In another 10/20 years you will crave being in a cabin like that all alone and calm. Plus you will have things fixed to make it more comfortable.

get some straw and mud, get a tarp and make some cobb, get the gaps filled, then have a good fire. u plowed through the wood because u lost a lot of heat from the gaps.

If you wanted to slow down the fire, you should've closed the draft under the door. Also, for future reference, it could also use a damper in the stovepipe. Like others have already said, close the gaps in the walls. You've already learned to gather wood before it snows, much easier to find when you can see it. lol Live and learn. It's not that hard to figure out, give it time. I'm not judging, we all start somewhere. I just want to say "Think of the cabin as a hard tent." Being sealed properly is a key element. Do you own this shack? Are you permitted to do this more often? The more you do this, the better you'll do.

I would have covered up the holes the best I could in the walls and the roof and brought a lantern for light and if you can't get WI Fi bring a few books to read or card to play with or a radio or a cd player to help keeping occupied instead of being bored and some dry good food but keep away from the mice.

Guys going to be a bit critical here. OK you have a stove in the cabin. Wasted time everyone cooking and playing around first thing. Perhaps one start a fire while the others get wood. With the rain coming down there was the chance to get mud and patch the walls. A tarp over the holes in the roof. With those two things done your wood would last longer and you would stay much warmer. OK ,it looked like fun, and makes for good memories. Just me being structured in a wilderness situations.

You should of put a plastic canvas on the side of the cabin with holes. It would stay warmer. Next time you should tarp the top and side. That would hold the heat. Have totes for the food. You can always keep cold food outside in container. Also you can research how to cook a pizza in a fire. Need To pans.

Read a book about Bushcraft, that's living off the land shelter and food also it wouldn't hurt to review your supplies before camping. Cooking needs, sleeping pads and bags in winter it might be warmer to use a cot. If you plan the next trip well and take time to cover the gaps in the cabin it might be a better experience. And you will always need more firewood than expected

I'm confused, were you there alone? Were those kids your brothers? That kid could have cut his damn hand off, opening that can of soup. Well, I guess they came there with you, I see a truck out side. Why didnt you tell your audience some story about that shack, was it warm in there,? Is that your stove and is today near your home? My point to that, is I would camp out in our front yard, with my mom looking out the window all night. Believe me, at some point in your life this will be heaven on earth for you. Next video, tell us more,ok,,? I live in Manhattan and this is the only way I get to camp out. Your filming was nice, sorry the blizzard didnt happen. Why 50hrs. Man I have got to get a talk show. Text back let know why you didnt even block up those holes, where did you sleep, in your van?? I'm sure you did. That's fine. Your on the right filming track. Keep it up!! Peace.

I was alone for most of the time. They were my cousins and were only there for the 1st part of the video. I didn't share a lot of information about the video because most people don't care to hear about that stuff. The closest house to where I was is about a quarter mile away. I did sleep in the cabin both nights. I just had my truck left there so I could unload everything easy. Didn't even go in it 1 time during the 50 hours.

@@blocketh Thanks for responding, people DO CARE about that stuff. Imagine your are reading a story to a little kid. Ok, yet, another way, this is your experience that we / meaning me, won't have. Where did you sleep, Were you not freezing? Even your little cousin about to do major damage to some part of his hand but acted cool, even saying: JUST USE YOUR HAND: Well what if he did hurt himself, how close is the hospital. I said I live in manhattan by many hospitals/ ya, never know. Anyway, just keep doing videos, this is how you learn, they are good now. But, hey make us see what it's like, tell a story, ya. Know what I mean? Your a smart young man.Thanks.
