(like a cypher when they are rapping while staring at the camera) When you are recalling memories / thoughts it requires less focus vs creating something from scratch. Having said that, I have no doubt all rappers (the good ones anyhow) freestyle to themselves all the time and quite likely write things down when they think of something clever. (or come across a rhyme scheme they can carry for multiple bars) So I am sure there is some recall in the verses (on purpose or otherwise) but I would wager the majority is off the top.

Thisnis what Em mostly does. Plus everyone usually makes it clear when it's fully off the dome, because that takes a whole other skill. Which he is a master in too, but I'm still not convinced this is fully off the dome lol.

It is written. It would be impossible to come up with all these densly packed perfect multisyllabic rhymes on the spot while also telling a perfectly coherent story at the same time. I don't think you have enough appreciation of how hard it is to even write like this let alone to come up with it on the spot (which is impossible). If you wanna see Em actually freestyling off the top you can check out that freestyle he did with Proof in the car. You can see he actually has to think of things to say there and occasionally rhymes singular words together, such as: - proof/roof - house/mouse - four/door - single/mingle/bingo - said/dead etc. Contrarily in this freestyle it's just a constant barrage of multisyllabic rhymes, often even multiple within the same sentence: - (pushed to treachery)/(puss to fetch me)/(mush, I'm edgy)/(Bush a wedgie)/(could get messy)/(squish the left cheek)/(smushed against me)/(woods. The MC) - (blastin off)/(jackin off)/(acid washed)/(Asher Roth)/(crash the car)/(smash em off)/(-pass, went off)/(traffic. Caused)/(scratch at all)/(axe and saw)/(mask is off)/(-basco sauce)/(pass it on)/(acid dog)/(ass ticked off)/(basketball)/(crack withdrawal) etc. And that's only the first beat, the second one is even crazier, as you said. It's written. Very well written.

It´s a wicked freestyle, personally I like the other one even more with Royce and Porter. The flow is smoother and schemes crazy. Shorter parts sadly. But within the shorter time limits he goes off! What I like about this here is that you see clearly (I don´t know who said it) that he´s fixated on something because wherever his eyes are locked he visualize words there and puts them together forming sentences, entendres and bars as he goes. I am not hating on other rappers but I would be willing to bet that most "mainstream" rappers could not do this for more than a couple of minutes and those minutes would consist of pauses and deer in the headlight faces. Granted, not every line of EM's was amazing but I don't think a lot of people realize how difficult it is to truly freestyle. At the same time, EM has never been afraid to do different things / make himself vulnerable to the wider audience. I couldn't imagine many other artists willing to put themselves out there for people to just roast. Last point, a lot of artists use GW's to at least complete a track so a freestyle would never happen if they can't even create a track on their own. EM really is a gem to the hip hop genre and the world in general. With all of that being said, I agree with you 100%.

As far as freestyles go, there's not many that can be so witty and quick that they can make you rewind because of how crazy a bar was. Wayne, Reggie, and Juice come to mind but there aren't many that can compare to this level of freestyle lyricism. Maybe Royce too.

We need to clarify the definition of freestyle cos not even eminem would claim this was off the top. As far as writing, wordplay, cadence, delivery etc this is crazy. But off the top Harry easily the best there's ever been.
