Part 2: Amtrak Roomette Tour • Staying in Amtrak's SM...
In today's video, we tour Amtrak's bedroom on Silver Meteor 98 from Miami to Orlando. We discuss costs, amenities and whether the hefty price tag is worth it! Watch as we have breakfast and lunch, try out the bed and even take a shower to demonstrate the room's full potential for long hauls like to New York, which can take nearly 30 hours. Part 2 will be us staying in the Roomette, so be sure to subscribe!

We've never been on a train and we're going on the Amtrak Empire Builder this summer. You were a great help. Thanks for posting this very informative video Mr. Franco.

Cool video. and nicer bedroom than the older viewliner cars. Hopefully Amtrak will extend the Sunset Limited back to Orlando, Florida from Los Angeles ... pre-Katrina.

Beautiful! Spacious! Wonderful! You and your Wife Adorable! You guys may not understand what I am about say. This brings back memories of the old I Love Lucy show when they took a ride on a train! Wonderful! My Grandma took my sister on a train trip to New York. My Uncle took my brother on a train trip to see the Cleveland Browns play in Clevland Ohio! Wonderful! My step sister used to go back to New York after she spent the summer with us on Amtrack! Wonderful memories of the Amtrack Station standing outside!

What train? I just traveled from Chicago to Seattle on Amtrak's Empire Builder. Wonderful experience, I would do it again in a minute. What was the cost of the bedroom? I didn't see it.

Just was gonna say, the toilet paper situation. Yea it sucks. But they use that specific toilet paper to prevent jamming up of the system. If you use thicker toilet paper, it may cause jams, and then the toilets on the entire train will not work for the remainder of the trip.

Thanks for sharing. Which train were you on before you transferred? What train did you connect to? How long were each of your train rides staying in the roomette & bedroom and what was the total amount you paid? I’m currently planning a trip and just trying to learn as much as possible. Thanks again.

Excellent video. I have been thinking about doing this for years. I live in nyc wanted to go to fla n back, couple of questions if u dont mind. Do they serve vegan? Also that shower looks pretty crappy with the flow, but the last room u showed with just toilet is there a big difference in price between that one and the one u stayed in? Also is there a common shower? Thanks alot for your time and these great videos!!!!!!

Thanks for watching! They have vegetarian options but I don’t think vegan. As for the last room: that’s the ADA room for people with a disability. Should be same price. The car does have a communal shower, which is what guests in the Roomette would use (see my latest video!)

I suppose it would depend on the track, but I often traveled between Denver Colorado and Syracuse NY on Amtrak. It takes quite a bit longer, but it's FAR more comfortable than plane travel, if you have the time. The porters and staff on the train are very polite and nice, it's comfortable to hang out drinking beer or whatever in the observation lounge, you get to meet people you would never otherwise meet. You can feel the sway of the train, but it's not at all nauseating, nor is it loud. In many ways, it's a smoother ride than a car. Once you're going, you're going. I live in Silicon Valley now, I'd MUCH rather take Amtrak to LA than to fly to it. Even coach is very comfortable Some people take the train because they are simply so obese flying is impracticable. You'll see some of them in coach, others do it because they've done it, it (used to be?) cheaper than flying, and it's more comfortable. I've never had a problem and I've dragged friends to take the train, who resisted it because they have been propagandized into thinking it's "low class" and other stupidity. Get them to do it once, and they are a convert. Last time I took the train was between Syracuse and Boston - dragged a friend along for a 5 hour trip, we drank coffee, talked and just had a good time. He's a convert now.

Some stops are longer than others. There’s “smoke break” stops, shift change stops and other opportunities to stretch your legs and get some fresh air. I’d definitely only do a long haul in a room though. Couldn’t last in coach.

I've done it. It's quite comfortable actually. I had a 6 hour layover in Chicago, that was, by far, the worst part of the trip. You're basically in a long narrow building that is swaying gently, you won't get motion sick. You just hang out on a computer, drinking coffee, and reading and often meeting people that you'd never otherwise meet. In first class, sleeping is great. It's quite comfortable, and the meals are good, staff of the train is very polite and nice. Compare that to a plane where you're crammed into tube you can barely stand up in, being fed peanuts or if you're in first class something that is barely above a McDonald's burger in quality. It's much faster but when is the last time you had a conversation on a plane? You can't do it, because nobody can leave their seat when they get fed up. In the observation lounge, there's no pressure like that.
