I lived in Alice Spings for 6 years and i lost count how many times i got broken into, car stolen & assaulted. I left late 2021 after i was charged with assault for fighting off 3 intruders whole had broken into my house through my daugther's window. During the fight i was stabbed 4 times. I was labelled a "danger to society" by the prosecution due to my military history & the intruders were asking for a huge payout for "emotional damage & ongoing suffering". Thankfully ended up going nowhere in court & didn't even make the locals news or paper. I feel sorry for anyone living there now.

then perhaps they need to startup a program to take these kids out bush to teach them how hunt and fish. but it'll be hard to get the kids involved when social media and modern culture glorifies gang like behavior. and i think we also need cultural programs to show our future generations our culture and our way of life.

@@seaturtleman exactly. These kids need programs and funding to mentor them into finding outlets for their energy. They need strong indigenous role models to show them what they can achieve if they put their minds to it. They’re so much more than they’re given credit for. And we all know what happens when kids feel like life is worthless and there’s no point. They were born behind the 8 ball because of what we have done to their country and their communities, and now we crack it when they feel hopeless and use destruction and rebellion to take their frustrations and sadness out. It’s not these kids fault. They need love and support instead we lock them up. It’s sickening.

Yeah, there just slapped on the wrist in Australia, especially in schools when theses buffoons start harassing kids at school mainly white kids due to their parents teaching them reverse racism. While working and living in Sydney, I read about German backpackers that had been assaulted and almost died in Alice Springs. Among other things, it was written in the article that had these German youths died the whole worlds eyes would have been on Australia and it would have had a very negative impact on Oz and it's tourism. A couple of months later I quit my job and traveled all over Oz. When I was in Alice Springs people were warning me to stay away from the city center because of the dangerous gangs. I was extremely privileged to be able to attend a prestigious high school in Sydney for 2 years, until my parents could no longer afford to send me. This particular school has a special indigenous scholarship in place where every year, a group of indigenous children are fully funded to attend and board at the school. We are talking approximately $50k/pa to attend. The result. Sadly only around 1-2 aboriginals of the scholarship complete year 12. That's around an 80-90% drop out rate. The next question is why? Having attended the school, and staying in touch with many students and teachers, as well as now having a tertiary education and working in an industry where I see the juxtaposition of our cultures, I have come to my own conclusion. I will preface this by stating, that so many of the aboriginal people I have met over the years and went to school with are, at their very core, lovely people. However, their culture is very different to most Australian western and eastern cultures. They value things in a different order to that which we do, and as such, the result is what we see here. Their nomadicy engrained in their culutre, along with beliefs such as 'no ownership', means that they do not have the same levels of respect for physical property as many other cultures. They also tend to not commit themselves to long ventures such as education, and have no gravity for the perceived value of said education. Yes, these are generalisations. No, it isn't every single person of indigenous descent. Please don't get all worked up about this comment, it is purely an opinion that has been formed from generalisations that are based upon fact. The big question, what can we do to fix the issue? I think we all have our own ideas, but agreeing upon the best course of action is the hardest part. All I know is that left unchecked, it will only get worse...
@fishmanc5357
@fishmanc5357 Жыл бұрын
Nah you're 100% correct. If you don't own where you live and neither did your parents and see no way to get ownership or even know how to then you're going to be bored and you need a way to expell that energy. It is what happened in the US and UK over the last few decades. There are programmes put in place to help the young boys BUILD something for themselves... but they need to be lead by their community chiefs. They need money. People like Snoop Dogg had the resource to do it and to bridge the gap with the local government. Once the youth see they can actually achieve something they will change. It won't eradicate the problems but it is the beginning. The youth from 20 years ago that were running around mad are now grown adult tax payers... eventually people see the error in their ways.

@@SmedleyButler1881 you're wrong on this buddy. Native people do understand ownership and have for thousands of years before so called Europeans showed up. I think you are mistaking personal belongings with the concept that the earth is not owned by man, but God (whatever that is). We are talking about modern people now, in modern times. There are people from all places that struggle in the modern world to maintain ownership. Whilst it is a cultural thing, it is truly because of bad habits being passed down. Understand the concept of 'rich dad, poor dad'. Understand that the wealthy pass down their wealth to their children. The struggling pass down their struggle. It's the same way in the UK, where I am, that many Asian families seek opportunity here. They build together. The Jewish communities do the same. Whereas generally, Christian communities are almost non existent. Hence the lost woke communities that we see. And those who have lost all cultural tradition such as many Native communities across the world who have been 'westernised' are now lost. The traditions are gone, the community is gone. The leadership is gone. The children are lost.

At this age, (Mid teens), I realised that every single time I did something stupid, illegal or just plain morally wrong - I felt a very short, shocking pain to different areas of my body. Sometimes it was dealt from my parents and sometimes from school teachers. I soon learned the lesson that the easiest way to stop the pain, was to stop doing stupid things. Good guidance and fair discipline from parents and school teachers is the only thing which will fix these problems. Softly softly police tactics and the revolving door judicial system are useless and becoming worse every day. How bad will the next generation of kids be if these type of thugs are the ones responsible for their up-bringing? This needs fixing NOW before their future is beyond repair. Thanks for bringing this to light Avi.

The Alice is just a current example of a decades old problem in Aboriginal society. The violence, anger and hatred is generational and change can only come from the Elders. We stayed out of town. There is no accountability from the parents or the police. If a white person broke into a home bashed an older person robbed them stole their car and money you would get serious jail time. Policing is extremely soft these days when it comes to youth crime and particularly indigenous crime. The politics surrounding it all has gotten to the point that Government and law enforcement are more scared of being called 'racist' or being accused or prejudiced behaviour than they are of the repercussions of doing nothing about it. Sometimes there just isn't an easy way of achieving safety and security for the general public and leaders need to be brave enough to make the hard choices that need to be made and stand strong in the face of criticism and adversity while doing what needs to be done.

@@andydavis453 .... That is correct to a point however the Police reply heavily on the inherent fear that people have in regard to when the Police take an interest in them. When they are up against people who could not care less about being imprisoned or fined the Police become pretty well neutered, as they are used to instant and total obedience. When people say that the authorities should be tougher on the teens and others who offend, that just becomes part of the cycle as they are used to being treated roughly and so is not anything that is new or frightening to them. The Governments do not really care and seem to believe that throwing money at the problem will solve it, but the big trick is to work out how to prevent the behaviour happening in the first place, and that ( in my opinion) means getting rid of boredom, gang culture, and knowing that you do not have to work in order to pay a mortgage or to maintain the house that you live in because someone will magically appear to fix it when it gets damaged..... And I do not have the answers..

It’s sad that this isn’t just Alice Springs, alot of small towns. I was in Grafton last year and how no idea what I was signing up for. Just hanging with some mates for some water skiing, got split up at a pub, just my mate and I walking to a dirby to catch up with the others who left the pub and we both ended up getting a knife pulled on us and jumped by a pack of 8 that jumped out of a wagon. Wallet and phone gone, hit from behind and bashed on the ground and police did absolutely nothing. Found my phone that was chucked in a bush few blocks down the next day and police said they’ll take the phone and run finger prints and the police ended up losing my phone themselves at the police station. Absolute useless, just pretending that they’re doing something while doing nothing.

I think one of the issues is they're not seeing.m "juvie" as a threat. They say it's boring. Which is also the same description they gave of their own homes. For some of them, sadly, their homes are probably actually a worse place than juvie, so they may feel it's even a reward to get caught doing stuff. The solution of course is to make juvie something they describe as "shit" or "horrible" instead of just boring. Tasteless food, only water to drink, solitary confinement, no TVs or radios or electronics of any sort. Have the lights on a schedule, and play loud announcements to wake them up at the start of the day. 20 minutes exercise time is the only time they see the sky. Cruel? I don't think it's particularly cruel. A little, but not really... Not compared to the cruelty of having your car stolen and/or smashed up by kids. Not as cruel as your business going bankrupt because these youths think they can just smash your windows and take anything they want. Not as cruel as what happens when they break into the wrong house or attack the wrong person and they fight back.
