On boats of her age (we also have a V42) mild steel was often used in glass over areas of high load, engine stringers, mast supports, even tankage support. We are just planning Agape's next little Refit (a cosmetic one)after 8 years of owning the girl it is time. Hang in there guys, we love watching the work and I am sure you will love the finished product. Keep up the smiles!!!!

Murphy's law. I once planned a trip, that would take me from the east coast of the United States, clear across the United States, to Soul Korea, then a few hours layover and then on to Manilla. I arranged the flight in August, for the following January. Almost 5-1/2 months ahead. The weather had been absolutely wonderful, mild, and calm. Hurricane season was moot. Several days before my flight the weather forecast was calling for winter weather. As the days wore on, I decided to make a reservation at a hotel in Norfolk, VA, where I was catching the flight out, just in case the weather turned really nasty, I wouldn't have to drive for almost 3 hours to get to the airport, I'd just be 10 minutes away. As I arrived at the hotel, it was starting to flurry snow. The next morning, I awoke and was surprised to see that only 3" or 4" of snow had fallen, on the day of my flight, reserved for over 5 months. I eagerly made it to the airport to check in, but all the flights were canceled!! On My Day!! It was only a few inches of snow. The reservation ladies at check in started searching for flights and in about 20 minutes they found connecting flights and handed me everything I needed and looking pretty smug, because they told me, it was the last seat on the connecting flight to Manilla from Korea ... only problem was, they were all flights for the following day! I quickly drove back to the hotel, and asked desk clerk to just put me back in the same room, my flight was canceled, I'll be spending another night. The next morning, my car was frozen solid into the parking lot ice slush that had literally frozen my wheels to the pavement in frozen mountains of ice. My car would not move, it was like the parking brake was set. Instead of a "Snow Shovel", the hotel had a flat blade coal shovel at the front door. I used that to literally chip my ice encrusted wheels free and remove the 2-foot ice barrier at the bac of my car, which was preventing me from backing out. Eventually I go out and got to the airport just in time to catch my flight to Manilla... what a struggle. The weather, picks on everybody. No one is immune.

Your candour and ability to overcome any circumstances, in my humble opinion, are traits that are admirable. Looks like you've won over another subscriber! Hello from St.Louis Missouri USA. Looking forward to your next video. Meanwhile, I way well poke around at your past videos to bring myself up to speed. Thanks Again for bringing us alongside!

I loved this!! I will agree with the doubters, put only to a point, Adam, Aladino, Matt, Peter and like minded sailors will get great satisfaction when they are finished their diverse projects to make their particular vessel better than the original builders. They will have intimate knowledge of their vessel that can not be obtained in any other way. I to have had to do a rebuild--not of a boat, a holiday trailer, less than 20years old, improperly sealed at the factory allowing the roof to leak into the wall. After 20myears had to replace floor, wall, roof joists, floor decking, wall paneling, roof and ceiling paneling. Just because it is built this decade does not mean it was built good. I look forward to seeing all the care that all re-builders put into their work, and would rather encourage them than tare them apart, very well done Adam and Khiara, "Milly" will be one awesome vessel when you are finished.

To be fair finding the cracks in the bow roller and chainplate is a bummer, but if it had snapped at sea - could have lost the mast. Similarly digging out all of that rotten wood is much better finding out now than later, especially if near to icebergs! Good luck getting it all done. Careful with epoxy on your skin too guys! I'm sure Millie will repay you in full for all the hard work you've put into her again!

I've noticed that you two along with several other KZbin sailing adventurers are doing major upgrades or just needed repairs that even if they start small, grow into huge projects, to the point where some of you seem to be building a nearly new boat. Not that that's a bad thing, but it does seem to be a never ending story. It reminds me of when I was a teenager and I purchased my first used car. It was in fact, an old crappy car that was falling apart. But I worked on it and worked on it until I turned it into the dream hot rod I wanted, (sort of). I love your drive and constant smiles. Two of the things that makes me love your show so much. Stay groovy and stay safe.
@SailingMillennialFalcon
@SailingMillennialFalcon 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about your comment and perhaps the reason for a lot of channels doing upgrades is that we're all similar ages, not retired or can afford to buy a newer, well maintained boat straight off the bat. So we're all having to do them up slowly in order to achieve our ultimate goals. Pretty much exactly what you did with your car. Its nice to hear that we're not the only ones refitting boats!

That bow plate could, in a blow and a chop, have cost a rigg and some scratches on deck plus in the one side the rigg's rest would finally have decided to go under ..... depending on what amount of "choppy", it could have cost a couple perforations in the hull, too. Don't ask why I would know. The engine base though .... three more layers of heavy duty biaxial and a litre or two of foamy injecting resin sucked in by vacuum after that in two or three steps would have spared a whole lot of mess and destruction. Extreme grinder-sanding through clothing, skin and flesh is a sport beneath boatbuilders by the way. Welcome to the trade!

Awesome work you two! Good call on getting rid of the teak decks (and all the screws that poke through the deck to hold it down). Anything worth doing is difficult and is worth doing well.
