One year I raised meat chickens in deep bedding in a space smaller than that brooder room. If that's at least 60sq feet total you could do that over winter when the tractor might be too cold.

By my calculations we could do 50-ish birds in here over winter if we needed. That's good to know if we decide to do that! The mess after the fact though....

@@GWPHomestead garden gold!!! The good thing about these guys is they don't live long so it actually doesn't stack up too much.

Please keep a very close eye on your layer chicks. I've raised poultry all my life. (Lots of experience but definitely NOT an expert!!!! 🙄) I have not been very happy whenever I've tried to raise meat birds & layers together. The layers seem to suffer. BUT in all fairness I had straight run on the cornish/cross. Having only pullets might make a huge difference! Praying the very best for your birds!!

That is great advice, thank you for sharing. We are keeping a close eye on them and so far they are doing well together. Multiple sources of food, water, and heat. If we notice they aren’t doing well we have plenty of space to expand. I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences with us!

@@GWPHomestead No! I thank you! I really hesitated to leave a comment, I didnt want to offend anyone or have others think I'm some sort of 'know-it-all'. (I'm certainly NOT!! The more I learn, the more I realize how little I really know!) I just wish I'd known BEFORE I tried that, it was going to have some not so great results!! 😔 Praying your experience is much better!!!

Glad to hear the chicks are doing well and glad they are getting along with the layer chicks so far! Looking forward to continuing to see the growth of the chicks! Btw, liked the setup using the panels!
