All that education and literacy doesn't count for much here unfortunately. History is proof that we don't learn from our mistakes, don't have the ability to think critically and evaluate. And so we time n time again fall for the age old ethno-religious statements. That a minority is a threat and that only a savior from a particular community can save the nation. Someone who will fight for the ethnicity and religion.. "jaathiya wenuwen" This govt was VOTED in this way. One thing we citizens are great at is blaming leaders not wanting to take responsibility for voting them in. And if u think of it, majority of the people at Aragalaya dont really want a sytem change either. They're happy to live on. This time the upper middle class lot turned up. Give them gas, petrol and food, and 75% of them will forget the "sytem change"

Some of the nicest people I've come across after moving to London were from the Sri Lankan community. I had reservations about the government for their treatment of tamils and Muslims. It's just like any other CBD in any big city around the world. Colombo is just a regular big city, and nothing much for tourists. All tourist attractions are outside Colombo.

@@d1p70 there's literally nothing touristy about colombo other than some colonial era buildings, high end shopping malls and clubs. vast majority of the tourist locations are all 50-300km's out side of colombo such as kandy, galle, jafna, arugam bay, trinco, nuwaraweliya etc. most the the tall buildings you see in colombo are either luxury apartment buildings or office buildings. the rich mostly lives in posh neighbourhoods within the city like colombo 7, colombo 8 while regular middle class folk live in near by suburbs within the colombo or gampaha districts like rajagriya, nawala, kalaniya, ragama etc.

sri lanka never made that much money on any sort of agricultural export other than tea and maybe cinnamon. the countries entire economy was mostly based on the tourism business and garment exports for top fashion brands around the world.

I'm afraid that Mauritius might end up just like Sri Lanka, with soaring debt levels,high inflation,depletion of foreign exchange reserves ,and a PM who has named a close friend or relative at the head of every institution,even his personal lawyer was made a member of the Electoral Supervisory Commission one year before the General Elections,and the President,also a member of the PM's inner circle, found it absolutely normal.
