Glad you’re OK but a quick tip. Here don’t drive one-handed and film with the other and actually countersteer use the cars angle to save a slide. You didn’t even try and do anything you just let the car go

Thank you! You're absolutely right! I wasn't supposed to even be in that position, hence me driving like I wasn't in that position. I'm not someone who sees a mountain road, disables DSC and goes hooning, jesus take the wheel. Had I at least looked down and noticed I'm still in 2WD, none of this would've happened, but here we are. I'm not a pro driver or a drifter or any of it. I'll be taking part in some car control lessons soon. Appreciate your comment!

Quick tip: don’t turn off traction control without putting the car in Manual Mode. Because When you’re in automatic with TC off whenever your car starts to spin the transmission will keep shifting up and it will be harder to control the car

Or don't turn off traction control and head into the mountains in cold weather on cold tires. Those who like to drift their cars and shit, more power to them, I don't sit and pretend I'm one of those people. The newer M cars have xdrive, and even if not, they have DSC and in sport mode, MDM where it will still stop a slide from happening while driving the way i was. Just don't go around a mountain road disabling DSC completely, shoving in 2wd, then just forgetting about it and being like "oh squirrel, nice rock, I want hear echo, throttle down, weeeeee" That was a dumb thing to do. Learn from a random guy on the internet's mistakes!

Perhaps you should spend some time drifting a shitbox before hopping into an M car. Apart from not being familiar with the car you were driving in terms of what you can or can't do safely, you also lacked basic counter-steering skills that would have easily saved the day, had you reacted properly. Could not see it clearly, but it seems like you were even attempting to brake.

I could not agree more. "before hopping into an M car" is a little too general, but you're absolutely right. The idea wasn't that I would be driving in the backroads with DSC off when I hopped into the M car after sundown and with cold tires. But yeah, had I done that before in a controlled environment, there is a chance to have saved it before it was too late. I've rewatched the clip a million times and I think it still snapped on me a little too hard to save, but my counter-steering input was way too low. I did try to recall whether I was actually braking, but I can't say for certain, think I was just bracing for impact at that point. It is a huge lesson learned, I can only be happy that I'm here to be able to learn it. 4wd MDM is as far as I will go on the roads, car control clinic is also in my future (I plan to make a video about it when I go). Dude I have the same black 19 M5 comp. Downpipes, intakes & JB4. This video is an opener. I customized my sport mode to DSC off and 2 wheel drive. I will be changing that immediately! Glad you’re safe and can’t imagine going through that. With temp tags, Ugh!

This is happening all over Europe people binning all different models of m// Competition cars (Especially) the X3M Competition, I feel Bmw have created I false sense of security with the 2wd/4wd option , imo bmw's with this option are fucking DANGEROUS. People are getting serious injuries because the cars are snapping out of control so easily and violently.

@@lewiscannon8213 I agree, I have been in RWD only M cars, and they handle differently as they have DSC/MDM levels which engage and won't just let you fly off. @purplejerry1 is right, it was a skill issue. I was not ever prepared to find myself in this situation and plan to educate myself and if I run into that, to know what to do. I do think that if they're gonna let people toggle it to 2wd, there should be some kind of MDM at the very least, not just fully dsc off as the only way. But it's the driver's duty to control the car, not the other way around.

I had a gopro and a camera right next to me. The idea wasn't that I would be doing anything that could even cause that. That was a low risk type of run, I just wasn't supposed to be with dsc fully off. But I agree, hands down the stupidest moment of my life. In the end they are just cars.
