reminds me back in 2005 when my class hiked the not so tourist part of the great wall and i had to climb these parts of stairs and i was already exhausted it was crazy definitely a once in a lifetime experience. next time i would like to hike the more tourist area because they are more maintained and easier for the average person to climb

I am not opposing camping or making the some sections of the great wall for outdoor activities such as hiking. But protecting this historical site should be prioritized and I hope the authority and the local community can manage the the reactional use of the Great Wall better.

The wall is MASSIVE, upkeeping the whole thing would be hundreds of billions of dollars per year. I am a complete history buff, more than most and I'm all about preservation of our history, but there is just nothing like this in the world and it doesn't make sense to put that much money repairing all of it. They can use that money for other sites that are neglected in the less-traveled areas and trying to help change the tourism image of China.
