It wasn't part of my original plan, and honestly, up until a few days ago, I had never even heard of Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. My original plan was to take the popular tourist route from Split to Dubrovnik which is a beautiful city where Game of Thrones was mostly filmed. But when I had heard that in order to go there, you would have to stamp your passport out of Croatia and into Bosnia on the way to Dubrovnik, I was suddenly intrigued and wanted to learn more. Here is my journey from Split, Croatia to the capital city of Sarajevo, Bosnia.

21:12 Guy seriously say Croatian did supply Serbs with weaponry? The Serbs did take most of the weapons of former Yugoslav army so they had way too much weapons, most overkill on armaments and ammo. Croatian managed to capture some weapons from Yugoslav army but had not closely enough like Serbs. There was also international embargo for weapons against Croatia but they managed to smuggle some weapons despite embargo. But they never provided weapons to the Serbs and they also did not had need for wepaons since they had a lot of it. Only thing in some cases Croatian did sold oil to Serbs (Serbs actually used this oil for their armour to attack Srebrenica after)

So glad you went to Sarajevo, in spite of the cash/cell phone issue. I went there in '98 and there were no ATMs, no Uber, no Air B&B, and when you paid cash the "change" was gum and trinkets. SFOR was all over the place then. I stayed with a Bosnian family and there was no running water; it was stored in bottles. And war damage everywhere and signs said "beware of mines". But it's a great city/country that endured in the '90s what Ukraine is now. 21:00 This guy got it wrong. Croatia did not supply arms to the Bosnian Serbs...that would be like Poland supplying Russia with arms in Ukraine.

well, if all the people of Yugoslavia had the right to self-determination, the Serbs had the same right too. I don't support any warfare or crimes, but i don't see why the Serbs in Croatia and Bosnia or the Croats in Bosnia should feel ok waking up in the country they were born and lived and suddenly be a minority, just like that. That guy should stop victimizing only his side. Terrible things happened from everyone against everyone. Now, the ended up hating each other while their corrupted governments get richer and richer... pity.

Most of the atrocities were committed by Serbs. Your argument can be used in every war: all sides were bad in WW2 and now Ukraine. Those who didn't see it was mostly the Germans and now the Russians choose not to see it.
@saas-lk2oe
@saas-lk2oe 2 жыл бұрын
@Cal you are misinterpreting my comment. All i said that its wrong to blame only one side. If you want to only blame the Serbs, fine, do it. But things are not that simple. After all, it was the Bosniaks who started the killings, at that Serbian wedding in 1992. The fact that Bosnia was divided in all ethnic groups, widespread, was one more reason to find a peaceful solution rather than promoting nationalism. It was obvious that trying to find a solution on a nationalistic basis would end up in a bloody war. And It was Alija who wrote a book about how Christians and Muslims cannot coexist, remember? I truly believe that the war in Bosnia could have been avoided, Bosnia could remain united (not just in borders but in society as well) if only you, the people of Bosnia, were smart enough not to follow blindly your nationalist leaders of that time: Milosevic & Karadzic, Tudjman, Izetbekovic. Bosnia could remain in Yugoslavia and break away after a few years, peacefully. It was inevitable to happen. But no, you HAD to play NATO's game and start killing your neighbors. I truly hope you are better off now than before, but i dont think so. The Bosnian-Croat federation is still deeply divided, the Republika Srpska still feel they are not part of Bosnia and so on. You ended up paying respect to your war criminals, hurting each other's feelings, daily. I really can't understand how you guys chose this path of destruction and that after so many years none side is ready to admit their mistakes and crimes. Just think how many innocent people would still be alive if the siege didn't happen. How many children... pity man, its a pity.

So glad you have got to BIH. Bus is the best way to get about. A fascinating country and as you are in Sarajevo, there is a very well known cevapi place in the old town. It doesn’t serve alcohol but just ask and people will let you know. As another subscriber has mentioned, Mostar is a place you must visit. It is beautiful. Other places worth a visit are Visegrad, a small town on The Drina River where the famous bridge crosses the river Drina’. Andric book was based here. Trebinje has a well preserved old town not that far from Dubrovnik. To the north, Banja Luka is a vibrant town, worth a visit and from where you could visit the north of Croatia; Vukovar has been rebuilt and easily visited by bus from the interesting town of Osijek. Wherever you go in the region you will be in very modern history, some still raw. Wherever you go, you will receive a wa4m welc9me. One final point on Split, a mini Dubrovnik is awaiting you in Trogir! You will like it. Safe travels.

But serbs and croats firstly wanted to divide Bosnia in 1 part and they attacked Bosnia together firstly,thats what first happened.
@alexlarsen6413
@alexlarsen6413 2 жыл бұрын
@@amelkamaric553 No it didn't. What actually happened is the Serbs had almost all of the weapons from the former Yugoslav army, kind of like the Russians and the Red Army after the collapse of the USSR. These Serbs first attacked Slovenia but gave it up very quickly and withdrew all of the army from Slovenia into Croatia. Then the same Serbs from Serbia with the help of the Croatian citizens of Serbian ethnicity (who due to Serbian propaganda became separatists) attacked Croatia...again, exactly what Russia is doing now in Ukraine. The Croats had an embargo on importing weapons as did all of former Yugoslav states, so the Croats were literally buying weapons on the black market, supplied mostly by the western countries. They were using those weapons to defend themselves against the Serbian invasion started to "liberate Croatian Serbs from fascist Croats". Sound familiar? This war in Croatia were Serbia was the invader had already been going on for over a year before anything even started in Bosnia. So, you see...it makes absolutely zero sense for Croats to have been arming their enemy behind the front lines. Had they done that they would not have won the war. Now, Bosnia is inhabited by Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats, and after the failed invasion of Croatia, the Bosnian Serbs helped by the Serbian army at this point retreating from Croatia started the same mess in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the Bosniaks and Croats from Bosnia being on the same side at first. There was a brief period where they turned against each other too, I don't know why, but that was resolved relatively quickly. Following this they continued defending Bosnia against the Serbs together and soon thereafter they officially invited the Croatian military into Bosnia to help them. This was 4 years after the start of the war in Croatia and 3 years after the start of the war in Bosnia, right after Srebrenica, at the point in time when the western Bosnian enclave of Bihac was about to fall into the Serbian hands in which case they would've had Srebrenica 2, only worse. Croatian military got involved and essentially saved not only territories in Bosnia inhabited by the Croats but also entire western Bosnia inhabited by Bosniaks. This in conjunction with NATO air force literally saved their behinds, after which the Croatian military claimed nothing and simply went back to Croatia. Don't listen to some Bangladeshi fanatic, spewing easily disprovable lies.

Hey Jonny I think you will find Bosnia interesting. It's like 3 nations living within one country. There are areas where everyone speaks Croatian and are Catholic areas that are Bosniak Muslim and Serbian areas like Sprska you will recognise by lots of Orthodox (like Greek and Russian) churches. The war needs some research too man it was very complicated!

And by killing people in Bosnia who weren't radical nationalists and for Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosniaks, Croats and even Serbs alike) they would have accomplished their achievement. If you'll have time visit Sevdah art house, it's a coffee bar in Bašćaršija or the old market. Order yourself their house coffee. It's called sevdah coffee or something like that. It's a Turkish coffee that comes with rahat lokum aka Turkish delights and also try their hurmašica, a traditional Bosnian treat. It's a pastry of sort, pure excellence, sweet, juicy and soft. You won't find anything like that in Croatia, well, at least not of that quality. I tend to go there whenever I visit Sarajevo.

OK you are now in the kingdom of ćevapi and burek, and as a Croat I have to sincerly admit that offer is way much better then in Croatia. So next time, in local suburb joint over totally unplanned rakija and beer with locals if you want to start an endless arguing over more rakija and beer, just say them: "I had the best ćevapi in Sarajevo 'kod Ferhatovića' or 'kod Želje' or whatever ćevapi joint." or you may try to order "burek sa sirom (stuffed with cheese)", that gonna piss them off, and then more rakija and beer. Btw, ćevapi and burek are only a street food, so try to expand your culinary experience with 'bosanski lonac' or roasted lamb. While in Sarajevo, try to drop to town of Visoko, it is a short day trip, and overthere ask for a local guy Semir Osmanagić, also known as Bosnian Indiana Jones, he gonna sell you story about the hidden pyramids, UFOs, alien, and stuff like that, evidences that supports his story are not so conclusive and convincing, but he is a good story teller, and tour throu tunnels and nice nature is as a matter a fact quite interesting, and of course on refreshmemt pitstop more rakija, beer, ćevapi, burek or pita. So you may decide to stay overthere to excavate the hidden pyramids. OK, maybe that is more Bald and Bankrupt type of the continent. While I mentioned Mr. Bald the must see location in Bosnia is Titov bunker in Konjic, a cold war relic that exceedes anything seen in the Soviet Union, frozen in time as a time capsule of Yugoslav commie past, feel of '70ies still lives overthere, full setup, and ready for operative use, and above all that facility is monumental and still in excellent condition, and as that it survived the '90ies war. Spoiler alert for Mr. Bald, the Konjic bunker is not the most monumental of bunkers in the area, there is even bigger one, even the bunker that fits the complete air force base within. And those mentioned monumental bunkers are not the complete offer of abandoned monumental bunkers of that era. Albanian bunkers are places buit by amateurs and child toys compared to Yugoslav stuff in available in Croatia and BiH.
