Then i modded the shell on my own (that shell swap was TOUGH but doable!) and i ended up falling in love with it even more. I got a SUPER LIT year end/christmas bonus so i said why not? decided too buy a Legion Go...finally bought it from Micro Center for like $100 bucks off and when i tell you i havent been able to put this thing down yet! Its literally been months of me throwing whatever i can at this device, FF7Remake, Tekken 8, Gran Blue Fantasy: Relink, etc and seeing for far i can push it. I actually decided too continue my GamePass PC subscription well past the trial ending. Not only does Persona 3 Reload looks so beautiful on this screen but it also was free lol. The Steam Deck really is the best overall experience. It's incredibly console-like in that way, even down to the sights and sounds of navigating the UI. You really feel like you're experience a different gaming ecosystem, where the other handhelds are just Windows machines. The only thing holding the Steam Deck back is CPU/GPU performance, but that gives me hope for the Steam Deck 2. If the Steam Deck 2 can launch with a 120Hz+ OLED panel, top-tier GPU/CPU, upgraded cooling to support the more powerful hardware, and larger storage options as standard again, they'll have an instant winner. They don't need to change anything else about the design IMO. Just internal upgrades, another screen refresh, and make sure the cooling can support the hotter hardware.

something i want to point out is that the analog sticks on the Ally aren’t soldered to the PCB so they can easily be switched out with Hall Effect sticks, connected with ribbon cables, which use magnetic input they might feel better and aren’t prone to stick drift. i’ll be switching my right analog with these as the left analog stick is susceptible to interference from the hall effect trigger right behind it which would force you to use a higher deadzone.

I think the Ally and the Legion Go can more closely mimic a pc experience than the Steam Deck (especially when docked), but then why not get a laptop or a desktop. I have a gaming laptop, but for whatever reason, I hate sitting in my chair and gaming on it. I've always loved gaming on handhelds while lying down on the couch or my bed. So I never really used it for gaming unless I was playing an FPS game. I bought a Steamdeck last year and I primarily used that for games, however, it had some serious limitations. A lot of the games in my library didn't run well or at all. So I bought the Legion Go recently and now I've been using it as a PC and handheld gaming console. I like the idea that I can use it like a PC, then unplug it and go game on the couch. Or if I remove the joycons, I can use it like a tablet. I just sold my old Steam Deck to my Bro and ordered the OLED. The many control options made me fall in love with it. I also heavily considered the Legion as well, but many reports on it getting REALLY hot threw me off (heat in one of my personal biggest annoyances with any handheld device), plus the even slightly less so pocketable factor. The Ally and MSI Claw however hardly cross my mind. I need Gyro, I need trackpads. And OLED is also a thing I've grown very attached to. And since I also DO have an actual gaming PC with a 4080 in it, if I ever really need horsepower, streaming from that does the job, especially (but not only) in house.

Emulation is why I replaced my SD with a Legion Go, well that and the bigger screen. The CPU was always its weak point as the gpu would frequently be sitting at near desktop speed while the CPU was at full speed and frequently throttling, even with my JSAUX back with heat plate with 2 big NVME heatsinks on top of that. Plus for me with the LLG, I get all my PC games plus Steam big picture as the gui, as well as the big screen and high refresh rate, with a res that perfectly scales to the SD res and so can play the games with SD optimised settings at SD res but with more performance. I certainly got my moneys worth from the SD, as it was a fun device that showed me it can be done after all these years (AMD netbooks were the last affordable almost gaming handheld PC I tried and that was barely even able to run WoW at the lowest settings at the time), but now the Legion Go is my choice, to the point I gave my SD away as it was gathering dust and I didn't want to see it go to waste. To be honest, as Lenovo have been fixing their issues and how they have been really open about things, my trusty old steam deck would not even get a look in and it wasn't even close, and as good as the OLED one seems, it would be nothing but a downgrade as its still a smaller lower refresh rate screen and noticeable worse performing. The only thing I really miss is the slightly rounded edges to the controller that made it that bit more comfortable, but other than that, going back to even the OLED would be like having a PS5 and then having to go back to the PS4, yeah many of the games would be the same, but it would be a real step backwards on all fronts.

You can also stream games from your gaming PC to your Steam Deck with Steam's built in streaming and third party streaming apps like Moonlight. You can do this with other handhelds too. So effectively your performance ceiling is bound by your most powerful system in-house. I bet this is also a solution to Steam Deck compatibility problems with popular battle royale games. With this in mind, you've equalized all the handhelds in terms of performance and compatibility. At that point, you're looking at which has the better battery life and better user experience. Both of which go to the Steam Deck in this context.

As a Go user, I would totally agree with this. But that is a software issue and Lenovo does seem to be dedicated to supporting the device and have been giving significant updates regularly and have mentioned they will be coming out with a new iteration of hardware. One of my biggest grips is that the lack of support for all the extra buttons on the back. Steam sees the Go as a G1 X controller, won't even map a X button. Very nice video 🔥 But getting to know about pros and cons are making me more confused which one to buy between all the options including a gaming laptop. Switch is underpowered and games are expensive, Steam deck is affordable but have limited game library, Rog Ally drains battery too fast, and Legion Go and Ayaneo Air are too expensive. I think that’s why people buy all of these 😂 But what if you could only choose 1 device on a limited budget?

I really like the look of the Lenovo Legion Go. I am a bigger guy so I think the size/weight would not be an issue outweighing the amount I would like the larger screen. But as much as looking around I find I was trying to justify it with already owning a Steam Deck I think it is better to wait for Handheld 2.0 whoever takes that next round of them.

I have an LCD Steam Deck. I didn't realize how much I cared about battery life until I got Balatro. That game can be played seemingly forever on the deck without a recharge. Not worrying about battery life in the back of my mind has allowed me to become more immersed into the game. Going back to other games that are more battery intensive has a "mehh" feeling attached to it.

GUYS, DISREGARD EVERYTHING THIS GUY SAYS WHEN IT COMES TO STEAM DECK OLED DISPLAY. He purchased the etched screen display (Limited Edition & 1TB both have it) and because of this the contrast & color vibrancy is dull & basically the etched screen looks like someone took a jar of petroleum jelly and smeared it over the screen. UNLESS a review is describing the 512GB model which has the glossy OLED display with none of the above negative effects, please IGNORE anything the etched screen OLED reviewers say when comparing their display to any other displays.

I got the Steam Deck LCD a couple of weeks after Launch and I am in Love with it. There have been weeks (or even months) where I wasn't able to pick it up and play. But when I did my obsession with this device was reignited. Although I really want the OLED Version just because of the screen and the slightly bigger battery, I'm holding off on it because the LCD Version is almost perfect as is. For me personally the resolution on a 7-8 inch screen doesn't matter too much. So 800p or 1080p is not a selling point for me. Yes it objectively looks better but when I'm on the go and gaming on a handheld I really don't care if the screen has a few more ppi or not...

What one would anyone recommend for Guild Wars 2 & Palworld? I don't play any fps. But do enjoy games like: ESO, RDR/RDR2, CP2077, Horizon ZD/FW, Borderlands (all), etc. Just learned about handheld gaming PC's and also not PC/tech savvy, as I've lived out in the middle of nowhere with no internet until last year (now have fiber). And definitely need help.
@JJsTimelapse6 ай бұрын
Check if the SteamDeck can run everything. For ESO for example you need a workaraound to run it, because when starting the game via steam, you only start the launcher from where you launch the game itself. Might be the case for GW2 as well. The ROG and the Legion Go however are portable windows pcs. If a game runs on windows, it runs on these devices.
@tapo94786 ай бұрын
Guild Wars 2 runs fine on the Steam Deck. If you have an account from before GW2 was on Steam you can pass in a simple command to use your old login. I haven't played Palworld on it yet but its apparently playable with frame drops. That's going to be the case for a lot of UE5 titles running on these handhelds. I've played ESO on it as well and it works great, but you need to do the initial install from desktop mode since it takes you through that installer. RDR2/CP2077/Horizon/Borderlands all run well without issues.
@mt.libertybell92506 ай бұрын
I haven’t played Palworld in a bit, but it was running fine till an update then it started crashing 15 min into every session. It could be fixed now. GW 2 is very doable as well if you set up action sets for your skills. For example when I hold L1, R1 becomes 1, and my Abxy buttons become 2345; And when I hold R1, L1 becomes 6, and abxy buttons become 7890. I love how anything is playable if you know how to map it

I had an OG deck and enjoyed it with the built in steam experience. Finished Hogwarts Legacy on it and thoroughly enjoyed it. When the Ally released I sold my deck and bought that. Didn’t regret it whatsoever, it’s a beast and the built in windows made it much easier for me to run other game launchers. Also on the deck you literally couldn’t play fifa with the anti cheat, soon as I got the Ally it booted right up. Things may be different now in the market with updates etc but for me, the Ally is king

Missed the most important monitor stat though, and that would bring the LCD Steam Deck to first place if the competition was lacking. How dim do they get? (and how seamless is this to adjust). Honestly, to me this is the most important of all the monitor features you listed. It probably isn't to most people. So my "most important" is subjective. And idk if there's a good way to give it as a stat, but even to just describe it. I have heard the LED Steam Deck is even better for dimming. I have no idea about the others though. Really great and articulate review! Just hoping to raise awareness to the importance of minimum brightness, that I never see marketed, and do not see reviewed enough.

Your scoring seems a bit biased to me 😅 You should give max points were it’s due… like repairability on the Deck seems basically perfect Or how come the OLED and LCD variants get the same performance score when the OLED proves to be 10% faster on avg and has by far the best 1% and 0,1% fps dips… Edit: Why do the Ally and Legion get so close scoring wise in terms of software, when they use W10 (which is bad to put it kindly) and Valve made the effort for a fully customized software and it’s basically not really better when one looks at your scoring. You also keep using conjunctions in regards of the Deck 😅 it’s not like it can be more efficient it IS more efficient in every case, or that the lower resolution can help in that regard… that’s wrong again, conjunction is misleading in this because it DOES, not can. Conjunctions really matter imo. You can play AAA twice as much on a Deck compared the other ones.. If a handheld can’t even manage 2h, it’s not really portable. And if max graphics and performance is the most important thing, a small gaming notebook would probably be a much better choice in 2024… Handhelds will catch up in 2 years or so, the priorities should make sense in the time we live given the capabilities we have technology wise. Very nice video in terms of quality. But your testing methodology and scoring decisions need quite some tuning… I know the Decks are being hyped the most, but perhaps there is a solid foundation of reasoning behind that and you should show more graphs to show the difference rather than just a subjective scoring alone. Those were my 2 cents of constructive criticism to a content creator I just stumbled upon ^^ Thumbs up anyway, you can tell how much effort went into this. Cheers 😊

The deck is more straightforward, but since i only use it at home, i like the extra power the rog ally gives! Battery isn’t really a problem in that case. (I own both the lcd deck and the rog ally) at the end of the day you can’t go wrong with any off them! And thats the beauty of it.
