Those bubbles on your hand are called blisters. You shouldn't be disappointed at all. Alot if hard work went into disassembling that dam. Those beavers must be alot more seasoned in their dam building experience. Was really well built. As far as a beaver dam actually quite beautiful. They also put a big effort in trying to make it not to collapse. ♥️👍

The amount of water in the fields draining off is crazy! People that are crying about the poor beavers should see how much damage they do to our food supply. Collapse or not, it was still amazing watching all that water drain. Great job! The farmer should be pretty happy with you!
@frankieelen7238

The farmers should constantly maintain the drainage of their farms. To let that huge dam grow and grow without doing anything about the problem, that farmer deserves to lose their crops. Asking you to come along, to solve their obvious problem, when it is much more dangerous and exhausting for you. I don't know, but do they pay you for this dangerous work? If not well they ought to do. We have these problems, (without the beavers), on the Somerset Levels. Without constant maintenance the "rhynes"* get clogged up and cause untold amounts of flooding in wet winters and many people lose their homes or endure much damage... * Channels.

The dam may not have been a great collapse, but you have drained much water from the fields, which is the main point, right? Those ditches were put there to allow crops to be able to grow; the beaver dams are a nuisance that need to be removed. Good job!

I mean I like the beavers they help sculp the landscape. I do however understand that any human infrastructure that it is jeopardy because of the beavers then those beavers need to be relocated and the dams removed.
@timothymilam732

Then go to the next level, and learn how to live trap the beaver too. Then relocate them or contact someone that relocates wild animals in your area. Then all your efforts won't be in vain, because as it is now you're simply repeating the same thing over and over. The farmers only get the use of the land for short period, and then they loose the money and labor used to plant the fields again once the beaver rebuild the dams.. Samberg aplies to the roads that you're only temporarily restoring use of, or the same also applies to the roads that were be damaged by the excessive runoff caused by the beaver. Until they are removed from the canals they're using for their homes, then you've only put a temporarily band aide on the real problems that your fighting . Plus if you live trap them, and relocate them then you know they aren't being delt with the way hunters, and farmers do in the winter times when their fur is worth the efforts of those that will kill the beaver if given the opportunity to do so. Entirely up to you whether you learn what'd needed to catch and relocate them,are continue as you have been. It's the Logical steps thst needs to be followed if your truly going to do the job right. They will eventually return, and they will have to be delt with again in a few years same as they are everywhere they are still wild populations of them around to do so.

Fully agree; and even in case a larger fragment of this wall of mud would really have collapsed, I’d expect it would have caused troubles somewhere downstream then (e.g. clogging a culvert). We’ve seen the mud dam was able to withstand the pressure of lot of water and barely dissolved even when the first trench was opened. Understand that a collapsing dam is more spectacular to witness and to place on YT. However, it was much more important here to show stamina and get the exhausting job done. It simply hasn’t been good place for a beaver dam, obviously affecting both fields and softwood / coniferous forest in an undesirable manner.

I'll never understand why the farmers don't take the dams down themselves. The water backing up on their property costs them money in lost crops, getting a tractor stuck when they weren't expecting it and on and on ...... These people owe you a big time.
@NRZ-3Pi10
@NRZ-3Pi10 4 ай бұрын
I will not speculate why the farmer didn’t take action by himself here, I’m more surprised he obviously did not already call for help during seed time. To me it appears the `field´ must have already been swampy for quite some time, judging from this massive dam enforced with lot of mud and the ditch being filled up to the top now. Yes, could be there’s been lot of rain during spring and summer. But this dam looked like it existed quite a while already. Might have been perfect for growing rice, except for climate conditions in Lithuania & Latvia aren’t really optimal for that 😉.

Often its better and more effective for the farmer, doing other important stuff on his end of business… Like boring paperwork.. Planning… Fencing… There can be loads of work to be done farming!🫣 So having people doing work like this… When not having the time or Crew… Full time Crew cost a lot… So he will be saving money, by having local people doing small jobs🤷🏼‍♂️

Those "bubbles" on your skin are called blisters. That was a lot of work, even for someone as physically fit as you are. That must have been an old dam; it would take a long time for the beavers to push up that much mud and for that much plant growth to grow on the downstream side of it. Very impressive job, the farmer should be thrilled to have his field drained.
