The experiment was not performed correctly. Door handles don't harbour much bacteria because it's not a good environment for growth. They left the plates at 26 degrees for 5 days which, combined with the poor swabbing choice, has only grown satellite colonies. If she wants to do it properly, I would suggest she swabs a part of the human body, preferably a clammy area like armpit or feet. Then grow it at 37 degrees for no more than 2 days. She needs to grow the plates agar facing down to prevent condensation and contamination that she saw. Source: phd in microbiology.

Came to say this. IMO if I spilled a pot of dirt on my floor I wouldn’t immediately grab the roomba. I’d sweep first then roomba the tiny bits.
@clueless_cutie3 ай бұрын
Yeah the hobot is intended for the slow build up of car exhaust, pollen, and rain run off with the occasional bird poo splat. Though depending on the size and diets of the birds in your area... could end up just as smeared and gross as a roomba hitting a fresh gift from a chihuahua. Results will vary. There's also definitely a poor hobot out there that has been bombed by a bird poo... But almost anyone with windows that are exposed to gradual grime build up would benefit from giving the exteriors of the windows a good scrub down every now and then. Since most people don't clean the outside of their windows and have probably not realized just how much small particulate dirt has accumulated on the glass. Clean both sides and you might feel like your home is suddenly brighter. I know this is especially true for any of my windows that face the road

I work in research and do cell culture so things need to be sterile. The hoods we work in do use UV light but they are strong (could give you a sun burn) and it can kill contaminates. But we leave the light on for 10-15 minute. So a normal purple light probably won't do anything. The results where mostly from the water is what I'm thinking

I also worry if they did the culturing process correctly. In my experience, door handles used by a lot of people should have far more growth on them when incubated properly. Also, their thought process for testing was sound, but I'm not sure the execution methods were done correctly. It would be nice to see this experiment replicated by someone with more culturing experience using the same exact device to see if their results change.

For me the thing about the "blue light" uv cleaning/disinfecting products is that I work in a high school lab-- we have a uv disinfecting chamber for the goggles the students use. It's not aesthetic. It's heavy duty metal with no windows and so so many warnings about not to look at the light inside once turned on because it could do permanent damage to your eyes. The goggles need to be left in the chamber for at minimum five minutes of continuous harsh uv light to be disinfected properly. So any time I see a "uv disinfecting" product with big windows or just out in the open flashlight style I immediately think oh well that's just a blue party light and even if it was actual uv with how quickly they just breeze the light over things, it isn't disinfecting anything.

We have something similar in dentistry (it’s an ultrasonic cleaner). We put our bloody and dirty instruments in it when it’s filled with a surfactant and water. It creates basically bubbles that “implode” to break up the solid waste on the instruments before they are rinsed and put in the sterilizer. They little Bluetooth speaker looking thing looks like it’s creating some misty nonsense
@Hyperlophus3 ай бұрын
Looking at it and how it appeared when working, my first thought was that it was just a portable ultrasonic cleaner. Tbh the mini washer is so convenient! I use it to wash rags, delicates, and cloth pads . It washes really well and does a better job than the big washer with this smaller tasks :) Overall it’s good for if you don’t wanna waste a whole wash on only a few things. The only thing Is when using the semi-dehydrator you have to keep the lid off/open + do not fill the dryer basket too much or it WILL fly off

1. love the legitimate experiments in this video! 2. I just assumed the bluetooth speaker looking vegetable cleaner worked through gentle agitation. I didn't expect electrolysis 😂😂

Honestly, as a college student who lives in the dorms and has to pay to wash clothes, the collapsible washer+dryer seems so nice for a dorm. I could wash my clothes that I had worn that day after sweating/ making them dirty and have them washed and clean by the next day. I love the idea of that. And easy to store as well! Kinda want to get one

That’s actually a good idea! Another good plan is a collapsible dishwasher when you live in a house with no dishwasher. I HATE doing dishes and I wish I had one of those in my house

Environmental scientist here! You should have had your control to be a single Qtip rubbed in the dish to confirm the amount of bacteria they already have.

I really like how you treated the subject! Lab grade experiments are always a hit with me though. However I have to mention that UV light exposure (at this distance and duration) isn't enough to desinfect anything + actual UV light it can do serious damage (like making someone blind, burning skin pretty bad...). When we use it in the lab, we always use specific glasses and protection screen

Electrolyzed water is a broad-spectrum bactericidal and viricidal agent. But in order for it to work properly you need to add salt to the water. I don't think this little thing is doing much. Sof used tap water so there's minerals in the water that will build up on the plates over time reducing the amount of sanitization slowly until it breaks.

I’m glad to see you try that mini washing machine! I have a washing machine, but there are items I’m reluctant to put in it, even on the delicate cycle in a bag. I could see using something like this as an alternative to handwashing these items.

I live in South Korea, and even the Koreans are saying that the quality of Chinese products are getting so much better. Before they were cheaply made and quickly shipped out. Now I have a Chinese hairdryer, dehumidifier and more. They are cheaper than what is sold in Korea, and really good quality.
