Huge tip for anyone starting a utopia run. Immediately pass "guided voting" and use it to push down the rules section under laws to become captain. Doesn't matter what you have to promise just do it. It erases trust and makes the council unanimously do whatever you say. The game is so MUCH better when you don't have to put up with the council's bs.

when i first played, i chose the faith start, which made the opposite radical faction (Stalwarts and Pilgrims being radical factions) a group called the Evolvers, who are all about adapting to the frost, for example, replacing lost hands with pickaxes, when it came to the fuel option, i chose the Evolver/Pilgrim one just because that means you can use both oil and coal, which as i found in my second playthrough, which failed, is pretty important when there's much easier access to coal than oil

I'm having a very different issue in my first playthrough. See towards the end of part 2 everyone pretty much loved me, of course there is that one faction you can't make happy. Before the big whiteout everything was in surplus, and then apparently all at once before the big storm there was a random massive surge in heat usage at -40f, I had to expand oil pumping, and that still didn't work. Thankfully my food reserves were so high that people were able to not starve through the whiteout. The issue is, everything is failing at the start of chapter three. I'm running out of Oil, coal just isn't working, and I can't get enough cores to use the coal to oil converters, food supply plummeted after the whiteout, and some JERKS are threatening to riot because the Steward hasn't been paying attention to less than 10% of the population. Thankfully my trust can never drop because of my propaganda offices and my religious enforcers because they continue to baptize people in oil, and arrest dissidents throwing them into isolation prisons. Apparently this is the 'equality' path. If this is equality, I hate to see how dark the other paths get.
