Back in the day, when the ARAH Joes first came out, they would add more army builders with each box of figures as they knew this was a huge selling point for kids. Now, Hasbro overproduces characters like Zarana and makes the army builders exclusive to either Pulse or Target. If Hasbro had put more effort into army builders and less plastic into Eternals figures they would have been hailed as progressive and understanding of the market. Watching these videos, I see how Hasbro has no idea of their target market or simply don't care.

The problem with most of these toys, there is no thought and love that goes into them. Cheap printed mass produced plastic. Not like the old days. You can find well made licensed toys from hobby sites with 30 or more articulation movements. They are usually a bit more expensive. It is a shame Disney ruins their IP brand with mass cheap crap with no details to them. The stories behind these characters are as bland as chicken that was boiled with no added seasoning. The board of Disney needs to vacate and give the company to someone that truly loves the company. Maybe one day again.
@ChapMeifan
@ChapMeifan 7 ай бұрын
It's true. In the old days they made toys with the thought that kids would play with them, broaden their imaginations and world build. Toy soldiers used to be amazing as a kid could amass huge armies and play for hours without bankrupting his parents. Action figures were either licensed or unlicensed and sometimes the knockoff products were more fun than the originals. Now, with Disney and Hasbro controlling everything there are no knock-off products, no way to army build without serious financial investment and the toys themselves are now just empty, vapid likenesses of movie stars who hate the audience. You watch videos of the current toymakers at Hasbro and they are woke, soulless beings who have no idea why the original toys meant as much as they did to that generation. No wonder kids would rather play video games.
@StreetPreacherr
@StreetPreacherr 7 ай бұрын
And is it the same problem with everything, where there's just TOO MUCH of it? Like back in the 80s there were probably FAR FEWER 'mainstream' toy lines, while today they make entire toy lines for every minor kids character in existence! I can't even IMAGINE the crowd they'd need to sell through all of that stuff, when they probably at most have the odd grandmother wandering in trying to decide on ONE item for their grandkid next time they visit.

It’s too late. These Ollie’s video amazes me. In Canada, we don’t have Ollie’s. I don’t get to see the massive pile of Disney product like this. All I see is the complete disappearance of Disney brand toys from Walmart & Toy R Us here. There used to be complete sections for all this stuff. Now you are lucky to see 4 shelf of Disney toys. There are products in these videos that I have never seen any of the stores here. They simply never made it on the shelf here before the shelf space disappeared.

To be fair, these toys wern't a complete waste. If not for them, we wouldn't have this video which ironically brought me more joy than anything modern disney has produced. So good job disney, your unsold garbage made my day.

On the positive side, there are those that buy these toys in bulk and then modify them for people to have during the holiday season. With some talented toy makers, many of these toys have potential to be enjoyable! If you guys play any table-top games with your friends; the possibilities for terrain are endless! Edited for spelling.

They took these series away from boys and tried to force it on girls who weren't interested. They more or less tried to rewire how kids pick their toys without realizing kids are relentless and the adult collector market didn't care.

Bob Iger bought the likes of Star Wars and Marvel cause he wanted to start making money off boy oriented franchinses, only to have them turned into failing girl brands that neither gender have any interest in. If his plan was to always drive boys away and just focusing on trying appeal to girls, then he quite frankly should never have even bothered buying either brand and just continued with the Disney Princess crap.

Well, some things I keep hearing from some people who seem like they would be in a position to know what they are talking about is that one of the reasons Disney and other companies are in trouble worse than anyone knows is increased environmental regulations. A lot of states have made it far more difficult people to dispose of plastics in landfills in general, along with generally rising dumping costs. The cost right now in most places is higher than the cost of production to dump bulk plastic. Interstate transport laws specifically around this have also make it illegal, or even more expensive, to transport this stuff across state lines for dumping purposes, and of course other nations are more savvy about allowing themselves to be used for dumps. This is a big part of why discounters like Ollies can get this stuff for pennies on the dollar, but even they are only interested in things that might some day sell out of nostalgia, so they will say invest in IPs that were popular at one time like Star Wars and Marvel in hopes they come back. Supposedly Disney has entire warehouses full of merch they made for movies for either a non-paying audience, or just flopped (worse than they claim). This is why you see so little stuff from things like "Encanto" or "Elemental" and so on as those were new IPs that just sort of flopped despite the hype and never had a paying fan base at any point, so nobody even wants to pay 5% of cost to warehouse them on a maybe. One unsung horror story of this is supposed to be the Barbie movie, which is secretly a catastrophic failure. They point to all the Barbenheimer sales an stuff for political reasons, but in reality due to an initial boost in sales of all things Barbie when they first announced the movie, Mattel being a toy company massively produced dolls and products based on all the diverse versions of Barbie and Ken. In reality, despite the vocally promoted people on the internet, most girls and women hated everything this movie was, so they didn't go rushing out to buy all these dolls, when Hasbro expected them to be a big collectors thing with everyone wanting entire sets. Given the real reception of this and how badly Mattel face planted, retailers will not allocate space for them, and even discounters are simply not interested in this version of Barbie, they will take Barbie, but not anything to do with these movies or anything resembling things specifically from the movie. This is allegedly a big part of why Hasbro and Mattel want to leave the toy business, as they can sort of finagle the media stuff, but the toys tied to that, where the money used to be, is obviously risky, especially with all the pressure to play politics. Supposedly things are so bad that they made the patterns for a bunch of Barbie movie themed ornaments for Christmas, and at least this year Hallmark wouldn't touch them, which is why they have more traditional Barbie ornaments for sale in their stores (which I noticed when I visited a Hallmark store, and not even Wal Mart has anything movie themed Barbie that I could see... so unless we have an unusual case where the toy company didn't make toys, or this is all apparently true... or at least increasingly likely, as you''d expect them to be doing a blitz with the success. To be fair I have not seen any real girls with movie based Barbie products either.... which is notable after this). Just something to keep an eye on, ask yourself as the Holiday season proceeds, given it's alleged "blockbuster" and "cultural phenomena" status, where is all the movie tie in Barbie stuff? You won't even find it at Ollies and similar places as far as I can see.... I think post holiday season which they might allegedly be hoping would save them, I think Mattel is going to take a major dump in it's value as I don't think they can even take all those dolls out to the desert and dump them like the old ET story with today's laws, they will need the space to do anything else, and the bill for that disposal is going to become a reality and probably eat up any profits the movie had.
