As a PhD in biochemistry I'm still just very confused by the molecular interaction they claim. Bond builders are easy to understand, the disulphide bond is a weak interaction which can actually be "fixed" by external treatment, but repairing a rupture in an actual covalent bond without a chemical reaction just by supporting it with a peptide? No enzyme? I don't know.. I need some more clarification! Not saying that it doesn't work or anything I just think what they claim it does is a bit far fetched...

@@RekaRoams that would’ve been my suspicion as well, that it’s not repairing the existing bond but rather bonding to fill in the gap, i.e. they’ve figured out what damage looks like on a molecular level and have formulated a specific blend of short chain peptides with specific ends to create a chemical bond in an exothermic reaction as water evaporates

I discovered K18 about six months ago (before any hype.) I've been coloring my hair with box dye for years. (I know...I know) transitioning from black to dark brown to cover my gray. I absolutely love K18! I can see a difference - my curls are more defined and less frizzy. I did years of damage and since I discovered this channel I've also started using Curlsmith Bonding curl salve. Between these two products, my hair has vastly improved. It feels smoother and it's stronger. Also never used to use a clarifying shampoo before...also makes a world of difference. I (and my hair) thank you Mell, for these "curl school" valuable lessons.

I have been using this after bleaching my 3a curls and had great results after one use - thick bouncy curl definition! I hadnt realised i had to use it the following 6 washes. It makes sense, because after the 3rd wash, my curls were stringy and not defined. I was only using k18 once a month. I was introduced to this product in the salon and purchased the 15ml to try it. It may be small, but it still goes a long way. I will be restarting my treatment and applying it up to 6 washes. Thankyou! Hey Mel, I’m a “curl friend” who has used K18 many times. I definitely appreciate a beautiful difference in frizz and shine after using it as directed. I am still coloring my hair to help blend my silvers, (ain’t booked that young Jack Martin appointment yet! 😂), so K18 stays in my rotation. I love the simplicity of using it AFTER my shower, versus Olaplex which I had to leave in and then wait before showering. I still use my Olaplex No. 7, though. Love your channel, Mel! 😘

So I relaxed ( at home) my hair after years of being natural. My hair was very healthy but, it definitely was brittle after relaxing- no elasticity and some breakage. I am on my first month of k18 and I have seen a lot of improvement. My hair looks /feels comparable to my natural hair straightened - blow out only no flat ironing. It’s kind of a game changer. I have no damage shedding. The strands that shed normally are stronger. So idk if you are really putting your hair through it, it’s worth the protection. I haven’t gone back to Olaplex but I might alternate for a bit and see how it goes.

My hair is a lot like yours before I relaxed it, I really didn’t know how to take care of my hair and when I would talk to a salon after a cut, they are not helpful and sold me useless products. I’m 33 and have never been happy with my hair. K18 was the first product I used that made me cry, I have never been able to put my hair down without it looking crazy and dry! It’s day two of me wearing my hair down and people might not understand but I’ve been wearing a bun for years and I’m starting to thin in areas because my hair is being pulled constantly. K18 really changed my life and I finally have silky soft hair that moves and bounces! I still have a lot to heal so I’m excited for my next wash, but if I don’t get better results I will still be very happy that I can have my hair down

K18 is legit! I never had a product like it before, I was literally able to lighten my permed/highlighted/color treated hair to platinum blonde in one session and my hair felt like glass! It was so soft and so strong I was blown away. I legit had no breakage and I was shocked by that because even with Olaplex I would always have some type of breakage but with k18 I didn’t. I will not ever stop buying this product. IMO there is nothing out there that can do what k18 does. Biomimetics is there future of haircare. 💜

I received a free sample of this a few months ago. I tried it, but there wasn't enough for the 6 washes, so I ended up purchasing one. I really didn't see any difference in the health of my hair. I don't bleach or dye my hair, but I do heat style it occasionally. When I do, I use at least 3 different kinds of heat protection, so I suppose there really isn't much damage. It is definitely true, if your hair is healthy, this isn't going to do you much good. Just leave it for for those who do need it and spend your money elsewhere.

I've been using Olaplex for several years and bit the bullet on K18. I haven't ever felt such a difference in my hair as I did after using k18 for the recommend 4-6 washes. I get highlights and was used to having the ends of my hair feel rough and dry and also would get breakage, but not after k18. I still use Olaplex from time to time, mostly bc I have a stockpile, but if I had to choose one it would be the K18. It is expensive, but it's just one product, whereas I have all the at-home Olaplex products and they really add up. I am sure we will see K18 adding to their product lineup as well, but the results on my hair with just the 4 minute mask speak for themselves.

Thank you, Mell, for your video. My hair is curly, coloured, thick, and dry and was significantly damaged (fired) by the sun, sea, and hair products. I was frustrated. Cutting most of the damaged hair didn't help; the damage continued like a virus. So I decided to buy the K18 and use it for approximately 1 year. I saw some improvement, the newly growing hair was more resistant. But K18 is very expensive and took too long, so I combined it with Olaplex (No.0 - No. 8) by using the K18 weekly. But the big changer for me was the Multi-Peptides from The Ordinary. I've been using it for over 2 months, but I'm still using Olaplex and K18 (biweekly - in the salon after dyeing and 2 weeks later at home). It is crazy to see how much has improved since I added this final product. A top to bottom cure :D. I'm now going back, slowly, to regular shampoos and conditioners to reduce the use of Olaplex products and keep No.6-9 or No.8-9 ones and the K18 in my routines. I hope this will work ;)

@@sherihays4559 thank you for asking. For regular shampoos and conditioners, I meant Pantene. I have been using it ever and without complaint, except for the Pink colour series. I don't remember what it is for, but I skip it whenever I see the Pink Pantenes. This series dries my hair, so it is a No-No for me. But because I also get bored of the same product and smell, I'm now trying Pureology (Dry hair - violet) shampoo and condition and I❤it. It smells so good, and my hair is very soft. The bad thing is that is expensive and I like to wash my hair daily or every two days, so I switch them depending on my mood. I'm afraid I cannot stick to only one brand, but Pantene for sure will always remain on my list as a good friend for my curly hair😉

I’m not curly but I’ve had a good experience using this to product for about a year and a half now. I dye, tone and bleach my hair at home. I find K18 works best when applied directly after shampooing out bleach or rinsing out color, towel drying before applying. When apply it when my cuticle is open from color processing, it has a dramatic result. When I apply it just after using clarifying shampoo, no matter how heavy duty that clarifying treatment is, it’s kind of meh. It’s a game changer for my color processing routine.

THIS is the info im searching for! As a stylist… i want to know how it works / is it worth it vs olaplex during the color process. Not so worried about home mask treatment
@KittenCasserole2 жыл бұрын
@@chenelled6086 I’m glad you find my experience helpful. I actually use K18 first, right after rinsing/shampooing out and towel drying. I give it the full 4 minutes to work. Then I don’t rinse, keep K18 in and apply Olaplex No 2. (Olaplex No 3 would work if you don’t have access to No 2) I let it sit for 15-45 minutes, since I’m doing this at home and time isn’t money. I shampoo out the K18/Olaplex mask after 45 minutes. Then I condition. I find the combination of K18 & Olaplex No 2/No 3 makes it that if my hair isn’t 90% recovered from the color process, it’s 100%. Either near-like nothing happened or totally like nothing happened. But this is how I treat my own hair at home, I don’t know if that would be feasible for clients in-salon.

I did get balayage for my hair and as I have long to extra long hair, the hair stylist recommended using K18. Just as you said: I put enough money on my hair and I didn’t want to pinch there. First impression was that my hair was really easy to comb through and the stylist used straightening iron to style after the blonding. My hair felt good. After first shampooing home, I could feel the damage on the ends of my hair. They were really macaroni like. So used the K18 I bought to take with me home: 1. Use did recover some of the texture. After 4. I would say it’s almost as good as my roots, which only have shade, not colored. Of course it’s not a miracle tool, however, it did help with the damage by reducing the brittleness of the ends. One thing my stylist recommended was to wait that 4 min and then apply my own leave in conditioner. So that might be something different. So I would recommend it if you have mix of wavy to curly nordic type fine hair and the water pH is soft (we can drink tap water here). So depending of all the different things (type of hair, treatment, pH, etc) I would recommend to try it out.

Honestly I’ve used and own both professional olaplex 1 and 2 and also the professional k18 mist plus the at home products on my extremely bleach damaged hair. Olaplex does absolutely nothing at all to help reduce breakage or repair TRULY damaged bleached hair. Whatever smoothing it does shampoos right out and I’ve also never noticed any damage prevention. K18 on the other hand does help reduce breakage and the effects are longer lasting for me than olaplex. However, if your hair is actually damaged to the point of extreme breakage, neither is magical and neither will halt breakage. The best thing I’ve done for my bleached hair to try to grow it out is simply not washing it every day. I try to wash every 5 days and I incorporate k18 and I redkens acidic bonding concentrate line which is also way better than olaplex. Also, for anyone reading - my hair in general was doing ok despite breakage until I used aphogee 2 step. This made my hair come off in chunks and it never recovered. Stay far away from aphogee! I also was not using any protein treatments prior. A stylist told me to stop using olaplex because it has a lot of protein too. Does it actually? Idk. But I settled on only redkens acidic bonding concentrate line and k18 and hardly washing my hair until it grows out 🥲 Just my two cents

I’ve used both K18 and Olaplex and K18 is the first product I put in my hair (fine 3B and 3C) where I noticed the difference the instant I used it. My curls looked better than they had in a long time. It’s worth the money to me to use it

It's been amazing on my hair!! It transformed my damaged hair after the 1st use I was blown away because I can honestly say my hair has never looked this good before! It looks so healthy now. I've used olaplex in the past and it was nice but to me it doesn't compare to the results K18 has given me. It doesn't dry my hair out it always feels so soft but I still go in with a leave in conditioner I usually use the olaplex bond smoother no6 as my leave in and it works beautifully 💜💜💜

Been using this for about 5 months.... I even did it then put an olaplex 2 on after the 4 minutes.... my hair was way too soft after that and wouldn’t hold a curl at all 😂 I’m naturally fine texture and wavy now my hair is longer but have a 2curl when it’s at shoulder length with grown out baby lights and balayage. My hair definitely feels stronger with less breakage, but won’t hold tonged curls anymore, they just fall out whereas before they would stay for days until my next wash.

My hair is curly (3a/3b) and when I started using this product my hair became dry feeling. In the directions, it says not to use a conditioner with the treatment so after I applied and waited 4 min I put on some leave in HOWEVER my hair still felt dry. My hair is colored right now so I started using Olaplex bonding oil and that really helped. My hair has never felt this soft and been this full.

I still feel like people don’t get what it’s actually doing😅 it won’t be as conditioning as a classic hair mask. It’s repairing the inside of the hair. If you don’t have broken bonds/damaged hair then you won’t notice any results. I think k18 it’s a good way to maintain the quality of the hair if you’re trying to grow it out for example!

If you are a curly girl , after letting the K18 sit for the 4 minutes you can rhen use a deep conditioner that is also a leavein. I know of two curlsmith has one their multy tasking conditioner and amazing curls also has one called all in one treatment. Their both good but the curlsmith one does have a bit of proteine in it the amazing curls one has no proteine as far as I know.

My 2c hair hated K18, took a couple of weeks of intense moisture treatments to get it back to were it was before K18. I also don't like the Olaplex treatment either. Maybe my real undamaged hair is coarse and dry, lol, because that is how these treatments make it feel.

I fell into that trap... my hair is currently virgin and it's just coarse in texture so can easily feel dry. Years ago I was a platinum blonde so was all on the bind builder protein treatments, olaplex etc. You name I used it for my blonde as I figured that's why it was looking so nice. But after I grew out my natural hair and kept its color and it truly was healthier I should've let most of those treatments go. Sure a protein treatment and moisture... but the rest is truly unnecessary for me at this point. I think it's the "it can always be better" thinking and just breaking the cycle.
@cfoster68042 жыл бұрын

I have natural level 4 curly hair (3A) and have bleaching it to platinum for fashion colors which stretched my hair out a lot to the point where people were calling it wavy. Using K18 has made my hair consistently 2C-3A (not back to my original texture but pretty close!) To be FAIRRRR I think I was weighing my hair down with conditioning products before, and with K18 I am clarifying my hair twice with the Kinky curly come clean shampoo, adding K18 and waiting like 10 minutes, then I add olaplex No. 7, LA styles gel, and diffuse. So I am not using any other leave in creams and I think a lot of my hair bouncing back up is partially due to that. I am very pleased with the product overall though, and in some way I am not spending thaaaaaat much more money in the long term because I am cutting out leave in conditioners and also not using nearly as much in shower conditioning masks.

I used the K18 after getting a organic hair straightening treatment in May. It actually pretty much removed the straightening. My hair was not as curly as before, but a looser wave, which I actually like. It wasn’t my intention to remove the straightening, just to strengthen my hair, but I would say their claims are accurate!

What do you recommend for curly, fine, highlighted hair: Curlsmith bonding rehab, Olaplex, or k18?
@johnnvogt2 жыл бұрын
K18. It’s the only product of the bunch that goes the deepest into the hair strand. So you’ll get the best benefit from it and if you get it and don’t FEEL a difference just know it’s still working on the inside. Most people feel a major difference in their hair after using it but there has been a few people who don’t feel a difference and that’s okay, it’s not a pass if that’s the case so don’t worry.
