I didn't know a G5 could run these recent OS. Supercharging PowerPc based Macs is more fun

I’ve just bought a G4 Mac Mini too! Look forward to that project :-)

Its a 2 ghz PPC g5 with three monitors. MorphOS supports dual monitors with the right GPU, but the ad was pretty vague about what's inside this one. He wants like $125 for the package so I won't complain.

Good luck! Out of interest - is the PPC/MorphOS able to natively run old Amiga binaries? I remember PPC is IBM/Motorola, but unsure if there’s any native back compat to 68k 😎

@@jamesfmackenziegenerally you're able to run 68000 code on powerpc Macs, but i think it may have all been software emulation. maybe I'm wrong?

@@CarcinogenSDA thanks for the reply! I came to the same conclusion too. 68k support is via an emulation layer in MacOS - not supported natively in PPC hardware

Nice. I owned a Mac Pro similar to this one back in about 2012. It worked well but I found that MacOS wasn't as useful as I thought: I spent all my time in Windows and Linux VMs. In the end I sold it, for a fairly handsome price, and bought a pair of SFF PCs which did the same job but cheaper. It was a thing of beauty, though.

I’m tempted to get Linux on there too for a quad boot: Monterey, Mojave, Windows, Ubuntu 😎

@@jamesfmackenzie Linux is a challenge on these Mac's with the EFI boot situation - will say that if you get past that, that Ubuntu's a bit much on these old systems, Pop OS has overtaken Ubuntu in recent years and still runs smooth on my old Core2Quad PC.

@@amirpourghoureiyan1637 thanks for the details! Do you know if opencore helps with the Linux boot? The boot picker is able to detect Windows drives and partitions, but unsure about Linux

@@jamesfmackenzie no worries, I've not seen that method tried before but if it works with Windows and modern day MacOS I think it should be able to see Linux too.

Shame Apple is doing everything they can to hinder secondhand sales and repair/upgrading. It's why I just built hackintoshes for people when I still did that.

100% agree! I’m not really a Mac person but was blown away by how modular and expandable the 5,1 is!
