That's just the minimum wage of a job, most Vietnamese people do 2 or 3 jobs. And they have a home, cook at home, that's more economical. Although Vietnam's spending is very cheap, with 6 dollars, you can't live a full day like that. But I have to admit one thing that Vietnamese people live in happiness. I always see them active and smiling even though they are not rich.
@Minh-oi2ux
@Minh-oi2ux Жыл бұрын
actually majority of people in Vietnam dont make much but the price is very cheap there. So its like with monthly income of 4000$, you can run a normal family in Ha Noi, while it will take much more in other countries.

That was unexpected and funny. People look at translating stuff as if it's magic, but we can see some difficulties. On the other hand, if you've watched a lot of stuff about Vietnamese markets I think 120,000 Dong, you wouldn't starve! Especially if you're buying groceries and not only cooked food. It should but is of course not being observed that persons on Minimum Wage here in Murica aren't going far!

Hi Tom, I discovered your channel and your wife's one just recently and I definitely love your work. However, 6USD / day in a city like Hanoi is quite impossible to be survivable, maybe in the outskirt or countryside like Nam Dinh that will do just fine. But that makes your video quite interesting for even a local like me. And for clarification, you were in Vietnam in April, which has many interesting event, some of them are just national holiday like Reunification Day April 30th - International Workers' Day May 1st, so it is quite normal to see kids participating in afterschool memorial activities because it is our core tradition to honor the heroes.

I'm a newly graduated student and I can easily earn $50 per day just with casual office work (no OT). By no chance, Top Executives earn just more than one hundred per day. That kind of figure I think is more suitable for a senior employee or junior-level manager. The C-level managers here (Vietnamese laborers working for a Vietnamese start-up/enterprise) earn a minimum 300$ per day and can be up to $600 or more. For foreigners working here, the number could be 50% higher to double the amount. I love your videos but I think you should conduct better research before saying something online to a broad users based. Keep up the good work!

A few thing i like to mention, a large portion of the vietnamese population own their house with a smaller set of either worker and student living in rental places, since most vietnamese living in multi-generation household it common for most of us to own a home. Removing rent out of the picture, electricity,water and internet is fairly cheap so it only take up at best 10-12% of your budget. With 6$ to spare a day you can cook a pretty lavish meal for yourself for really cheap, even eating out doesn't cost much. Cost of living here is generally survivable and leave some room for saving, however it still too low for people to live comfortably if they don't already own a home, housing cost here is pretty insane especially in the city, maybe not new york or london insane but still far out of the budget of a average vietnamese.

I couldnt agree more. Most people could work up to 2-3k USD a month but they have to rent a house instead of buying one if they had no family support. Even the government considered that problem was very abnormal and tried to change things but I think it doesnt go anywhere soon. But as a home country, I'm proud to be a citizen of it. We had a long history of being invaded and worked hard to defend ourself (mostly from China, US and France were more recent) and socialist-style market economic model just works almost flawlessly so people just enjoy the life and are happy about it.

As someone from Southeast Asia, I just wanna say thank you for not promoting being a "begpacker" 😅. I've definitely seen few instances where overseas tourists beg for money on the streets. Most people in SE Asia probably earn like a tenth of their income, and poverty and socioeconomic inequality is still probably deeper here than the tourist's origin country. Of course, living costs here are cheaper. But begging money while the locals are probably poorer than you is just in really bad taste in my opinion 🙏🏻

The thing about Vietnam is in a house hold, both parents work. and in big cities most people make more than the minimum wage. So 2 people working can earn around 800-1200USD per month. Thats enough to raise 2 kids and have a kind of decent life.
