I have heard the same, although I have grown sunflowers in other locations with tomatoes and other veggies with zero problems 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d be happy with that raspberry growth for year 1. But you might be right about that one being a dud. Although, the neighbouring plants will quickly fill in the space in the coming years so no pressure to replace it if you choose Nice one! 👍

If you have a lot of filler at the bottom of the bed, that could be the problem. I have done it successfully and then after a couple years it impeded the soil and water from doing the plants any good. I guess too much air was trapped. The roots seemed to suffer, not the tops so much. But they just didn’t grow. Idk. Good luck! Your garden is so beautiful.

I believe it’s the weather. We’ve had 10” of rain in 2 weeks in WI. Plants are looking pale and sick and need sun and warmth. Bottom leaves of potatoes are turning yellow and peppers are also sick looking. Some of these new variety snapdragons look the same as yours. I’m sure you’ve had plenty of rain and your garden looks like you have shady spots. Lol, I just heard you say you had a lot of rain yesterday 😅. I got dried blood meal for nitrogen as I didn’t want to use liquid fish emulsion because of all the rain. It works slower, but at least it’s there. Somewhere I recently read about sunflowers give off something other plants may not like and that could be the issue also. I need to look that up. I thought you had netting for brassicas. I have to net because those cabbage moth worms are difficult to remove especially on Brussels.

I got that same trellis from Menards (I'm in Iowa) and I love it. It's good quality for the price. This year it has sweet peas on it. (The flower, not the food).🌿💚

Those are cabbage worms I believe. BT will take very good care of them. Perhaps your soil may be low in iron and thus the chlorosis on the leaves of your plants. Either add iron tone or a soil test will tell you the specifics.

The same thing is happening with 2 of my beds. I had a soil delivery last year and I think the soil I got wasn't good. I've been trying to figure out how to fix it since last year. I'm gonna keep trying to fix it before I get rid of all of the soil in those beds and start over. 2 whole unproductive beds!

I am 60+ miles south of you and I can’t grow brassicas either. Your garden is so beautiful. I’d replace the one raspberry plants. Leave the one not growing in. It might take off later. If not it will compose.

We planted bare root raspberry & blackberries from Costco. There are just 4 sticks in the ground with no leaves, the rabbits ate all the foliage so they're probably not going to grow. Dang rabbits, we didn't get a chance to protect them. All other veggies and cut flowers are in raised beds luckily.

Love that trellis! We don't have a Menards or I would be running out today to get one. Your garden looks so beautiful and your tomatillo look like big ground cherries. I think they are in the same family. I took down my insect hoop this year and so far my brassicas are ok but time will tell. Pick that worm off YUCK. LOL:)

Those “things “ will decimate your brassicas, I got them bad every year . I think 🤔 it’s from a moth that lays eggs and then you get this little worms and they are ferocious. I ordered hoops and netting online and this year it should be so much better and I’m hoping to get kale , broccoli and cabbage ( my favorite vegetables ) , so far so good , fingers crossed 🤞. Love 💕 your garden , you worked hard to get it to this point

It looks like maybe your bed is iron defficient. The yellow cast on your plants is usually a telltale sign. I hope it gets better. 😉

I heard the same thing. What’s weird is I’ve grown sunflowers next to other foods a couple times and didn’t notice any troubles. It might be specific plants that have more of an issue than others.

Same as Amy, I have grown sunflowers here and there and I haven't seen anything not thrive around it. Last year everything I planted on this bed struggled.. brand "new" soil too.
