KZbin never puts Potato's videos in order and it's really annoying. Episode 7 of a series will queued up after Episode 2, for example. Can be tricky finding the right video.

I like the idea that this series will last for 100 1-hour Episodes, especially since the first two episodes together covered about 70 turns, which means he would then slow down dramatically, at about 4 turns per episode. Like, in the late-game when he gets 20 cities and 500 units, he goes into incredible detail about the movement of each one, using multiple quick saves to explore each combination of possibilities. The paths diverge so much he ends up accidentally getting a tourism and diplomatic victory instead of the faith/science main campaign. @Patrick Maurer most of the chopping praise is much like in every video, scattered about but very passionate, except for one video which actually lasts for 2 hours instead of one, in which he goes into every quicksave and demonstrates the different (and always better) timeline using chops as opposed to building lumber mills. It ends up being his most popular by far, generating multiple spin-off episodes and its own dedicated series

It's funny he puts so much emphasis into talking about military strength at the start. I was just playing a game last night as japan where I largely ignored military and kept good relations with both civs to my east and west. Suddenly, 100 turns into a quick game, they both declare surprise war on me and march armies into my borders, while I had like 3 units to my name and very few encampments. I managed to fight them off, but only because i was playing on prince since I'm relatively new still. I concluded the AI must have seen me as easy pickings, and Potato confirmed it here.
@VicPaganiTTV
@VicPaganiTTV 4 жыл бұрын
Well, just so you have some reference, on Deity, there's some games where the AI instantly throws 5 warriors on your borders. Like, you're literally finishing your first scout and when you're unlucky enough to get found by a militaristic civ with an annoying agenda, he instantly throws all his stuff at you and it's basically restart.
@jbwhangarei4549

And on Deity the AI boost to production and technology advances is I believe either 80% or 100% the normal (prince) so especially on deity it’s important to focus on military unless you get some miracle spawn and have a whole continent to yourself

My main takeaway from this is that I don't expand anywhere near as quickly as I should. I probably upgrade my cities more than necessary, especially because I prioritise the holy site more than I should. I also never harvest resources and I don't need to be afraid to use resources like stone, which ultimately don't do much for me. Cheers for the guide!

You know, when you end your turn and the game is processing the AI, there is this little gossip info bar that appears in the right top corner. I noticed that you never drop it down to see what the other AI is doing. It's very handy cause it's talking about the interaction they have with other players that you haven't met yet. So now you know who is there or what they have accomplished. Just before you met Eleanor Of Aquitaine, we could see that she got warned by somebody for interfering with their agenda. Don't know if you knew this or cared about it, just thought to share it. Anyway love your content, always nice to hear your thought process. Looking forward to the next. Spuddy out.

@PotatoMcWhiskey 1 GPT over 30 turns is valued at about 20 gold on standard speed. There is usually some slight rounding, but 20*GPT has consistently been within 10 gold of actual acceptable lump sum gold.

1:16:00 Lady of Marshed is very funny pantheon. I like to get it relatively early, when have 1-2 towns, and one of them has 3+ marsh tiles. Usually this town has no production , but has some grass and marsh. So this Pantheon is reviving, its very early and very big investment. Your case is pretty bad for Lady: 1. Its not yearly, you cant work alot of it, because without aqueduct city is very poor about housing. 2. Boats pantheon is very handsome by making water tiles very balanced about yelds, and your empire going to have alot of coast. But eventually its best pantheon in your case: 1) There are big swamp to the south-east, near blue warriors. So its great invesment if you will settle there. 2) Production is more expencive than faith or gold, so its yelds are more valuable

When calculating diplomacy favor selling for gold. I multiply my gold per turn by 20. Then go up or down as needed. It is closer to 2/3rds

Also, actually you can tell that the Phoenicians are in this game before you meet them: Normally the country color of Rome should be purple & gold, but in this game they took a brownish color, which means some other civ is color-coded purple. And Phoenicia is usually purple in civ 6. (the word "Phoeni" means purple, Phoenicians IRL were famous for their purple dyes.) Edit: There are some rare cases when both Rome and Phoenicians are in the same game and both are color-coded purple, but normally there should be only one purple.

What I really like about the Urban Planning card is how much it boosts production in freshly-settled cities. +1 production quickly becomes less and less relevant in the capital, which should have 7+ production by the time you're spamming settlers, but a 1 population city that's focusing on food for growth can easily have only 1-2 production, which means Urban planning can double the starting production toward a monument or granary. The more low-production cities you have, the better the card is in relative terms. it's not hard to imagine early-game scenarios where it gives you +30% production to the total production in your empire, which stacks with cards like Settlers, Ilkum or Agoge.

yes it might seem better relatively speaking, but +1 production per city, is still +1 production, and it adds up --- quickly adds up the more cities you have.

I learned yesterday that trade routes also add one level of visibility and that you get combat bonuses for every level of visibility that you have with another civilization. So with a delegation and a trade route to Rome, you upped your visibility two levels and effectively upped your combat strength against them.

Don't your trade routes cancel when you declare war on your trade partner?
@benjaminscribner2466

They can, unless you have trader immunity from a golden age dedication. But having a trading post established in another civilization’s city also adds another level of visibility which gives you the combat bonus. This is why Catherine Medici is always kicking my butt in the early game. Also, I just realized that delegations cancel out during war sooo... scratch that strategy.

My favorite play in Civ 6 atm is to go for a faith generator, like earth godess, and then go for the ability of the palace that allows for buying units with faith. It gets really fun and more so when I choose exodus of the evangelists when that is available.

There is another point to be made about the pantheon choice. You said earlier in the episode something like stronger cities should help the weaker cities and that money (or resources) now is better than later. Choosing pantheon for reeds and marshes over fishing boats checks both boxes.

Here I am guys. 6 years too late. I have had vanilla gathering dust ...not storm...badumpch. Fired it up a few weeks back and now I am rehooked on civ. All these vids are gold to me ....and production. LOving it. I even slow it down to get the micro tips and enjoy potato sounding like a drunk post pub. These vids are great. Will also watch the Rome one and many more. I prefer this guy to others. Some are too loud, too annoying or just plain rude.
