@@Gotcha.dolla-ud3bh I think Dazai just wants someone to understand him and his character: motives, feelings, mind, thoughts etc. He feels different fro the rest because of his sharp mind, and he believes because Ranpo is in a similar situation (or at least has been) that the other understands him. However, Ranpo does not share this understanding of one-another. I theorize Ranpo refuses to understand Dazai because he found Dazai's nature inhumane. Of course, this is set just after Dazai joined the agency and by default right after Ranpo found out who Dazai really is- or was. Ranpo had definitely been suspicious of Dazai. We see this when Fukuzawa ordered Kunikida to kill Dazai if Dazai did anything suspicious in the entrance exam. No doubt Fukuzawa and Ranpo have talked about their newest member, so there's a high chance Ranpo himself was the one to suggest to Fukuzawa Dazai's a threat. Ranpo just wants the agency to be safe, and when the former Demon Prodigy comes knocking on their front door and Ranpo is unable to fully grasp the man's thoughts, then there is no reason to understand or trust him.

Maybe the conversation is about how both are aware of the dark nature of humanity, "we both see what we dont want to see". Maybe he wanted to connect over that aspect. He might have described Ranpo as "clear" because everything is clear to him?? Or maybe because he hasn't been affected by this nature, unlike Dazai and his time in the mafia the place where the darkest part of humanity comes out. I dont know who said "You already know" but if going by this thinking, then Ranpo already knew about Dazai and Dazai felt rejected from the connection he was trying to make.

This is exactly how I imagined their relationship to be after Dazai joined the agency, and I'm glad other people share the same theory as me. This was a really nice video! The car sounds in the background really give a nice feeling when watching this! The designs are also so well-made. I love the parts with the case files and gvn popping up.
