What made me wait more than 2 decades to finally decide what I would do on my African safari? A recurring illusion. The first answer to the constant question of what is the trip you have always dreamed of.
Well, insecurity about with whom and how to do it. It terrified me to make that effort and travel with an inexperienced, insensitive, one of those bad tourism trips to the destination. Then Arturo Bullard appeared, a Peruvian photographer and traveler, brother of my daughter Arianna, who had been traveling through Botswana for several years, a small African country that has become the sanctuary with the most elephants in the world.
So I put together my trip and went alone. The best decision. Walking on my own, although at first it terrified me, because I had never done it, such a long trip back and on top of that with the responsibility of having to document everything by myself for my KZbin channel.
They were 10 splendid days that turned my existence upside down. Camping in the middle of the African savannah, listening to the roar of lions in my tent, where I was alone. Dawn every day before the sun, with temperatures between 3 and 5 degrees, happy because what awaited me was to go out and see animals in the wild. Share in their home. Elephants, lions, giraffes and zebras that I had only seen in zoos and suddenly they were there, grazing free, mating, getting covered in mud or opening their mouths as only hippos can do.
Recording with my phone everything that passed through my retinas. My soul in eternal revolt. My heart was jumping. Holding back the screams because you can't be upsetting the animals. Sharing with a group of 12 Peruvians who became my family, my African guide Nkosis who let me be his co-pilot during the 10 days. My new best friend Arturo, who supported me with my close-ups and reverse shots, as well as telling me everything he knew about African animals.
I learned to rest like a lion. To walk slowly like elephants. To stretch the neck like giraffes. To spend hours in the water like hippos. To be as free as each of these animals in their African savannah, their forever home, where humans are only temporary guests. In this chapter I share with you my emotions. Don't expect an African National Geographic. Nooooo. I'm a youtuber grandma who raved about her first African safari and shares it with you. From the soul.
