omg yes I love when finances crossover with hobbies (this is adulthood)

This was actually super helpful. I never realized, or I guess thought about, how much booktubers may spend on books. It helped remind me that it’s ok that I’m not reading as much as influencers because it’s not my job or my side hustle.

Love this content! 😊 I wish more booktubers would be open about how much they spend on books. I buy most of mine used, and if I can’t find something I want used or from my library, I put in on a wish list my family can look up when they want gift ideas. And I still spent around 450 dollars on books last year 😮

i love the transparency here--i.e. specific dollars spent. it's interesting to learn how different people source their books. ultimately, i think there are worse ways to spend money. books are more than just another "thing" that you pay for after all. 🌷

Wow. Inflation is insane. I pretty much exclusively buy used books these days, I would say the last time I bought new books, new trade paperbacks where sitting in the $13-$16 range. Now they're all $18+ ???? That's crazy!!!

I have been setting a limit of $1000 a year on books for the last 3 years and while I do buy more books now that I've started and channel and I just read more than I had before, I still find that I don't struggle to spend too much. I will say I don't buy audiobooks, if I can't get it through libby, then I'm not reading it that way (but audiobooks aren't my preferred way of reading), I also don't subscribe to any book boxes or other subscriptions services. I will do KU once and a while, but I'll just do it for one month and make sure I read at least 3-4 books to make sure its worth the money I spent :)

This year is the first time I've actually started tracking my book spending and omg it's been eye opening. Especially now that I'm also tracking how much of those books I'm reading (not a lot straight away). But I also originally got my job so that I could buy books so I don't feel as bad about it. I've spent about $360 so far this year so at the beginning of the month I put myself on a book buying restriction, mostly for the sake of my tbr number.

I admire your bravery lol I don’t want to know how much I spend on books. But to answer your question- I personally love both 24 hour readathons and 7 books in 7 days videos but I think I prefer 7 in 7s. I don’t want you to sleep deprive yourself too much :)

I'm reading A Botanical Daughter and now that I'm a little ways in, it seems a little less flowery and is getting more interesting for me.

I can honestly say I've spent the same or over that amount on books this year, and I'm not even a youtuber. However, reading is my biggest hobby, and I'm also buying imported books because I currently live in Japan as a teacher, so of course the prices are higher. I don't think it matters how much you spend on books so long as the price you're spending is within your means. For conversation though, I do sometimes wonder about it when KZbinrs do specific book videos and go out and buy all these books, only to end up unhauling most of them. For videos like that, there are cheaper options like the library, ebooks (although sometimes those aren't any cheaper than a paperback), used if you're lucky...and some KZbinrs do utilize those. But not everyone.

You can actually pause your audible subscription. I think it's three months that you don't pay for new credits and you can keep and use the credits you already have in that time (the only thing is that you can't listen to free audiobooks while your subscription is paused)

I totalny understand that you started spending more money after starting booktube Channel, I hardly started KZbin, and I already have some book video ideas, and that means I have to buy certain book. I’m trying to put off buying books. I get easily overwhelmed when my tbr is to big. Currently I have 9 books on my physical tbr, and 5 graphic novels (they are for special occasions) I know that most of the people would think that it’s impossible to have such a small tbr, but I got stressed when I have to many books, and I buy them as a reward 💖 Im also interested in reading “the ministry of time”, please do reading vlog on it! I also already read 2 volume of Lightfall, and it was amazing so you need to read it. The 3rd volume in my country is coming up very soon. I can’t wait to read it ✨

unrelated to the video topic, but Ministry of Time reminded me of They Psychology of Time Travel, which I think you may like if you've not read it yet

I should really track my spending habits because it would make me more aware. I do write them down but later down the road, I sorta forget.

People says that It depends what you read, how many book you save to read etc. I was blocked for audiobooks after 2 novellas ( The Murderbot diaries), so I canceled it.
