I am a Bangladeshi 🇧🇩 Here the Current Situation in Bangladesh: Bangladesh gained independence in 1971 after a brutal liberation war. Our freedom fighters, who fought valiantly to free the country from oppressors, are revered as the best sons of our nation. Despite many being illiterate and from rural areas, the government honored their sacrifices by providing them with a monthly stipend of 20,000-40,000 Bangladeshi Taka, free medical treatment, and job quotas. These benefits extend to their children, and we Bangladeshis have accepted this out of deep respect for their sacrifices. However, under the current government led by Sheikh Hasina, many fake freedom fighters have been listed to exploit these benefits. Now, not only children but even grandchildren are using these quotas. This has resulted in only those who actively support the ruling party’s student organization securing government jobs, particularly in the magistracy. This corruption has skewed the job quota system, where 56% of first and second category jobs, and 75% of third and fourth category jobs, are reserved for these beneficiaries. When students attempt to protest peacefully against this corruption, the government labels these protests as anti-government actions. This has led to severe crackdowns, resulting in the deaths of seven students and injuries to 2,000-3,000 more. Protest leaders are being arrested and tortured, and the media faces attacks for reporting the truth. As a video editor for a journal, I aim to document these events through real-time footage.
