When trying to read a book and eat, get yourself a spring loaded clip to hold the page down. That is what I did till I got an electronic reader

With camera batteries, phone and led flashlights, etc. I wouldn't fool with oil lamps, but I would get a smallish Jackery, Bluetti, etc. battery bank and put out a panel. Some products and lifestyles just complement each other.
