I think we found WHAT BROKE ?! 300k mile Common Rail Cummins Non CDL Hotshot Truck

I remove the inspection covers on the bell housing to find out what is broken on our 2003 5.9 Cummins 24 Valve common rail.

I used to remove the bolts in the bell housing and replace with longer bolts so the transmission can just slide back far enough to remove the flex plate,the rear trans mount has to be removed to tilt the transmission down to get it to slide to the rear to get it out

Inexpensive inspection camera from someplace like Harbor Freight may be needed to see the center bolts.

110% mine went almost without warning went 6 months of a random thud and stupid annoying vibration with even 4k behind the truck did ujoints breaks carrier bearing till one day going from red light not even half throttle just free revved then wouldn't start ended up doing a billet and she is so much more peppy and firm shifts no vibrations and I only have 246k 06 5.9

It turned out not to be a flexplate issue on this specific truck. Only found that out after removing the transmission (whoops!) A bad thrust bearing on the crankshaft was the culprit. Thanks for posting your experience though, great info! God bless

I didn’t see the last vid, but have you checked the rest of the drive line? I know if your carrier bearing is worn out or if the mount is bad you’ll get vibrating when you get on it while under load

Great suggestion, but it was in fact a bad thrust bearing in the engine. I installed a new one in my last vid and it fixed the knock. I do wonder if it was caused by driveline vibrations though.. the truck had a badly worn carrier bearing when I got it, I replaced with a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft but perhaps the damage had already been done...
