I Spent 40 Hours With The Nitro Deck. The Verdict?

I love my Nitro deck! After getting it I went out and bought the switch oled. It stays permanently docked in the Nitro deck now. It really makes for a great gaming experience. I own a ton of switch games and if the switch to is not backwards compatible I definitely will not be buying it anytime soon when it comes out.

That's awesome man! I think the Nitro Deck really helps to modernize the Switch and extend it's lifespan more if that's even possible seeing as were about to hit the 7 year mark this March! The only time I'm removing my Switch from my Nitro Deck is to capture game footage for reviews. I think the Nitro Deck is a great investment and a pretty small one at that. The fact that you can pick up the base Nitro Deck right now for $50 bucks which is $19 less than the Switch Pro Controller which is still retailing for $69 bucks, I mean why not?

Right, I’m with you on that because I’m getting so much more play time on my Switch now too! Totally worth it, especially with the price it is now. I just saw it this week on Amazon I believe for $49.99 which is a steal!

Hi Steve, great review! I’ve wanted one for ages but have been worried about it scratching the back of my switch and the right joystick position! To update the firmware (if required) do you need to plug it into a computer to do so or can it be done another way? Thanks so much!

Hi! Thank you for subscribing and I’m glad you liked the review! The Nitro Deck did not scratch the back of my OLED Switch thankfully and I found it pretty easy to insert or remove from the Nitro Deck which helps to ensure no scratches occur. To update the firmware, you plug it into your computer. It was a very quick .exe firmware download, plug it in with the included USB and it took maybe 20 seconds to install. I don’t believe there is another way to install the firmware based on the information provided on their website.

Works great with a modded Switch running RetroArch. Worked great even on Dreamcast games + Atomiswave conversions. PSP game compatibility so far has been really good. Great edits and subbed 😎👍

There is a handful of cool Nitro Deck designs! The Crystal Collection is really cool and so is the Super Nintendo but it wasn’t a very hard choice to pick up the Indigo GameCube Deck!

Just got it today and had a game on EA FC 24, and it's solid for competitive play. It's a definite must buy for both casuals and Switch Enthusiasts.

I love my Nitrodeck I really do, but the rumble is terrible, just turn it off and you'll have an amazing handheld experience

Right, the rumble is not great but everything else about the Nitro Deck is awesome. I'm very happy I bought it and I hope to see some of the Nitro Decks features in the Switch 2 when it finally gets unveiled next year! Are you planning on picking up a Switch 2?

Nice!! I saw the Hellboy edition and it looks pretty awesome and is a pretty unique collab IMO. I have the Persona 3 Portable Nitro Deck ordered from LRG that is set to arrive sometime around Mid-May. You'll have to let me how you like your Nitro Deck once you get it and test it out!

The nitro deck is good but it has one fatal flaw. The placement of the right joystick under the bottoms. The right joystick should be a 45 degree angle from the buttons. So your thumb moves sidesaways to it and not down. I have the Binbok split controller there placement is amazing.

Hi, do you know if all of the Nitro Decks have the thumbstick positioned like that or is it just the GameCube one? I thought I recalled watching a review and a Reviewer mentioned the thumbstick placement and that it 'bothered him but it may not bother you'. For me, I'm thankful to be able to honestly say it didn't bother me to the point that I forgot about it until you mentioned it but I can see now how that could be a major flaw for people. I think for me, it's a big improvement over the joycons sans the rumble and so for me, I'm a big fan of it and ultimately, I hope Nintendo takes inspiration from all the handheld mode controller alternatives on the market and implements the best of all of them into the Switch 2. The BinBok looks pretty sweet too.

Well, I just hope Nintendo has looked at what the Nitro Deck did right and can incorporate at least a few of it's positives in the new Switch. If not, I wouldn't be surprised if CRKD comes out with a Nitro Deck for Switch 2!

Thanks for sharing your feedback! I thought I read somewhere that they are fixing the right stick placement with their latest Nitro Deck +. But for people like us who already bought one, it's unfortunate to say the least.

Yeah well now with the Plus version it’s beyond worse. Buttons are lowered and you don’t really need that right stick for multiple multiple games. I thought it was fine honestly and I have BIG hands

Hi! I was wondering what the battery drain is like when the switch is in sleep mode while in the nitro deck?

Hi Mert ,thankfully I haven't noticed any sort of difference in battery life when the Switch is asleep in the Nitro Deck. I decided to google it and saw a Reddit Post about this issue but I have not experienced this issue myself. Some people in the Reddit post stated that the light turned on while in sleep mode but I just put my Nitro Deck into sleep mode and the CRKD light stayed off. I will also say that just yesterday CRKD released a firmware update for the Nitro Deck. If this is a legit issue, I wouldn't be surprised if it was already fixed through a previous firmware update. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to test anything out for you. 👍

Ooooh the Crystal Nitro Decks look really good. I love my GameCube Deck but if the Crystal Collection would have been available at the time I purchased mine, I might have went with something from the Crystal Collection instead.
