i haven't read the mortal instruments but im reading the infernal devices FIRST and yes. its really good. I think the less quality in the mortal instruments also has to do with the fact that it was cassandra clare's debut series I think.

I feel like the more original nature of TID makes it that much better but it’s kinda funny bc you definitely can still see the Harry Potter influences in TID if you look hard enough. I still love the world though!

I absolutely ate up Reckless, was such an easy 5 stars for me. Lauren was open about it being a filler being and I honestly loved that it was because we finally got the development we wanted and it was delicious and the banter top notch! Just wanted to write this so people who haven't read it still give it a try! Personally, there wasn't one thing I didn't like about it but everyone is different.

Same, I really didnt like Reckless at all.. such a waste of the story of what it could have been.. I thought I was the only one out there that didnt like it.. everyone was just jumping for joy for it online as I just sat back quietly thinking there was something wrong with me for hating it.

The infernal Devices is actually peak, i love it so much. The last 3 books of the mortal instruments are much better than the first 3 ( the TID references made them fun).

The Mortal Instruments is a fun storyline but I enjoyed Book 1 and Book 6. I am enjoying the other books in the series in the Shadowhunter so much more. I love that you remember the reading order cause I had to look it up multiple times so I didn't mess it up.

The Shadowhunter books are one of my all-time favorite series, but definitely think they read a ton better back when they were being published in the early 2000s! I can see how people might think they're cringey now, but reading with the context of City of Ashes being written in 2008 might make it a little more bearable 😂❤

I love that you read Summer Fridays!! I just read it too and haven't seen anybody talk about it. I was also conflicted over the main conflict (iykyk) but I loved that the author was able to make me root for them while still feeling iffy about it. It made it feel very real. I watched this video this morning and skipped past the reckless part because i was finishing today. All i knew is my fav des rated reckless a two stars 😅 i knew from the part i was in the book that it was five stars and the ending solidified it as a six just as book one is for me. Was it sad that des didnt enjoy the book as much as me? Of course! But thsts how writing is im glad i got to come back to this when i was finshed :)

I’m so excited for you to read The Infernal Devices! Jace and Clary may not be your favorite couple for obvious reasons, but in The Infernal Devices, the romance eats. Book 2 is my favorite but Cassie Clare is a queen at conclusions books. Won’t lie, I was very nervous for your rating on The Mortal Instruments, but with the way their romance went… solid rating. When you get to the rest of The Mortal Instruments series, I do think you’ll like Izzy more. Part of her growth in the earlier books was really just being kind of unbearable a times. My favorite character from The Mortal Instruments will always be Simon. Do I want to say Clary chose wrong? Maybe not for her, but I’d take Simon any day.

My highest screen time was 16-17 hours. You may think it was a day or two or maybe a week. No, it was for about 3 years when covid hit, and i would sleep 3 hours a day and chat with my friends while listening to my teachers lectures and i would watch like 16 episodes of tvd or teen wolf. And i didn't even feel like it was too much. It was the norm for me those days. And i somehow managed to read +110 books in those years (just physical books without anything playing in the background from my phone).

The mortal instruments series is absolutely annoying at first, and then it slowly grows. I felt this way for both the books and the tv series. The world is amazing in my opinion, very intricate for a YA. And thats what made me stay. Then i moved on to the sister series and now im absolutely 100% into the shadowhunter universe. Keeep going des❤ waiting earnestly for your reviews too. I hope you read the dark artifices too, which is my personal fav.

Im scared to watch because I'm biased when it comes to Shadowhunters. I understand the ick with TMI (when I read them years ago, before the series was even complete, I already knew how the third would end and so it didn't exactly bother me), but I absolutely love how all the little details come together. So even though I for sure agree that The Infernal Devices so much better, I think reading them all in publication order is top tier, just to see it all come together. And maybe it's the blinders I have on, but I genuinely believe that the plot (for a early YA fantasy series) is complex and interesting, and builds so well. I still compare plotlines in newer books to them, because I just want to find something that has the forshadowing that they have, and truthfully it's kinda hard to find.

Its always the wildest thing seeing adults read Cassie Clare and the Mortal Instruments. I read them as they were coming out when I was like 12 and the way I ignored all the problematic stuff and ate up the books especially City of ashes and could recite chapter 9 verbatim. I always want to say that the first trilogy was such a product of its time and is a great example of very early YA!!
