these game engines weren't very good
play my Roblox game www.roblox.com/games/15418671...
I didn't watch any tutorials for these engines which probably made the experience even worse. I'd be keen to try roblox again and actually get a script working, let me know if you would be interested

Roblox actually isn't that bad, it just takes time to learn. Like some of the games made on Roblox look like they should not even be on Roblox. Some look super realistic and crazy that could pass as games that were uploaded on something like steam. But yeah, it takes a good amount of time to learn, but once you get the hang of it, it is a pretty good game engine, especially for beginners who are getting into game developing that want to get in the more complex stuff.
@tobycollier
@tobycollier 6 ай бұрын
Yeah I definitely agree, it's easy enough to work out how to do something basic (like an obstacle course) which encourages you to learn more to get better at the engine. I just hate the UI tho 😭

roblox lua heavily rely on callback rather than method overriding, so it is kinda like programming in javascript (node js in specific) So to make a touch button is like "brick.Touched:Connect(function(player)print("player who hit "..player) end)" There was community dev wiki but roblox nuked it long ago, since then there is not much documentation on how callback works. Every new roblox programmer struggles on understanding it so it is normal

aint no way he put roblox in there, and also, scratch is a learning software. Roblox developing takes skill to use, you are meant to make things in modeling softwares and animate them there, or with a roblox plugin, and insert them into the game, or make your own custom animations for roblox characters, you are meant to do complex scripting aswell. Toolbox is usermade models and most have viruses. If anything, you trying to dev was just a huge skill issue. And this isnt biased, I've tried before and am now decent at it, being part of a studio that has made a game called "Find the kirbos" which has gotten a million visits, now called FTK legacy. It just takes massive amounts of skill, (Which I Dont have) Take a look at some of the front page games, but no simulators unless its pet simulator 99

Hey thank you for your comment, I definitely agree with you and I do think Roblox is a solid engine. The main metric I was rating these off of was how easy they are to pick up and explore. Without using any tutorials it's a daunting engine. With that being said my real problems with the engine are the actual Roblox community and moderation systems which are what threw me off even wanting to learn the engine in depth. I did try to highlight the idea that these engines can be really good if you do know how to use them but yeah, it really was a skill issue and I wasn't trying show anything but that

@@tobycollier The way you represented roblox is pretty infuriating though. You can't use an engine without learning it at all. Not even checking what language it uses. It honestly felt like you just put roblox in there to throw shade.
@tobycollier
@tobycollier 6 ай бұрын
I dunno if that's true if you look at an engine like scratch and the fact that I was able to make anything without looking at a single tutorial puts it up there as a solid engine that I might come back to. I will admit tho that yes initially I did just put it in because I believe Roblox isn't a great company but I did actually enjoy my time in the engine which I definitely should've conveyed better
