They could probably benefit from going in an ultrasonic bath but finding one big enough could be expensive in itself. Perhaps an ultrasonic toothbrush?

Bad move to use an abrasive. Mild chemical cleaner or a 10 minute soak in white vinegar and rinse in distilled water. Slow dry

No Emery, use contact cleaner or other non-abrasive methods. For each set you should be testing ram and cpu in a known working unit to confirm those are all ok. For 0000 and possibly others, clear cmos so it uses defaults - given it is an overclocking motherboard any corruptions in cmos could cause it to be trying to configure strange values. Check CPU socket. To put it simple, don't skip the basics, especially when doing a batch.

Check the caps around the RAM, even though they may “look” OK .. or recap one these bricked ones just to see. Scope the VRMs to see if they’re all running.

You always check for shorts, but you don't always use ISO on the ram and other slots, and don't always change the CMOS battery.....which almost always seem to be a problem. Why don't you do those things as well each time. It appears to me that you would possibly get further on each board sooner. Just a thought.

If you can get the connectors out ultrasonic cleaning would remove the corrosion. Mechanical cleaning could damage the coating on the contacts

Hi Richard, take it from My mate Vince and get a DeoxIT Contact cleaner spray. For those 0000 bards, try he oscilloscope on the BIOS chip if it's accessed and if it is, try to re-flash the BIOS chip.

This is a RAM problem not a BIOS problem as proven in the video

@@LearnElectronicsRepair I meant the DeoxIT for the boards which have the RAM contact issues. The BIOS check was meant for the boards with the 0000 status and no changes on the 4 LEDs. Those 2 that appeared dead.

i think dexoit will be your friend - as its super safe - can leave it over night but its for tarmish on the pins rather than those white spots of corrosion but you could try normal white vinegar for 10mins first - sometimes ive used a 1500grit wet and dry folded to fit into the slot and do a few passess if its stubborn but u do see a bit of gold plate discolouration on the paper after - i think a emery file is to coarse

I'm really surprised that you don't have a can of contact cleaner to spray those ram contacts. It's a very common problem with poor contact resistance in any kind of electronics repair. A makeup brush will not clean electrical contacts 🙂

Emery board seems awfully invasive to me. Those contacts are plated with something. It could work in the short term but I imagine the base metal would corrode fast without plating on it. Seems more like a used car salesman fix to me. Some banana peels in the transmission to get it off the lot. Some of that corrosion did look bad.
