I really liked that the ending wasn't just him dying, but somewhat getting his life back together. I mean, throughout the manga, his life keeps getting worse and worse, but the fact that he's represented as a bird shows that he could be any one of us, even the other characters that appear in the manga. What I think is, we focus our attention so much on him (him who also represents ourselves) that we forget that almost everybody is facing the same challenges, carrying their own traumas and regrets on their backs. The manga artist, the old man, the friend he talked with in the restaurants, and all the others, they definitely faced their own struggles, but in the end, they were there for punpun as we see in the last image of punpun. The dude who ran away without saying them goodbye, the one whothey barely knew because he was so closed off, a guy so broken that he wouldn't even leave his house, only thought about sexual acts and tweaked out on the streets at night, the man who resorted to lying to others about himself to get some action, I would even say that Aiko would still be alive if it weren't for him pursuing her relentlessly while knowing it was a doomed relationship from the start, but of course he wasn't the only one at fault for how both of their lives turned out. He might be flawed, he might still be facing other problems, but I think he changed after the ending. Him standing there, near his true family and friends... Surely, he's still all fucked up in the head... But surely, one day, he will be the kind soul who will be there for someone who needs as much help as he once needed.

Well, that was long lol, but I think that's my final impression about this manga, really liked it even though it covers mostly dark topics

@@bigsmilemate thank you for writing a in depth comment smile mate. I also do think PunPun can be a reflection of us, not because of his literal actions but as he’s just like all of us.

I think punpun final form of bird doesn't imply he has changed , even in childhood, he always shut his emotions in his bird form , the same has happened again , he now looks happy from outside, but we as readers can defo say he is not ,

I think Aiko killed herself because of Punpun specifically. There's that seen on the beach before Punpun is about to kill her where we see Punpun return to his bird form when they are playing together and that is when we see Aiko at her genuine happiest. She realizes that the Punpun she loved was not him anymore. A monster has taken his place, and she blames herself for the transformation. She likely thought that if not for her troubling life and the murder of her mother, then surely Punpun would be able to be the good person she initially fell in love with. It's why I also think she lied when she said she was the one to kill her mother, and that Punpun really did end her. Removing that guilt from Punpun may have helped bring him back, but Punpun was still attached to her. Her final gesture of freeing Punpun from the monster he became was to force him to let go of her. It was an act of love and guilt to her, but Punpun was under such stress and paranoia that in his psychosis he didn't even acknowledge that Aiko was dead, he had staked everything on her. Only when her body was gone did he start to slowly come down and return to who he was meant to be
