Here is a fun one about shorting biotechs. Biogen (BIIB) was going into FDA approval 1 year ago for a treatment for Alzheimer. 13 out of the 13 scientists in the council voted against the approval of the treatment, and it was approved anyway ; the stock went up 70% that day, 3 of the voters resigned within the next week, and of course I was short prior to the announcement and got away with around 50% loss. Then a doctor friend of mine (who doesn't trade) told me to double my short position and I didn't listen. The stock now trades lower than my initial cost basis and 50% down my exit price (when the friend told me to double my short). In essence when trading biotech, you are playing against a corrupted organization who doesn't listen to the scientific advice they pay for, and force into resignation people who have dedicated their careers to the safety of their patients. Even when you are right you lose. Shkreli did blow 2 funds trading this strategy, meaning even compounding returns for years you will still be at risk of blowing it up in the next minutes.

How about this trade idea Ben: Instead of shorting individual biotech stocks based on their clinical trials, why not short the XBI, the biotech etf? Look at all 161 tickers and when the dates are for their trial release days. If there is a week where lots of trial results are released, short the etf. @@jaminga123 so certain companies basically have potential to come to the market as soon as their brand name is waved off. They still have to file for generic equivalency with the FDA so the other manufactures for example Cipla, Mylan, auribindo etc. Can apply for it as soon as there rights on brand expire. Symbicort generic was first made by prasco, then hikma/akron made one slight cheaper but most insurance may cover prasco but don't cover the other yet. Chantix went generic but it's not too widely accepted yet. But slowly increasing
@joshuawebb50042 жыл бұрын
@@jaminga123 Another pharmabro passing through. Bristoll-Myer Squibb and Janssen own exclusive rights to manufacture and sell Eliquis and Xarelto, respectively, to wholesalers. These wholesalers get a contracted discount to buy from the companies directly. This discount is also offered to pharmacy benefits managers (PBMs) who determine the max amount an insurance company will pay for the medications. Once a generic is introduced, it undercuts these discounts and makes it more favorable for PBMs to pay for the generics, while also cutting a deal with the generic manufacturer to discount the price even further. This process generally takes a couple of years (e.g. Symbicort) but once it happens, all of the money being made by brand manufacturers shifts. An additional benefit of these medications, specifically, is that compared to the alternative (warfarin) they are much safer due to a much more predictable mechanism. Very likely, once a generic comes out, therapy guidelines will reflect the affordability of these medications, further increasing demand.

And all the tech they need to run is so expensive they’re burning tens of millions every year to keep expanding, like I genuinely cannot see how this company could possibly be succeeding if it wasn’t a billionaires’ startup.

@@AmadeoFacebook I naked shorted an overly large amount of calls. The friday they were set to expire, instead of buying back the losing short, I let it trigger, thinking the stock would go down Monday. It did not. The size of the short turned out to be wildly inappropriately large for my account. Stock did 300 % more after.

I believe investors should focus on under-the-radar stocks, especially given the present rollercoaster nature of the stock market. 35% of my $270,000 portfolio consists of collapsing stocks that were previously respected, and I don't know where to go from here.

To tackle investment risks, the safest approach is to diversify across various asset classes, such as bonds, real estate, and international stocks, to minimize the impact of a market meltdown. Seeking expert guidance is essential.

It's sad how difficult things have become in the present generation. I was wondering how to utilise some money I had. I used some of it for e-commerce business, but that sank. I'm thinking of how to use what's left to invest, but I don't really know which way to go.

It's a good idea to seek advice at the moment, unless you're an expert yourself. As someone who runs a service business and sells products on eBay, I can tell you that the economy is struggling and many people are struggling financially.

Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.

Given the potential heart rhythm issues with ondansetron I would be really worried about a use that isn't just "take this for two days while you get over food poisoning" or dosing someone up before chemotherapy... and this is why biotech investing is tough. If you're not a doctor there's stuff that you could never possibly know about, I happen to know about that one from another youtube video, most people wouldn't. Even if it shows a promising effect on alcohol it would face a hard path to FDA approval given they already don't like it and have considered pulling it for use in non-emergent nausea (as in "it's not going to kill you").

It's higher winrate to short after the gap down when dip buyers are finished. This way you aren't gambling but are using high statistical likelihood of a fade. Also the chances of blowing up are much rarer since after trial fail it takes many months for a resubmission.

Could I possibly maybe somehow take the drugs myself to test if they work with myself as sample? If you can't buy them you just gotta synthesise them, can't be that hard right? I have made my own moonshine before, wouldn't be that much different right? And testing on yourself would be way faster then those big scientific tests with thousands of people. This way you probably could maybe if you're lucky predict the outcome of the clinical trial.

@Gerald Maier I agree, I've been in constant touch with a Financial Analyst for approximately 8 months. You know, these days it's really easy to buy into trending stocks, but the task is determining when to sell or keep. That's where my manager comes in, to help me with entry and exit points in the industries I'm engaged in. Can’t say I regret it, I’m 40% up in profits just in 5months with my initial capital of $160k..
