I surprised my Dadi after 2 years!

“Dadi has always been my go-to person since childhood. Not that we got to spend a lot of time with her. Living in Mumbai, summer vacations were the only time I’d go to Gujarat & stay with her. Each vacation, she’d make sure that badi mummy made my favourite chole bhature & got me the ripest mangoes. She’d even take my sister & me around the city! When her aching knees refused to match her energy, she’d arrange trips for us with someone in the family. On our last day, she’d slyly slip me a 10 rupee note & give me a knowing nod. I felt like a king whenever I met her. Despite the distance, she never missed a celebration. Be it my birthday or when my results came out, she always sent a gift. She celebrated my victories & consoled me when I didn’t get my way. So, over the years, I made it a habit to stay in touch with her & now, it’s a weekly ritual call. We talk about everything. When I told her that I want to be a photographer, she was delighted! She said, ‘Do what makes you happy!’ Taking her advice, I dived deep into it. In 2 years, I made a name for myself by working 24/7.So, in March, when I finally got a project in Gujarat, I was ecstatic. Dadi stays in Jamnagar with my Kaka - this was my chance to surprise her! I was missing her tight hugs. My sister helped me plan it. Before I boarded the plane, I even blocked my cousin on social media so that the news wouldn’t spill to Dadi. Once my project was over, I was bubbling with excitement. I made my way home & took a deep breath before entering. Her eyesight has grown weak in the last few years, so it took her a moment to realise who I was. Watching her eyes light up, I couldn’t help but laugh. She spoke for an hour - nonstop! Words, memories & joy just poured out of her. But the funniest thing she said was, ‘Koi girlfriend hai toh mujhe mila do, mein sabko mana lungi!’ Those 2 days were a treat. This time, I even got her a saree & she loved it! Dadi wore it the next day & we took a picture together. As I was leaving, she was teary-eyed, but this time, I promised, ‘I’ll come meet you soon.’ It’s such little things that make a world of difference, especially for those who love you more than you can imagine!” Featuring: Vishal & his Dadi

She reminded me of my Nani! She had no son, but only 4 daughters and my mom being the eldest. I'm her eldest grandson and her most lovable grandchild too. She used to live with us almost 8-10 months in a year because she used to live alone at her home after the demise of my Nana in 2003. Sadly she passed away last year, and she took her last breath in my lap❤
