I can explain why there are a lot of people still playing this game but then i'm gonna make a 5 pages of essay out of it. Here's the kind of short version of it: Basically it's a really complex game but at the same time, you can just be chill and renovate your kitchen or playing dress up anytime you want. And you've witnessed yourself how cool the community is. What happened to you it's not special or new. The players legit like to help noobs or each other. It's a breath of fresh air compared to most MMO games where everyone just want to be an asshole to eachother (as if the real world is not already fucked up enough) So we like to stick around and dont have to worry about asshats trying to destroy our camp. And when a giant molerats or scorchedbeast show up, 20 of us will come right away and fight together. It's beautiful. We live in a fallout universe with other fallout fans. While the solo games, which are really good for what it is, they dont have the craziness an online MMO game can offer You're only scratching the surface when you reached level 100 but it feels like you've done a fallout lifetime already. When you thought you've done everything, there's always more. But that's Fallout. The fans are people with incredible patience and skill to read because the stories you get from the terminals or notes, they are bonkers and can be hilariously morbid af sometimes. But yea, from what I've seen the way you play this game, it's definitely not your thing and your complains are quite valid. I'm gonna reach level 1000 in a couple of weeks and Im gonna celebrate it by using a birthday skin anti armour rolling pin, killing enemies twice my size, while wearing a chef clothes covered in blood, running around in public event. And when I'm downed, I know I got buddies that will revive me and dance and pray to the mothman once the missions are done. Thank you for visiting Appalachia note: started playing 2 years ago when things are improved

What an incredibly in depth and informational comment thank you so much. So it seems to me that community is an important factor for the game, and I can definitely see why it is as I've experienced it in game. Tf2 is one of my favourite games of all time and it's pretty much held together by its community, so I get where you're coming from. And from what you're saying, the story is actually not that bad if I were to have actually read it (sorry about that I just wanted to do as much as I could in 20 hours). An actual W comment from someone who's not berating my opinion on something, I really appreciate it my guy. Even though it's still not my type of game, I'm glad you opened my eyes to at least see WHY people are playing it :)

Setting/Theme: This is primarily the core of Fallout games, not the story. TES series is basically a story-first, setting second series. Fallout is the opposite. When Bethesda took over the series, they pushed the story to the front and the setting to the back. Most complaints online from people who have played the other Bethesda games are for this reason: they want to play a Bethesda story game. RPG Aspects: The SPECIAL system and the cards are really good. For the actual SPECIAL, most games don't have this many core stats, at least in any meaningful way. Combat: Proooobablyyyyy shouldn't have gone melee. That's where you're getting the floatiness from. On the single player games, the VATS system lets you basically slow down time and queue up your attacks and then they execute when you confirm. On Fallout 76, the melee is just really bad. Hell, you may hate the gunplay too, lol, but it's worth noting that you went a route that everyone knows is bad. I mean, you can kill stuff well with it, and even moreso at very high levels. It's just clunky and janky as all getout. Story/quests: Just do these for credit or to get whatever it is you need. The story is there for if you want to play through and "beat" the game and be done with it, but it's really not supposed to be something you're focused on. Overall: Seems like you were playing this like a single player story-driven game that you play for like 30-40 hours and complete, but in co-op mode. Now, THIS is the important part, as far as your overall questions at the end of the video goes: It's an open-world sandbox action MMORPG. It's not a co-op RPG. Yes, there is a story you can go through, if you want. Two, actually. But the actual game itself is just a big sandbox set in the Fallout universe. It gives you all the core mechanics for RPG, housing, crafting, questing, events, gathering, etc. From there, it's kinda just what you and others make it. That's not to say that it's not still not your cup of tea, nor am I attempting to invalidate your thoughts or opinions, lol. Just figured I'd clarify what seems like the overall confusion is for you. If you treat it like TES or the single player FO games, you'll probably be confused and annoyed AF lol. Makes much morse sense if you look at it as a sandbox MMORPG (even if its 20 players max and world isnt persistent).
@lmayo870
@lmayo870 Ай бұрын
Ohhh okay this is actually pretty informative thanks. Sometimes I do think that I should've just done whatever I wanted to in the video instead of following the questline, but I also thought that questing was the best way to level up and to unlock stuff (outside of expeditions I guess). Had I known this was more sandbox I would've approached it differently and probably enjoyed it more to be honest. Guess I've just been playing too many story games to make up my own lol. As far as the combat though, I tried the gunplay off camera and it still didn't really click for me. But shooting definitely felt 1% better than melee. I just find it crazy how you're doing combat for at least 80% of the game and in that 80% it doesn't feel satisfying, seems counterintuitive or a missed opportunity. I appreciate your comment though, definitely gave me more insight to why people enjoy this game, makes me want to play more sandbox MMOS to appreciate the genre more lol

@@lmayo870 If you think of it in MMO terms, MMO’s also have main storyline quests and side quests and whatnot. People will go through them for the guided exp boost, but no one really pays much attention to the lore nor treats them as “oh this is how I beat the game.” Others just farm exp doing whatever. From what I wrote, the whole community aspect people keep hyping up should also make more sense, as they’re all basically playing a non-persistent, instanced MMO, so of course community will be a big impact. For combat, the original games were turn-based, and when Bethesda made FO3, they made VATS as a means to partially replicate that aspect of the original, while also allowing for full FPS mode. Since the game is an open world RPG first, and a shooter, basically, tertiary, they didn’t invest a whole lot into the actual gunplay, so it wouldn’t ever play like an actual FPS. For FO76, they couldn’t do the whole “stop time” aspect of VATS for combat, so they changed it so that it’s basically an “on demand” aim-assist. It definitely takes some time to get used to, but after a dozen hours or so, it should feel about like how going from hipfire to ADS feels on FPS games, so you’d really have three modes: hip fire, ADS, and VATS, and just toggle between them as appropriate. I will say, for most players, at least later on in the game, they’ll have at least one legendary with the Explosive trait on it (don’t blow yourself up), which immensely helps with hordes of small janky mobs, and then have their regular go-to weapon (if it isn’t already explosive itself). For melee, although janky, it can 1 or 2 shot most mobs later on, and the main aspect of it, being in an rpg and not a fps, is that there’s no real resource drain on it in the form of ammo, and there’s less gearing and having to build around it. The heavy guns can be quite consuming on ammo and repair materials, so they have to farm more to keep dishing it out. One thing people are leaving out about the game opening up post-50, is that once you hit 50, you don’t go up in SPECIAL stats anymore, so that part of building your character is out of the way. After that, it’s pretty much just moving perk cards around to get a feel for exactly how you want your build to play, and decking yourself out in the Legendaries that will contribute to such. After that, the wasteland basically becomes your post-apocalyptic playground, with friends to boot. I’ll give an example of my original build, play style, and a game session as an example, for the overall feel of the game: Max Intelligence, then Perception/Agility. The max intelligence means I have perk cards to stay in Power Armor basically 24/7, and get decent bonuses to scrapping. The rest of the Intelligence perks go towards stuff that makes it easier to gather materials, farm them, and craft more of them, so I constantly have a surplus of materials. The Perception and Agility primarily go to explosives and pistols. The .44 revolver specifically. The damage is high, the build requirements are low, and most importantly, I use basically no resources to keep it going. So, there you have it… a scientist/crafter perma running around in power armor executing super mutants with a shot from a .44 pistol… Now, when I first log in for a game session, that I know I will be on for several hours, I will start by going take 3 of the workshops and setting them up so they auto farm materials for me. One is the junkyard, so that I have all the springs and other troublesome to find scrap parts for building explosives and other devices. One is the munitions factory, so I can either top up my own ammo reserves, or, more likely, top up some friends’. And the hazardous waste site, so I have plenty of fusion cores to spare. At some point I will go back to my camp and check on my crops and water. The crops allow me to craft the adhesive stuff that’s used for basically everything in the game for free and easily. The water is always an excess, so that’s just free caps right there. After all that stuff, I’ll see if any events are on the map or not and go join up with people to do those. Maybe, if it’s dead, I’ll go launch a nuke for the server so everyone can come farm the special mobs for loot or gather the rare resources in the now irradiated zone. Cut back to the camp where I’m building and customizing it for no reason, but, eh… it’s home. Friend that I randomly met one day hops on server and starts following me around until I ask him what he wants to do, so we go do that. Meet some randos and go do an expedition. Overall, pretty chill play session. Kill some mobs, farm some stuff, hang out in the wasteland, make some drugs that I leave lying around for some poor soul…. You know, the usual. Searched KZbin for Fallout 76 and yours came back pretty high on a pretty short list of recent ones. May be worth a shot to reroll and select one of the level 20 gunner ones and see if you can get the hang of toggling the three different shooting modes, not to mention a new approach to the sandbox aspect of the game as a whole. Both the TV show and 76 are topping all the charts. If it’s doable, may be beneficial to edit and stream. Good luck out there.

No mods, no companions, almost every NPC is essential, bad quests, bad dialogue, choices don't matter even a bit, you can't take gear from NPCs or move objects/bodies around - all the things (even little things) that make a Fallout game - and then you have the MTXs, cash shop and so much predatory monetisation and FOMO and QOL features locked behind a subscription (me: takes a deep breath) as the icing on top. It's extremely shallow - as wide as an ocean but with the depth of a puddle. I have 776 hours in the game and the majority of that is from doing the same stuff over and over again and getting hooked by the MMO aspects (e.g. grind/farming/dailies) - the illusion that I'm working towards something and having fun where in reality I'd just become a slave to dopamine (from all the drops you get from doing events and other repetitive stuff). Pretty much the same problem I had with ESO. About the only thing I think it has equal to the other Fallout games, in terms of quality, is the sense of exploration (map) and the soundtrack. It's also pretty satisfying having players check out your C.A.M.P and all the small interactions you can have with other players (but overall it's just blurgh). This is why I enjoyed maybe the first 99 hours I put into it (in terms of value for money - what I originally paid). But at that point my inventory became an issue which essentially made it impossible to continue playing without subscribing to Fallout 1st which I did for a year (ends in August yay!). So you can see my going from 99 hours to 776 hours that Fallout 1st is almost definitely a requirement and they've purposely designed the game to be this way (to relieve you of as much of your money as possible).

dayum bro, sounds like you had a terrible time with this game lol. I feel you on the cash shop (something I wish I said more of in the vid), I was looking through the store and some of the things on there made me double take and scratch my head a couple times. I also had no idea that the game was shallow, I figured I was just scratching the surface in 20 hours but I guess not. Overall though this is a pretty good comment, thanks for giving an insight to someone who's played the game for a long time and doesn't enjoy it. Really opened my eyes

legit i feel so absolutely bad for you that 76 was your first. fallout 3 was incredible and 2 is still my favorite to this day. 76 is good to me ive been playing since day one but the og's are so good. also the fact you didnt read anything explains why you don't like it. for me the game requires a lot of imagination like an oldschool table top board games are they exciting and full of explosions no but with imagination they can be. same with 76. i play to roll play a survivor i love looking for food and water and scrap it gives me a feeling of being there and i dont fast travel i just spend my days wondering and looking for my next meal i did this at the end of every fallout and what makes this one special is that without a guided story i make my own every terminal or note i find is to peak my curiosity of what exactly happend in this place i just wanted water but now im reading about internal affairs bad business deals and even drug bust gone wrong all things i wouldnt know just looking at skeletons on the ground walking by trying to find my next thing to shoot. some people say the community is the only thing that is fun about the game but i actually really liked when it was hard to find another player for my role play experience it made it intense are we gonna fight? who is this guy? what does he want? it made it feel like i was in a waste i thought i was the only survivor in and finding someone else felt insane and nerve racking i loved it. i hope you dont take that wrong and think im saying its only fun because i put a lot of mental work into it when i say imagination i mean really put yourself there forget what you read or hear just step in and survive keep asking questions and read please read and dont expect to be the most important thing ever that leads to a crazy weapon or armor just enjoy the fact that you know who the skeletons are and maybe even try and finish that last thing they could t..... you never know what that will lead to. for reference look up unmarked quest in fallout 3 and new vegas it is the same concept and you'd be surprised what you miss out on.

So this is actually what I thought people play the game for, it's atmosphere. I 100% get where you're coming from, but its hard for me to put myself in the game's universe when it constantly takes me away from it. Like I said in the outro of the video, the bugs and glitches were pretty apparent when I played the game, and the overall feel of the gameplay felt lacking. I also get the appeal of reading every piece of text you find to discover some lore, but personally the unsatisfying gameplay combined with the glitches made the storytelling feel drawn out. I'm glad you were able to envision yourself in the game's universe as I was unable to, but putting in mental work to read text when the game equally gives me a negative mentality is difficult

Played all Fallout 3, 4, New Vegas and 76. As for 76, for me the game itself starts at around level 50 to 100. Before that the character is just too weak to do anything. The community is extremely wholesome and it encourages everybody to help each other out, joining Events is very rewarding (which is only relevant in lvl 50 and higher IMO). The possibilities with CAMP building is great, there is always something new when you take like a month or two months break, those new Expeditions are cool. For me the coolest thing was Power Armor hunt and Mutation Serum hunt. And ofc playing with friends :) I tried to make a new character to experience how it feels for new players and it is awful :D So the motivation to help low levels is even higher :) But I can see why someone would turn off this game after a few hours and never come back after trying out new character :)
