene where he asks her if they would have even married if she hadn't been pregnant.

Even if they didn’t explain how her father bought the house, it’s still reasonable to believe she bought the house because of her job as a doctor/therapist.

I liked this movie. I'm kinda glad it wasn't spooky ghost doing spooky ghost things, they're a million of those movies already. Quite a few nice twists to it and worth watching when you don't know what's going to happen.
