I always call hunt “the thinking man’s shooter”. There is so much depth to the combat and the tactics you can use it’s incredible. I was able to get a kill because I heard someone aim down sights once, that’s how detailed the game is. You build up a picture of the state of play as you progress through a match, assigning loadouts to certain players based on their skins and such… there’s just so much more *thought* involved, which is why I love the game. The fact the guns shoot so slow is also a big draw to me, seeing as most of the time I can actually react to getting shot rather than getting gunned down by an assault rifle before I can blink lol. (We don’t talk about the avto)

The game for me was Arma 3. The downtime between fights was more scary than the fight because at least when they're shooting at you, it's obvious where they are. All that preparation and planning could end in 1 well placed shot and that kind of importance and emphasis on being fragile and not being able to see a marker on your enemy or avoiding a gunship because you can't just shoot the pilot out from 1km with a pistol but he can shoot rockets back at you is what makes those games more meaningful and fun.

I stumbled upon DayZ after a 20 year hiatus from gaming. I searched Game Pass for an open world survival game and cross referenced with KZbin reviews. Imagine my shock going from the gaming quality of 2003 to 2021 in a flash. I was blown away by the vastness of Chernarus and the endless possibilities for strategy. With that said, it’s been a couple years and DayZ is literally 94% of my gaming. And i still suck at PvP
@ninjafruitchilled16 күн бұрын
DayZ is truly great. That said there is a lot of stuff in it that is just a bit stupid and annoying. Like for some reason antibiotics cure viral illnesses, and you can catch viruses just by walking in the rain for two minutes. There are probably mods to fix some of these unrealistic things but I didn't have the energy to find a server tuned how I'd like. I don't really play anymore because it kind of lacked direction after a while, I played solo and infrequently for short periods of time and it is kind of impossible to progress in those circumstances. You can't collect enough resources to do anything because no matter how you hide them someone will find and steal them, and if you bury lots of stashes for redundancy then they just end up getting despawned by the server before you have time to get back to them. It'd be great to see DayZ rebuilt to better handle long-term object persistence. And also an even bigger world. Perhaps if PlayerUnknown succeeds in their Artemis project it will become possible.

I think games like COD try to make things 100% equal at all times; Always enough ammo, no food or water to worry about, no broken limbs, etc. They test one specific aspect of player skill and that’s it. I found my "calling" in Tarkov AND Hunt. Hunt for me is more arcade, casual type of game where after around 2500 hours you just know everything, you have muscle memory of certain jumps, weapon switching, quick peeking, you just hop into autopilot and just run around and instead of focusing on the objective since you've done it all already numerous times? Me and my friends just do stupid shit like going into the raid without a weapon and using only the random rare spawned weapons or simply the axes, pitchforks and whatnot. We tried to go into the raid with nothing but a derringers and not only we've banished both bosses, but had 6 hunters killed. And that's what I love about Hunt. You can take it more seriously and have a good time, or do some goofy shit and still have fun. But Tarkov is where my heart is, clocking around 4500 hours played (I know these hours are for some outrageous, but I play both games since day 1 and in addition to these 2 games I play only Dota2, so hey there's not much room to drown my hours into anything else innit?) I same as in Hunt, tried it all, did it all. Some wipes were played purely with shotguns or pistols and nothing else. When daily/weekly quests came out, you COULD ignore the main quests and still have traders leveled up to max. I tried a hardcore account, as mentioned a certain category of wepons only (Shotguns only wipe, Pistols only wipe and so on) Me and my friends tried "The Cultist Playthrough" where we rushed towards NV equipment and hunted down cultists for their poison knives, dressed in all black and set up ambush spots where we'd shank someone with the poison knife and tried to break their legs so they couldn't run away from us. We went into the Labs with grenade launchers and just spammed grenades all over the map. But not to sound like a bunch of retards that just bully people, we had two wipes where we were actively searching for people on Discord/KZbin/Twitch and offered our help. Thanks to this we've met so many interesting people who we talk with today and from time to time we play together, but the ultimate reward that brought this "helping playthroughs" was that we've built a "community" of around 14 people from all across Europe and just month ago we all had a meet up in Finland at one of the guy's cottage for a week. There was this guy from Netherlands, 2 Germans, 2 swedish blokes, 1 madman from Italy, My stupid ass from Czech Republic and one guy from France that brought his wife and a dog and we all just spent the whole week fishing on a lake, having trips around the mountains and each day someone cooked the most traditional meal from their own country. Actually when I think of it the guy from Netherlands wasn't on our "helping spree" ... he was just a random bloke that accidentally added me in-game instead of buying my stuff on the Flea Market. And I know, these types of "friendships" could've been built in any other game with any other reasons, but somehow this whole trip to Finland, being soaked through all day long from the fishing trips, trying out food from different countries, sharing stories and just getting to know different cultures was so magical and all thanks to this stupidass game where you'd never expect such friendly and I dare to say wholesome outcome since ... you know? Tarkov ain't exactly known for being the friendliest game out there :))

We all got downed several times, but eventually we cleared out the entire lobby of players. 12 kills might not seem like a lot - especially not when split up across 3 players - but the amount of detective work involved in determining whether or not the the guy you just shot was solo, in a duo, or in a trio, and, if so, where his friends were on top of keeping track of your own friends, ammo, and health while scavenging the map and downed players for supplies; it's just peak gaming. No other game can even come close to creating moments like that. Personally, I recommend either running solo or in a trio. Everything is fun with friends of course, but two other teammates gives you a LOT of flexibility with how you approach a situation and playing alone will really let you take in the amazing atmosphere of the game. For a Czech dev team, they really nailed what it's like to be outside on a summer evening in the South. I'm so glad Dave made a video on this game

haha nice. I never really got into the TDM style games, especially with one life but I agree with you and see the appeal you make in this video. As for me I played the actual mess out of BF1942. I loved the aircraft which is how I found your channel doing aircraft stuff in BF5. I learned to get into the bombers and fly really high (there is no flight ceiling in 1942) and use the map grid to release all the bombs at once from REALLY high up (would take a minute to actually hit there target and I couldn't see, just had to wait for kill spam) and carpet bomb spawn points and bases for crazy kill streaks. Eventually the fighters would fly above the clouds and find me. Sometimes I would get them and sometimes they would shoot me down. Im not sure if the other BF games do this but when you bail out high enough and start falling and don't pull your chute your character starts screaming. If you can far enough you will hear him crap his pants over and over again lol. I would parachute into the enemy base and start guerilla warfare tactics and steal their tanks and planes and use their AA, no other gameplay like it. When the Desert Combat mod came out I switched to that, nothing like using a scout camera to call in SCUD strikes on players lol. The only thing Desert Combat did not have was lock on missiles for the jets you just had rockets. I dont think my unicorn game will ever come out though. Ive learned at this point I will probably have to make it myself and that is fine by me. I loved the GIANT open maps with each capture point becoming its own little war story and mini map that you could drive or fly to. I cant tell you how many times I got shot down in the middle of nowhere only to see a jeep passing by and spamming requesting a pickup emote and he would stop and take me to the point he was going to and we would become battle buddies for a little while. Nothing like trying to get to a capture point with a big battle going on and suddenly a fighter is strafing you on the road and you are dodging like crazy. I like BF1942 maps with vehicles left out to take (HATE the spawn system in the newer battlefield games) combined with the destruction physics of Bad Company 2 (no other battlefield comes close BFBC2 has COMPLETE destruction physics, BF1 and BF5 do NOT have COMPLETE destruction physics and no amount of crying here will prove that otherwise) and then have the graphics of BF1/BF1 with a Foxhole style world map server would be incredible. I'm into sci-fi though and so if I had my game of games would be a Cyberpunk2077 MMO mixed with an interstellar Starcraft universe with different planets and cities to fight over, with players creating Mercenary groups to help out the different corps and running missions with a BF1 type of gun play and interaction as Cyberpunks gameplay is still a bit stiff and too fast.

I really love seeing hunt get the love it deserves. One thing you might have understated slightly is the sound design and atmosphere. The guns, monsters, shots in the distances, the water, twigs and every tiny detail sound design is best of the best. Its a blend of horror with this insane intensity of PVPVE. When fights happen with the boss monsters and human characters there is nothing that gives that feeling of rush. And you're one of the most important assets to your team of 49 other players. Spawn points need ammo and build supplies in Squad. If you ever buy it (100% do mate) check out Royal Anglican and Iron Warriors servers if you're in the UK\ Europe. I am so damn annoyed about lazerpewpew automatic rifles in every game dominating close, mid and long range combat and because of that all ARs feel same or there is no reason use anything else than 1 or 2 different ARs because everything else is shit compared to them. In Hunt Showdown all weapons feel pretty different and every bullet counts. And every weapon type are pretty much best at their designated roles. Shotguns are devastating at close range, lever action and similar are good mid fight and bolt actions are good mid/long range. Revolvers etc. are good at every rang depending on the gun.

Technically speaking, an adrenaline dump occurs after an intense period when massive of amounts of adrenaline are pumped into the body, and then nothing. It’s the calm after the storm. People often pass out or go to sleep after such an event. For most people this is a fight for life event, not just a roller coaster. The movie Gravity superbly displays this when Sandra Bullock passes out on the Chinese space station after surviving her initial encounter with the Russian space debris. A well filmed and well acted movie scene. Technically speaking.😊

1st vid of yours I've seen. You nailed it describing the allure of DayZ's adrenaline rushes in firefights. You work so hard to get gear, and go so long before seeing people, when shots finally come in you you are shaking like a real firefight is happening, and you do NOT want to a) die, and b) reward the ahole that killed you with the gear you spent hours acquiring. It's the ultimate insult to injury scenario. But if you can manage to get revenge it's the best feeling in all of gaming. Especially in the old days when they allowed your victim to hear your voice a few seconds before they truly died, so you can talk all the shit you want. Ah good times. And yeah I quit for the same reason. It's too much of a time suck. Well that... and the game is too buggy.

I started playing this game in 2019, and man has it always been insanely underrated. Also I love how the devs make their own music for the game, I doubt a lot of people know this

It’s actually hilarious and interesting to be addicted to literally the worst functioning, worst UI, worst developed and some of the shittiest games in history. We all have our own niche things, it’s just crazy that you like games that are known for not being fun and are basically entirely punishment.

Hunts the best man. Every time I play solo my hands literally shake with adrenaline after wiping a team. My friends and I have been playing since 2018, and it's just been a blast. Between being 6 stars and doing goofy shit like only bringing penny shot derringers or spears to fighting for our lives going for double bounty while fully kitted out. HUNTs got the widest range of goofy to seriously intense gameplay and is my favorite shooter ever. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a challenge.

It was TRIBES 2 for me. Still searching for that high. Later sequels weren’t as good… no where close. Had moments in Battlefield 2, ARMA III and Apex Legends. But TRIBES 2 was like all those mixed together. 😢😢😢

The most terrifying, frustrating, outright rage-inducing but absolutely exhilarating shooter there is. Absolutely best with a couple of friends in Trios. There's nothing like Hunt. Yes, Tarkov die-hards will wax, but there's no comparison.
