Many people in the UK are fairly snobbish about CeX, but all my local stores have friendly staff and have always helped when buying, or returning any problem online orders. Like any used product, it can be a bit of a gamble when buying online, but in the stores you can ask to see discs etc. I've even bought systems at CeX in the past. I traded my black DS lite for a mint condition original white 3DS (back when the system was still active, don't think the slimmer models had released yet) and was able to replace my dead PS3 with a 160GB slim at the start of 2018 (still running now in Aug 2023). All items include a 2yr warranty too, so for their electronics especially that's a nice guarantee on used systems. My only issue with CeX is their policy of using printed covers, for lost or damaged cases. Fair enough, but it should also be discounted (it's priced the same) and they're occasionally sent by mistake in online orders (their own policy says they should be sold instore only). Personally I think they should be stored separately or at the desk, and at a heavy discount considering they are essentially incomplete disc/cartridge only. Because you can bet that if you tried trading just the disc only to them, there's no way they'd offer the full value. But then print a cover and sell at full price? Bit of a piss take.

I’m 34 now with a daughter and wife, so I really can’t do that stuff anymore or go on some big collection for games, since we don’t have good paying jobs and our focus is naturally our daughter. That was me during my own trip to Europe. Visiting a CEX in London, a bunch of smaller game stores all clustered on the same street in Paris, and attempting to find more game stores in Brussels and Amsterdam (found one in Amsterdam, but had no luck in Brussels). I was definitely a bit more strapped for cash, and sadly the convertion rate of Euros to Brasilian Reais is terrible, so I couldn't quite buy that many games, but... I still managed to get myself a copy of Sonic Origins Plus and a japanese FFX-X2 for the Switch, plus a cheap Banjo-Kazooie amiibo! Plus during the 6 month stay I had in Tel Aviv, Israel, there was an OFICIAL NINTENDO STORE at a mall 20 minutes from where I was. Tears of the Kingdom release day was a dream come true.

I feel you very much in the start of the video, i'm from Norway and if you want retro video games here you don't really have any other option other than buying stuff online. There is maybe like 1 or 2 physical game stores in the entire country which are all grossly overprices. So the only other options you have are trying to look at thrift stores which almost never carry any games, and if they do, its almost only fifa games for ps2 or ps3. From visiting my local thrift stores for almost 2 years the only game i've actually gotten there was Burnout 3 on Xbox. Physically game hunting just isn't something you can do over here. I am going to be traveling to Japan in a couple of months and i'm very much looking forward to actually being able to buy retro games in a physical store!
@davidcbeaudoin Жыл бұрын
That Super Famicom themed GBA SP is slick! I have the "NES Edition" SP that Nintendo released way back when, but yours is way cooler. The prices on physical games have seemingly shot through the roof in recent years. I normally won't shell out much more than the retail cost of a game I find in second hand shops, but I found and bought a copy of Wario World for the GameCube for $100 USD this past weekend. A bit more than I wanted to spend, but I didn't have it yet and rarely see complete copies in good shape.

Awesome story! I do feel that with more online storefronts, it's harder to find physical stores that carry retro games. Used to have a place called Play N Trade where I lived that had a very diverse selection of retro games but it closed as I was finishing High School. GameStop also stopped carrying GBA and GC titles around that same time. I only got into collecting after I graduated college and could actually afford games, but it's been a bit difficult.
