First strike isn't bugged. it deals the true damage about half a second after your attack hits, and if they died before the true damage happens, you don't get the gold because it's based on how much the true damage proc dealt instead of how much your actual attack dealt. Same reason why bone plating blocking the proc can prevent you from stealing anything early game.

Gangplank has the same problem if you one shot them with a barrel, you don't get any of the bonus gold because they aren't alive to do the extra first strike damage

First strike deals dmg after a short delay after u dmg the enemy. If u, for example, hit q on nautilus for 100 dmg, first strike would deal like 9 true dmg shortly after. It would give u 70% of the dmg dealt as money, so u get 7 gold. But since his q procs boneplating, and the first strike dmg comes after the Q hit, the 9 true dmg gets completly blocked. And since it didint deal dmg, u dont get any gold.
