Good day Lee! Wow such a spectacular building! Faded glory, so sad needs basic care, and mostly investment. It crys out for care and investment! The bleach is to disguise the other objectionable odors, the P's pee, poo, puke. What is wrong with the owners? Such potential!

Hi Lee great video,some public areas in hotel are beautiful look at but seems go up towards&into your room carpets&smell bleach overpowering. Should asked for another room hotel needs serious renovation I personally wouldn’t stay in that hotel for free not very appealing from the outside. Next time come to Liverpool try Liner Hotel back lime street train station should have better experience there but did well staying there for the night especially with bleach smell in your room. Weird looking at my home city on video,I go that way 5 days a week on my way to work at Port Of Liverpool Building at Pier Head. Like all Britannia hotels, magnificent buildings but as a budget hotel they can’t renovate all the rooms at once. You’ll probably find the first 2 floors totally immaculate. The work program is huge and will take time. I’m not defending them, I’m just trying to see it from a different perspective.

Stunning building suffering from drastic underfunding and circumstances of modern people. I'm sure 50-60-70 years ago people would treat the building with alot more respect and theirfore the price would be higher which would pay in turn for more staff and better upkeep. Everyone wants a room for under £100 per night and this drives the company to cut corners and operate on skeleton crews.

@domahern1046Ай бұрын
A fair conclusion at the end. Like others have said, the place seems to sum up the present state of the UK. Beautiful but under invested for decades and then bought out by a millionaire and run into the ground. What on earth is going on with the housekeeping and basic maintenance? A lot of cheaper hotels seem to have the same dank musty damp smell probably from leaking shower cubicles and bathrooms. Looks like that room had a basic makeover 10-15 years ago but was never maintained fully after.

I have never been inside the building, but I remember as a kid watching all the Rolls Royce cars lining up in front of the main doors. The man in his uniform outside greeting the clients and calling for the Trolleys to take the lugage in. You would wait under Dick opposite, hoping to catch site of one of the stars going in or out. It's a bloody shame, how dirty and delapidated it looks now. How can a hotel chain hope to run a business, and hold up a reputation when they are serving up such a horrible experience. Yes £50 a night is cheep in this day and age, but they could still make it clean. Of course they have to deal with the Pigs that make the mess in the first place. As you say Lee, "Shame on you Britannia".

I stayed at the Adelphi in December last year. I arrived as an emergency at 9.00 at night as my booked accommodation did not work out and I booked it at the last minute and got a taxi there. I thought it was OK. I had a single room that was a bit draughty but quite comfortable and the breakfast the following morning was fine. It was cheap and in a lovely central position especially as I was returning home from Lime Street Station. Yes, it was a little run down but I would stay there again if I needed a cheap hotel.

This is the worst rated hotel in Europe? You have to be kidding. I've stayed in hotels across Europe many of which were absolute toilets. In fact, I'm not convinced some of them were not public toilets. This is absurd luxury compared to a really run down Paris hotel in a violent neighborhood. Even the UK can supply some truly terrible near drug den hotels far far far worse than this.

Worst hotel i stayed in was the Topham in Belgravia, London. A posh area and an expensive hotel. Thankfully work paid. Rude woman on reception, a fur rug that seemed to have been ripped apart by a Rottweiler. The lift didn't work, the room was dirty, furniture battered. Plug sockets falling off. The air con outlet was covered in cobwebs, which blew around like a windsock, but didn't cool the room. Both taps were hot, which was a shock when cleaning your teeth - which i should have done in the shower, because that WAS cold! Mattress had practically decayed. Ended up wandering outside until I was so tired I would be able to fall asleep, quickly. Looking at recent reviews, it seems some people like it, so it may have improved...

But, sadly like most Hotels of this Period, No Money and No Big Investment has been spent on Up-dating, Re-decoration of the Rooms, all of the Carpets needing to be replaced, just a really Good lick of paint all over and Probably have a Professional Cleaning Company come in and Clean, Vacuum and a Good Dusting of the Hotels Furniture and it's Window's need a Thorough Clean. If they did all of that to the Britannia Adelphi Hotel and brought in a few Hotel Reviewers after that, I am sure this Beautiful Hotel would be given another Star or two. Really Good Investment and a new set of eyes to bring this Hotel up to date and a Pleasant Establishment to stay at and Enjoy Yourself. There was a BBC series in the late 90s which is on here, a proper grin featuring a nutty chef and the frightening manager Eileen Downey. She later went on to become GM of Britannia - the worst hotel group in the world. I found her quite reserved on the couple of times I interviewed her but there is no doubt she set the blueprint for the Adelphi. I often wondered whether they deliberatlely cultivated the Fawlty Tower experience. The ballroom is impressive for afternoon tea though.

It's so sad, that a company with historic beautiful buildings as its assets don't utilize them to their full potential. If they just kept up with the maintenance it would never have gone to this state. Common mistake, saving pennies on upkeep only to have to blow the bank to do a complete remodel later on, or lose the asset as it is ruined. The last Hotel and this one have beautiful architecture and if they did the right things they'd be really popular as wedding and other locations.
