Cool conversion. Not necessarily new, back I. The day there were a number of ‘69er bikes. I think trek actually had an official model.

You are correct! Trek was ahead if their time. I wish I could find one of those things.

Great video mate! Unfortunately came across this a tad too late.. just turned my Nomad v5 into a mullet last night but instead of getting a shorter fork we went with a 180mm dominion for a 29er.. so far it felt good but I have not tested it on the trails yet, after viewing your vid I think its gonna be a challenge to climb uphill 😂😂😂

A year late, but I am so happy I came across this video... I'm currently in the blueprint phase of converting my old Nomad 1 into a 26" mullet and I'm also thinking about my next bike build. I was thinking between a Bronson or Megatower, but after watching this why not do another Nomad mullet :)... Thanks!

I’m glad you liked it! Thank you for the watch.

You have a Stig! I've only owned 27.5 bikes but I did demo a Sentinel. I liked how it held the line in corners but as soon as I got back on my bike I was happy to be on 27.5 again. Currently riding a Banshee Rune V3. I have toyed with the idea to try it mullet, since I'm going to buy a 29er fork and wheels for my hardtail anyway. I'm not interested in going faster, just lookin for that special feeling. That extra something.

The Mullet definitely brings the fun and excitement back into it that a full 29er can tend to drown out. It just all depends on what puts a smile on your face.

Now we need a non modified nomad for comparison 🤔

I have ridden the nomad in its normal state. Did you have any specific questions about it?

@@RideEatWander nope, i just wanna see the time on the board 👍 lol.

I’m gonna work on getting some legacy bikes on the bord👍

I have a trek remedy and I love the 27.5 playfullness. The fast rolling front and playfull snappy rear really are very tempting and I can't get the thought out of my head anymore. My bike has 160mm front and 150 back and I'm thinking to use a 150mm fork with less offset (44mm). I really looked for all the numbers and measurements but there's still a voice in my head saying engineers over at Trek worked way to hard for me to 'ruin' the geometry. I really wanna do this haha. Any thoughts?

I have altered in some way every bike that I have owned. Large companies or even any bike company have to back and be behind the products they sell. They will never admit that be tweaking their set up that you have all of a sudden made “their” bike better. It ultimately comes down to the end user and realizing what they\you want. Trek has adopted the Flip chip pretty far back as I can remember which is a way to alter geometry. They have designed bikes to work with a certain window to please the widest amount of customers. Racers or strong bike enthusiasts definitely fit outside that net and always like tinkering. I say do what feels right and see if you can find what you are searching for.

Did the geometry change a lot with the 160? How was the reach and bb height? Low or high setting?
@RideEatWander4 жыл бұрын
In this situation it will be a tad more slack. But if you use let’s say a rock shot fork that has a shorter axle to crown it could be closer to a wash and keeps everything else the same. Setting was in high.

Nice content! I'm on the dilemma for mullet nomad, i have a 42m offset rockshox lyrik ultimate with 150mm of travel. Will the 2018 nomad be too slack if I put my lyrik with 29er wheels and 160mm of travel? Or should I just put 150mm travel with 29er wheel? Thank you so much!
@RideEatWander3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! At 160mm of travel and a 29er wheel it will feel closer to normal nomad with a 180mm fork on it in terms of steering feel but still have the efficiency of a 160mm fork. The 150mm fork felt the closest in handling feel to a stock nomad. It would definitely be worth experimenting with both to see if you like one or the other.
@noobiemtb60813 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! Definitely experimenting would be the best. Just one more question, i know that you have the 2018 hightower LT before. Did you tried mullet on that? I currently have the OG HTLT and plabning to get a nomad frame. But i haven't seen any people doing mullet for the OG HTLT. Thanks!
@RideEatWander3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t do the mullet. The mullet was a test my buddy was doing and helped him along with different ideas. I am ok with a full 29er but he’s a little shorter. We also found that a 27.5 bike makes a better base to try mullet vs 29er

Will the 170mm fork work with 29er?
@RideEatWander3 жыл бұрын
It sure can. You just have to make sure you don’t slacken the geometry out too much with the longer you go.
@RideEatWander3 жыл бұрын
Unless you meant the stock 170mm fork for the nomad. In that case no it won’t. At least not with any aggressive trail or enduro tire available. Possible a smaller profiled tire yes.
@isaiahthornton57463 жыл бұрын
I mean like a new 29er fork so the wheel fits but still 170 travel since that’s the original size for that bike.
@RideEatWander3 жыл бұрын
Yes it will fit but it will slacken the bike out more by around a degree depending on how big of tire you use. Which is fine. People put 180mm forks on the Nomad all the time. I would rather have the larger wheel base extra travel.
@gorkagoenaga11584 жыл бұрын
Can you tell me what head tube angle is with 29" wheels?
@RideEatWander4 жыл бұрын
In this configuration you will be looking at +-65 degrees. If you changed travel 10mm in either direction estimate about a degree of difference.
