I don't know if he was supposed to be her dad or stepdad or whatever, but no matter how much of a monster Tonya Harding's mother was, stay. Don't go. Tolerate it because (wow) you have a daughter/step-daughter who simply worships you. I mean he made her a Fur Coat for his daughter out of real rabbit fur. Of COURSE Tonya loved this guy. Maybe if he had just stayed (even slept on the couch in the livingroom after his 12 hour night shift) Tonya would have been sane and made better choices? She needed a dad and maybe he was just step dad, or maybe he was dad, but if this scene is accurate, he is a much better dad than a lot of dads.

@@paulcolburn3855 right. i honestly feel like it was good for him to leave tonya because it made her more independent and not that she wouldn’t have been a good skater if he stayed but it could have made her even more ambitious to do something for herself. sometimes people need to be abandoned to see the light in themselves and that probably propelled tonya into being such an amazing skater and independent person who didn’t take shi from no one.

its because the girl's coat is a normal, manufactured, probably fake fur coat. tonya's is a patchwork of animal skins that's homemade. the girl is just snarking because it's clearly not a normal coat.

@@jeffgoesrandom4217 One of those geniuses was Margot Robbie herself, as a producer as well as the lead actress. And yes, playing Tonya as early as her teenage years, plus using a script that integrates narration, multiple interview-type segments, and, in a nice touch, a few fourth wall breaks. I loved I Tonya when I first saw it. Agree to disagree.

@@jeffgoesrandom4217 I'm gonna take a wild guess, Margot Robbie isn't the first person over the age of 18 to play a teenager. Especially in a movie based on real events that take place over a number of years, into (big shock) adulthood. And I mentioned the movie probably wasn't a major studio production. The necessity to find an third actress to play Tonya at a specific age wasn't deemed a necessity, or at worst, didn't fit into a small budget. And that's without knowing any specifics. I'm gonna correct myself a bit- adult actors play teenagers all the time primarily due to child labor laws. Especially the laws placing restrictions on hours worked.
