If you buy a Porsche of any type you need to be able to afford to get it repaired. Porsche dealers love their customers because they are an endless stream of revenue. The Taycan in particular is a guaranteed money pit for them. If you can't afford a Porsche buy Chinese or Korean. Far less expensive and best of all, far more reliable, perform very well and rarely require repairs.

I wondered about this statistic so looked it up. The report was from Lloyds Bank. In their own press release they say that 30% of mortgage applicants don't have a garage or car parking space and then in their own foot notes they state that the "research" was conducted by BVA BDRC in September 2022 with 1,000 UK adults. So they have based their headline figure on the 1000 people they asked and then extrapolated that out to the whole country, rather than going by their own mortgage data. Sold figures there 😉

It wasn't long ago you could pick up 10 year old £80k+ fully spec'd cars like Merc S class, Jags, Bentleys for about £5k. even 10 year old 911's were only around £10k. The reason is they are all money pits for fools. It's a new phenomena, people expecting luxury second hand, non-classic items to retain value. I covered 566 miles on £75 of diesel (full tank). Didn't have to stop to top up and on the way back for a number of miles I wasn't hanging around either. I assume, Lee, you, and many others with EV's would struggle to achieve that. Possibly cost less, but certainly longer in time.
@moragkerr95779 ай бұрын
Any EV would struggle to match you on a journey like that. Lee's couldn't look at it, because it has a relatively short range and very poor fuel economy - it's not built to be a long distance tourer. A long-range Tesla would be the best bet, but even there, if you were prepared to pee in a layby and not rest at all, it would lose. The thing is, journeys like that are a very small part of life for most drivers. The other advantages of EVs more than make up for taking a bit longer on a long road trip.

@moragkerr95779 ай бұрын
If you can charge at home it's a no-brainer. Incredibly convenient, and costs pennies. The cars have instant torque and go like shit off a shovel. Oh and you can run your house off the battery in a power cut if you want to. Just listen to Lee when he's telling you what a great car it is. He could hardly keep up the pretence of not liking it this time.

You're in the wrong place for any kind of EV Sales advice 😂 Just be warned.. every dealer that sells high end vehicles will have staff trained in how to make you feel like an Arabian King. Especially if you spend 100k plus every 2 years. Red carpet treatment. Champagne and gifts. VIP Golf days out to sponsored competitions. If not, you're just a pleb and want you out the door.. as I found out.

@@moragkerr9577 What costs pennies,as far as I knew EV cars are dearer than petrol . One thing I definitely know us this bloke won't ever be getting one.
@moragkerr95779 ай бұрын
@@jmw-qt2ih Costs pennies TO RUN. They're over-priced to buy at the moment, although you can find a bargain if you look for one. But once you have the car, if you can charge at home, you'll be spending the backside of bugger-all on running it. You don't have to get one if you don't want one, but you should try a test drive anyway. My God, these things can GO!

@@djonfonsteen6331 Hah, yes. You can just see them kow-towing to the customer, especially a customer who is going to go on and on about the great service on his KZbin channel. I don't think I'd quite have the nerve to go in and cadge a free coffee if my humble MG4 was hooked up to one of their chargers. (Which ABRP keeps telling me I should do.)

When cars started to become popular the government didn't force anything on anyone. People bought cars because they were more fit for purpose than horses. People are not buying EVs for that reason.

I would think that cancelling someone's order and pushing them into an EV is quite close to "Bait and Switch" selling, which is illegal. Irrespective of whether you are an EV fan or not, this is not an acceptable selling practice.

This is government led, based on Net Zero targets . Look at the plans to financially punish heating firms if they don't reach installing heat pump ex-changer targets. The enforced selling of EV's is also raising the vehicle insurance market doubling the premiums to compensate for EV coverage

I was so excited to buy my new Boxster in 2001, and even more excited when I got rid of it in 2007. Absolutely unbelievable list of never ending faults.. Two, or was it perhaps 3 Rear main oil seals, wheel bearing, roof not closing properly ( plus the never correctly folding rear window). Door handle fell off, radio had a fault. Roof material chaffing and wearing. the optional extra thing between the headrests rattled.. flew off once when accelerating...

Dealers are pushing electric cars because vehicle makers that fail to achieve the ZEV mandate sales targets will be subject to fines, with a system of proposed flexibilities and credits to support those that sell a low volume of EVs. If a company misses the target, it will be made to pay the Government £15,000 for every car that doesn't comply.
