Thx for keepin the 1500s and 1600s alive. You know, we knights used to duel back then to prove our manhood, but instead nowadays we have ...... lawyers. Oi feel emasculated.

Welcome to the LARP family, glad you enjoyed it! Having to check in with the orga beforehand to get your gear approved was something I really didn't expect to hear. Normally I find american LARPs to be less immersive with that kind of stuff, compared to our european scene, and based on a good load of videos I saw over the last decade. And not even here these kind of beforehand checks are made, only thing most orgas check is weapon security at check in and any immersion disrupting things are dealt with when they occur (like throwing some linen over somebodys pink camping tent). Glad to see that some people are trying to step up their game in that regard.

Suggestion from real world "healing" as your bandaging or anything like that, strike minor conversations like where they hurt or even aspects of the character to "keep their mind off the pain" might add a bit of realistic nursing and allow for fun rp chances later.

Funny, I never thought about bugs, when sleeping in a tent, unless one would bit me. If I use little bottles with "healing potion" I always only use pure water, as I want to make sure, no one will react allergically on any possible ingredience, and even if you just pour it on the "wound", it does not leave any stains. And a coloured tape, or a bottle of different shape, would represent the different "potions". And cleaning the bottles afterwards is also easier.

cots? I've reenacted the rev war for 30 years and almost always slept on the ground in the tent. The rule of thumb for reenactments is if you've got modern stuff in your tent, keep it laced up during the day.
@lyney_730111 күн бұрын
I believe it all depends on the LARP. Since LARP isn't as strict as historical reenactment, the general rule of thumb is that if you have modern stuff, it either needs to be disguised or covered up during the day. If you don't want to hide your modern stuff, then they have the lace up rule.

My cousin & some of his family were in SCA (idk if they still are), but if I remember right, it’s a lot more combat focused and intense than LARP, right?
@Wiggles12.229 күн бұрын
@Nienna_Asyare Well, it's LARP, but it's not fantasy. It's also a lot older than the newer LARPs that people do. I'd say it's pretty split between combat and crafts, but that depends on the event you go to.
@Nienna_Asyare9 күн бұрын
@ I had no idea there was any role play or story or lore whatsoever in SCA xD ty! Edit: idk why the @ keeps breaking, apologies!
@Solctise8 күн бұрын
As a Knight in the SCA, I can say there is not really 'fantasy lore' and the stories are about real people and their shenanigans. I love fighting in tournaments, because you have a chance for glory and to cheer on your friends. There are heroes and villains and worthy opponents. None of them are dread lords or elves or dwarves. They are just normal men and women, who for a couple saturdays a month strap on helmets and armour... And say I want to hazard my body on the lists and compete against my friends... And that is only a small facet of the SCA as a whole. It is very real, humblingly human, and at times beautiful the moments we can all share together. Nothing beats sitting around a fire with friends at Pennsic, licking your wounds, drinking a beer, and telling... 'No crap' there I was in the woods all by myself when...
