what i did notice was that despite the distance control, the dispersion of your chips was very narrow, and as you mentioned, the accuracy. so once you get used to the weight of it and get a handle of the speed, it looks a lot closer to great than gimmick
@jonny555ive3 жыл бұрын
Was thinking the same thing 👍👍
@besticandogolf59013 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That dispersion was fantastic. AND, with those super thin lies on the fringe it got up in the air quick and stopped on a dime. That’s pretty stinking intriguing.

Rick hits the nail on the head at 6:11. Many of us are delighted to get the ball on the green, that is especially true of sand for me, but everyone I play with struggles with chipping/pitching and of course putting. Which all need practice to gauge weight/distance. But fewer chunks, blades and hacks would never be a bad thing. Cam

I’ve been practicing my pitching and chipping. It’s made a huge difference in my game. It also taught me how to properly aim the face of the club, and how to get better ball strikes. Now my iron play is significantly improved because of it. Went to the range yesterday and all my irons were laser beam straight flight. 95% of my shots were off line by maybe 5 yards at the very most. I was aiming for the yard marker sticks and had quite a few hit them. They give off a satisfying ping sound since they are made of steel.

It makes sense the height and less rollout though eh? Isn't that one of the selling points of a hybrid vs a long iron for example, it's easier to get the ball into the air because of the head design? It looks to me like this could work well for a downhill put that you have to fly a fair way, lol honestly the ones that didn't roll out the way you wanted, maybe a downhill chip one where you kind of either have to hit the hole or it's rolling past, this could stop it closer? I don't know, could be interesting!

coming from me not a good short game person because i don't practice enough, last year, I would never buy this. I started to just go to what felt right and improve on that this year and I have 100% confidence now that I will not leave my chip short and that I will strike it well! Now I just need to perfect distance control, but I have shaved just from that about 2-3 strokes an 18 off my score!! So what I say is just focus on one thing not clubs, but ball contact. LOVE YOU RICK!!!!

I LOVE THE PRODUCT TESTING CONTENT BRO JUST AWSOME 😀😀😆😆
@neilsmith95403 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick ! Really liking all these test and reviews you do on all the clubs. My youngest lad Theo who's eight would really like you to do a test and review on junior clubs as he really wants a new set. Another question he would like answering is why do all these junior sets come with roughly only four clubs in the bag. Then you can't find additional clubs to add to the bag. Why is it you can not get a full set of junior clubs. Really hope this is something you can do in a video looking forwards to seeing it. thanks Neil & Theo.
@jonathanmickle75592 жыл бұрын
Juniors don't typically generate enough club head speed to have normal 8-12 yard gaps between clubs that are 4 degrees or less apart like most adults get with iron sets that are 3-4 degrees apart. Only by making Junior clubs with gaps of 8 degrees or so (2 clubs apart), are juniors able to get the sort of gap progressions that adults get. Ping Prodi G irons are available for juniors from 5 iron through Sand Wedge, but most parents don't want to shell out $80 per club or more for irons that have 3-4 yard gaps, and most kids don't want to carry so many clubs. The missing odd or even irons can be added when juniors start gaining club head speed, but it often turns out that it makes more sense at that point to move them to adult sets anyway. By ages 12-13, most girls and many boys will have the strength to use adult sets with very light shafts, so I think it is somewhat rare to see really complete junior sets.

Back in the 90s there was a wedge endorsed by Gary Player called the Par Saver by Anvil Golf. It looked almost identical to this one and then there was also a wedge called the Alien Wedge which also looked like this one so it’s not a new idea. Good video though

@johnpravato27393 жыл бұрын
How does it compare to the Cutter wedge you did a while back?
@TrippyWheelz3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s probably good for building confidence for switching over to a traditional wedge too. I could see how playing for a month with this and then going back to a wedge is good. Half of the struggle is worrying about hitting a bad shot and maybe this club could help build that confidence.
@RossLawrie3 жыл бұрын
Is the distance control something that you would figure out with play on this? As a chipper, what would be the difference with this compared to the old chippers that you used to see... They kind of looked like a hybrid too but I don't see many of them around these days.

Cleveland Smart Sole does all of this plus bunker shots. Also doesn’t look or sound totally ridiculous. Same price.

Reminds me of the 64° wedge I purchased. It's got a very big sole, like a Cleveland smart sole/Callaway sure out. Like you I found distance control isn't great, and I absolutely don't do full swings with it. I have used it for when I'm short sided and it does the job. It was only $40 us off of eBay.

I have a 60 degree wedge called a Dunlop Solution, it is like a normal wedge but has a very wide sole like this wedge and makes getting the ball in the air much easier. It is about 20 years old and I later moved on to Cleveland RTX but I found it a great club to give confidence for chips and it worked well out of bunkers. See if you get get one Rick to help your chopping game

Hey Rick, huge fan! Question that maybe you or someone with more knowledge than me could answer. Is there a difference between a 29° 6I and a 29° 7I? I know Bryson said he uses stronger lofted clubs to reduce spin but like, isn't it just the same as clubbing up?

The best chipper do have 37* take the Cleveland smart sole ( they do have also sand smart sole) . This chipper for me since I’m a terrible chipper cut 5 strokes on average per game and systematically I’m always use it inside 30 yards or so. My 50* is now Rest In Peace in the wardrobe.

@MadRS3 жыл бұрын
With a proper technique (it's super simple once you are shown) your normal clubs are basically duff proof. This technique of using less wrist and shallowing out the contact area makes it so hard to make that perfect contact of ball slightly first then turf. I'm a scratch to low handicapper and everyone I have taught to chip improves remarkably with just 1 hour.

The 1st shot you picked probably wasn't a 56 degree club shot. You need something to gets it on the ground/rolling earlier. You should picked shots to fly it 50% of the way to the edge of green.

I'd never use this, because I'm actually decent at chipping and bunker shots, but why does this create so much spin? I honestly think this club helps people who are struggling with their chipping.

This club isn't for me, but the video gave me an idea. I have a Mizuno CLK rescue/hybrid that I literally can't hit a good shot with. I think I'm going to cut down the shaft to about wedge or putter length and try it as a chipper around the greens. I'm fine chipping from just off the fringe with my wedge, but I rarely make any and occasionally hit a real stinker. I can hit good shots with my 3 or 5 wood, but the shaft is too long to hit them comfortably and any sort of an awkward lie is a no-go. I could never master speed when chipping with a 7 iron and again the longer shaft causes me problems. These huge head wedges always end up with me randomly skulling one 50 yards past the green when I was only 20 yards off, so I refuse to use them anymore. Hopefully a cut-down hybrid will be the ideal club for me.
@Viz643 жыл бұрын
I can understand this may be useful to some, however what will those people use to get out of bunkers if this can't be used in them? You will still need to take a 56/58° wedge to get out of the sand. Spend the money on getting lessons instead and maybe use a 7, 8 or 9 for the chips around the green
